Robust Asset Management with a Steep Learning Curve

|IBM Maximo Application Suite
I like IBM Maximo Application Suite for its very rich functional coverage, including work orders, preventive maintenance, inventory, and the asset register all in one platform. The configurability without code using Application Designer, automation scripts, and workflows is another standout, as it makes it easy to adapt the software without needing Java customizations. The modern, containerized architecture on OpenShift is quite appealing, especially with the availability of the wider suite, like Monitor, Health, and Predict, for further expansion when needed. I particularly value the automation scripts because they allow me to update business rules quickly, which simplifies migrations and upgrades. Additionally, the Application Designer is a crucial tool for tailoring screens to fit customer needs, and the MAS operators on OpenShift make installation and updates more standardized and repeatable.

Powerful Optimization in OPL

|IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio
I really like the capabilities of this software, and I mainly used it for my optimization models. By writing a mathematical model in OPL, I was able to solve many complex problems that would otherwise have been impossible for me to tackle. The user interface is very easy to use, especially compared with older optimization software like LINGO. I could connect my Excel file and run the optimization model on real data without any hassle. In my experience, the speed depends largely on the model itself. If you have many constraints and large datasets, CPLEX can take some time to run and return a solution. The model I worked on was a little bit complex, so I was able to get results in a few hours. Although the software is a bit pricey, it’s still one of the best tools for researchers and scientists who need to solve complex mathematical problems in an easy and efficient way. I also found the newly integrated AI feature very helpful. It assisted me in resolving some of the errors I was getting when running the model.
