"WinSCP: Secure, Versatile Protocol Support with Powerful Automation—Free & Open-Source"
What do you like best about WinSCP?

I like WinSCP because it combines strong secure protocol support with an easy-to-use interface and a solid set of advanced productivity features. It supports multiple protocols—including SFTP, SCP, FTP, WebDAV, and Amazon S3—so it’s versatile when connecting to different server environments. The intuitive graphical interface, modeled after Windows Explorer or Norton Commander, makes file navigation and transfers feel smooth for both beginners and experienced users.

I also appreciate the security features, such as SSH encryption and public key authentication, which help ensure safe file transfers even when I’m handling sensitive data. Beyond basic transfers, WinSCP includes time-saving tools like file synchronization, built-in remote editing, scripting, and automation, which are ideal for managing repetitive or complex workflows more efficiently. Another helpful touch is that transfers can run in the background while you continue navigating directories, which improves multitasking and keeps work moving.

Best of all, WinSCP offers all of these capabilities while remaining completely free and open-source, making it a reliable and cost-effective solution for secure file management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about WinSCP?

I don’t like that WinSCP can sometimes be slow when transferring large files, especially over weaker connections. It may also disconnect mid-transfer or require repeated login attempts while a transfer is in progress. On top of that, the interface feels a bit outdated, and I think it could use a refresh. What do you dislike about WinSCP?

The main drawback is that the interface appears somewhat dated when compared to more modern file-transfer tools. Additionally, performance can occasionally lag during very large file transfers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
