I have been using it for over 10 years, and it is the best thing that could have happened to us within the company. No 'alter table' management here - Extremely easy switch between DBs when needed. If you use correctly the internal tools, code is basically compatible with ANY DB out here. - wlanguage available in french and english, extremely powerful, always improving, and capable of maintaining a code base for more than 25 years - easy to use UI with tons of tools - Code is the same for WinDev, WebDev and Windev Mobile, making it extremely easy to build applications with windows, mobile and web components, all using the same language - Speed of development: be aware that the product is extremely rich, with very often 3 or 4 different ways of doing the same thing. This makes for a very steep learning curve, -IF- you want to really master it and get all of its benefits. **What do you dislike about Windev?** - SCM (Source code management system, 'like' github) is buggy, slow and barely usable - Marketing system used to sell it is sexist, gives a bad image to the tool, and makes it harder to 'sell' using it to some companies - PCSoft still refuses to manage a public bug/correction list **What problems is Windev solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have been developing with it in one capacity or another for more than 25 years for all kind of domains. WinDev is a very generic tool and has been used for almost everything... Also performance of complex mathematical expressions is bad. You're always navigating with your mouse, clicking on things to type code into. Windev encourages binding GUI Controls directly to your database -- binding to Classes or Structures aren't supported even half as well as when you bind to a database/table. The IDE crashes constantly. With Windows 10, 32gb RAM, 500gb SSD, 5th generation i7 CPU. The IDE crashes constantly. The IDE crashes constantly. Have I mentioned that the IDE crashes constantly? There is no support for third party tools -- you can't use GitHub or BitBucket or any GIT service. You have to use Windev's own "SCM". And oh let me tell you -- actually, no -- just TRY working on a "dev" branch and a "feature" branch in parallel and you'll see how terrible it is. As an organization we have completely done away with teamwork with Windev. Their "SCM" causes too much trouble and slows down development far too much. Lastly -- PC-Soft's marketing for the application is juvenile as heck. They've toned it down recently, but man ... just look for some Windev ads from back in 2015+. They really went full-on with the "sex sells" idea. Really just makes their product look trashy. Maybe that's an accurate representation, though. Trashy. **Recommendations to others considering Windev:** Only go to Windev if you have a super-simple idea and you do not want to grow that idea into something greater. **What problems is Windev solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have create and maintain enterprise level software that allows companies to generate millions (or in some cases, billions) of dollars. Windev was chosen to be the "front-end" of the application. We are actively moving the front-end out of Windev and into React-JS. Windev will no longer be a stumbling block for our development team. The good thing of Windev is that you CAN get something SIMPLE out the door IN A HURRY. ... but the second you want it to do something more "advanced" or "involved" you'll soon be wishing you hadn't dished out that $$$ when other programming languages and frameworks and third-party tools can get the job done better, faster, and cheaper. ### 18.
