What do you like best about Windev?

I like the IDE and ease of use and that the most used features are available: Reports, xsl, soap, connection to various databases etc Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Windev?

I will not upgrade again because with the new licensing if you stop upgrading for what ever reason you will loose access to your code and cannot amend , compile. In short you are locked out completely.

You can download the trial versions to discover the potential. Don't be fooled by the little help available on the internet; there is a good community. We are few, but we help each other a lot.

It is truly worth it. I have been using it for over 10 years, and it is the best thing that could have happened to us within the company.

You can really make quick developments and not just invest in researching technologies that change every 2 years, and you can never recreate the value of what you have already developed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Windev solving and how is that benefiting you?

Development of business applications, mainly Point of Sale, Inventory, billing, etc.

"25+ years of upward compatibility and improvements"

What do you like best about Windev?

- Free in house DB (HFSQL) with automatic schema modification... No 'alter table' management here

- Extremely easy switch between DBs when needed. If you use correctly the internal tools, code is basically compatible with ANY DB out here.

- wlanguage available in french and english, extremely powerful, always improving, and capable of maintaining a code base for more than 25 years

- easy to use UI with tons of tools

- Code is the same for WinDev, WebDev and Windev Mobile, making it extremely easy to build applications with windows, mobile and web components, all using the same language

- Speed of development: be aware that the product is extremely rich, with very often 3 or 4 different ways of doing the same thing. This makes for a very steep learning curve, -IF- you want to really master it and get all of its benefits. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Windev?

- SCM (Source code management system, 'like' github) is buggy, slow and barely usable

- Marketing system used to sell it is sexist, gives a bad image to the tool, and makes it harder to 'sell' using it to some companies

I have been developing with it in one capacity or another for more than 25 years for all kind of domains.

WinDev is a very generic tool and has been used for almost everything...

With this tool I have been able to develop ANYTHING that my customers (or their customers) wanted, and this is an incomplete list:

- industrial applications,

- CRM

- real estate,

- game,

- replication (open source),

- EDM (open source),

- encryption,

- invoicing,

- mail management,

- import/export/massaging of data,

- password generator and evaluator,

What do you like best about Windev?

As a software developer, Windev is fast and easy to use with most common databases, Windev facilitates designing the UI with all the properties and has a user-friendly interface, the coding language itself is easy too and is similar to English and French. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Memory leaks, stability and performance issues and ORM limited. Their Hyperfile databse system is to avoid at all cost. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Windev?

The best thing about Windev is that you can make a project from scratch to end , it also has its own fast database , SCM and Project Management Tools. You can also make software products for Web, Mobile and Desktop.

There is a vast amount of user controls that gives developers a variety of options to select from when creating application pages.

The binding and unbinding data from database is just like 2 lines of code.

Some performance issues with complex controls like the MS word control. Also performance of complex mathematical expressions is bad. We had to do work around using dot net and adding the dll to the windev application. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
