## WhereScape RED Reviews
  ### 1. Excellent Data Automation Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael L. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2024

**What do you like best about WhereScape RED?**

Ease of use creating data pipelines from traditional database sources. UI is easy to understand, anyone with SQL skills could learn how to use. Documentation of how data flows is great. Like that Wherescape takes care of primary/foreign key generation, and indexing. Customer support is quick to respond on any support tickets.

**What do you dislike about WhereScape RED?**

Not the best product at creating pipelines/integrations from API sources. We don't currently rely on Wherescape RED to pull data from REST APIs, but will start playing around with RED's host script extensibility. It does, however, require some additional configuration/customization, and is not an "out of the box" feature.

**What problems is WhereScape RED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Wherescape RED is our primary ETL tool, we also use it for a component for some of our system to system integrations that rely on flat files/SFTP.

**Official Response from Kortney Phillips:**

> Thank you for sharing your positive feedback on WhereScape RED! We're thrilled to hear that you find the tool easy to use and appreciate its documentation and support. We understand your feedback about creating pipelines from API sources and appreciate your willingness to explore the host script extensibility for this purpose. If you encounter any challenges during this process or need assistance with configuration/customization, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team.

We're here to help ensure you get the most out of WhereScape RED for all your ETL and integration needs. Thank you for choosing WhereScape!

  ### 2. Powerful template driven code generator

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luqman Kajee H. | Senior Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2024

**What do you like best about WhereScape RED?**

WhereScape RED does well in scenarios where implemented in a Raw Data Vault construct.
It does very well where scripts and structures are repeatable. I use the tool daily as part of my job function. Using the pebble templates was a steep learning curve, but once I figured that out the implementation and integration aspects became simple. When coupled with 3D it functions extremely well.

**What do you dislike about WhereScape RED?**

Red does not perform well for Business Data Vaults though, where lots of customization is required on target objects. And then becomes a standard IDE.
The customer support needs to be better equipped for enterprises, and assistance for enterprise customisation should be enhanced. Not all organisations are the same, so a team dedicated to specific platforms used in enterprise would be beneficial. The overall support would be greatly enhanced by having resources dedicated to assisting with template builds across platforms (hive for example)

**What problems is WhereScape RED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using RED to Automate our Data Warehouse build on DV2.0.
We are the team responsible for how this is implemented, so the benefit we get is automatically generated scripts for a massive organisation with a low number of developers. We would not have been able to manually build out over 5000 objects in the time we have been using the tool

**Official Response from Kortney Phillips:**

> Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We are thrilled to hear that you find the template-driven code generation powerful and beneficial for your Raw Data Vault construct. We appreciate your insights on areas for improvement, such as better support for Business Data Vaults and enhanced customization assistance.

Your success story of automating Data Warehouse builds on DV2.0 with over 5000 objects is inspiring. We value your suggestions for dedicated resources to assist with template builds across platforms. We will take your feedback into consideration to enhance our customer support and customization services for enterprises.

If you have any further suggestions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out. We are here to support you every step of the way!

  ### 3. WhereScpare Red review by Pankaj vyas (Software engineer)

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** pankaj v. | Software Engineer II, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 12, 2024

**What do you like best about WhereScape RED?**

Team can work very effectively together.
The best catalog for BI.
Auto documentation capabilities

**What do you dislike about WhereScape RED?**

It takes time to learn as there are multiple tools to look into to get appropriate solution.

**What problems is WhereScape RED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a report generation project which was designed using ETL & WhereScape Red helped us to work more effectiently and harmoniously

  ### 4. Disappointing and does not live up to the sales pitch

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2024

**What do you like best about WhereScape RED?**

I can see benefits in the template code generation, but have been constantly let down by core issues in the product

**What do you dislike about WhereScape RED?**

The entire application feels tired and neglected. There are numerous UI bugs and quirks that are not being fixed.
Application performance is subpar. Functionality like 'Trace Lineage' is very useful, but it takes multiple minutes to generate in WS Red and locks up the entire application while processing it.

There is only limited ability to mass change objects within Red (such as table column renames etc).

We are using a _supported_ DB platform that has higher than normal latency. Red runs all DB operations on the UI thread, resulting in the entire application freezing for minutes at a time. This results in a very frustrating development experience. Why would any application run DB operations on the UI thread?

There is practically no version control or support for external version control, which makes code deployments a nightmare - without version control or built in change tracking, its difficult to track changes within a development environment to promote them further, resulting in haphazard attempts to track changes by hand.

Experience with customer support has been poor. We have issues open with WS that are still 'pending development' 2 years later and there seems to be no urgency in resolving our problems.

**What problems is WhereScape RED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Generation of DV models (RV and BV) and coordination of data load processes

**Official Response from Kortney Phillips:**

> Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback on WhereScape RED. We sincerely apologize for the issues you've encountered and the disappointment you've experienced. Your honest input is invaluable to us as we strive to improve our product and services.

We recognize the challenges you've highlighted, including the UI bugs, application performance issues, and the concerns with 'Trace Lineage' functionality. Your points on the limitations regarding mass object changes, database operations on the UI thread, lack of version control, and your experience with our customer support are well-taken. We understand how these issues can significantly impact your development experience and productivity.

We are committed to addressing these concerns and have already taken several steps towards improvement such as the launch of new training courses. These courses are designed to empower our users with better knowledge and practices for using WhereScape RED effectively. We believe this will also address some of the challenges you've faced by providing deeper insights into the product's capabilities and best practices for overcoming common hurdles.

We value your business and are eager to restore your confidence in WhereScape RED. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your concerns further and explore how we can support your ongoing projects. Please feel free to reach out to us directly.

Thank you again for your feedback. It is crucial for driving our improvements and ensuring we better meet our users' needs.

  ### 5. Wherescape RED review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2024

**What do you like best about WhereScape RED?**

- Automation of tasks
- Consistency of generated code
- Including automated generation of lineage and documentation
- Maintainability of the 'code' base
- Metadata as the start of everything
- Good in metadata management and integration
- Openness of repository data model
- Plain SQL output
- Possibility of migration to new targets
- Integrated view of Warehouse development
- Support for short cyclical work (Agile BI)
- Productivity gains
- Ease of database integrations /connectors
- Version management (I like that it's there; I also think it can be simplified)
- Good customer support
- Easy install

**What do you dislike about WhereScape RED?**

- Interface is a fat client with a large dependency on Windows
- DevOps deployment support is getting better in small steps only. Still needs considerable effort
- Lineage stops at the warehouse, which also has to do with the limitations of opening up information due to license model

**What problems is WhereScape RED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automation allows us to be to do agile warehouse development, be productive and keep the data team small.
It fits the intended and envisioned architecture

**Official Response from Kortney Phillips:**

> Thank you for your detailed review! ### 6. WhereScape shortens the travel time from source to target for data our business needs for reporting.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Greg G. | SQL Database and Business Intelligence Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2024

**What do you like best about WhereScape RED?**

WhereScape puts a lot of the ETL I do in one place. I'm quickly able to take a piece of source data, transform and cleanse it, and get it into our reporting environment without a lot of effort. While it doesn't fully design the datawarehouse, it certainly makes the build and deploy processes faster.

**What do you dislike about WhereScape RED?**

The scheduler could use some work. It is robust, but there are some quirks about moving things from the dev environment to the production environment and I feel like it could be easier to get it to send out success/failure notifications.

**What problems is WhereScape RED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the only database/BI manager for the company, I have a lot of roles to fill. WhereScape helps me consolidate a lot of my design and deployment responsibilities into one place and as such, saves me a lot of time.

**Official Response from Kortney Phillips:**

> Thank you for your feedback on WhereScape RED! We're glad to hear that you find our platform helpful in consolidating your ETL processes and saving you time. We understand that the scheduler could use some improvements, especially when it comes to moving items between environments and sending out notifications. We appreciate your input and will take it into consideration for future updates.

At WhereScape, our goal is to provide a solution that streamlines the data integration process and helps businesses like yours efficiently manage their data. We're pleased to hear that our platform has been beneficial in consolidating your design and deployment responsibilities, allowing you to focus on other important tasks. If you have any further suggestions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to support you.

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2024

**What do you like best about WhereScape RED?**

RED comes with a well working data vault creation and update processing starter pack. But best is, that you are able to customize and patch everything by yourself as far as you want. There are very lot of features you can use, if you know them.

**What do you dislike about WhereScape RED?**

there are a lot of little bugs and unintuitive behaviours of the software, which produces a lot of pain - especially at beginning of usage. It is hard to learn and you are quickly overwhelmed by it's complexity.

The seemless integration when we migrated from the ETL to the ELT area. The migration from teradata and Informatica to wherescape happened very smoothly and most of the functionality we were able to implement successfully.

**What do you dislike about WhereScape RED?**

We had some trouble during early days to troubleshoot some issues as there were fewer documentation and community available.

**Recommendations to others considering WhereScape RED:**

A very good ETL tool which serves all the modern day DWH requirements.

**What problems is WhereScape RED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to save a lot and the hassle to have two technologies teradata and Informatica in our case was removed to minimum with just one tool.

**Official Response from Kortney Phillips:**

> Thank you for your positive feedback about your experience with WhereScape RED! We're glad to hear that the migration from ETL to ELT went smoothly and that you were able to successfully implement most of the functionality.

**Reviewed by:** Kishor M. | Senior Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2019

**What do you like best about WhereScape RED?**

we started using wherescape Red a while ago when we started on a new project which required a medium to ingest the data from different source into our Teradata Environment. when we got to know about this tool we explored it and found it apt for the requirements we had. We extracted and transformed the data before loading it when we were finding it difficult to write Bteq jobs and implementing it on mainframes to do the transformation this tool became very handy and reduced a lot of manual efforts. I especially like the dependency flow diagram which it creates which gives the overall view of how a table is getting populated. Also maintaining the metadata of the table is very simple with this.

**What do you dislike about WhereScape RED?**

The only downside of the wherscape tool we found was during creating a job dependency.

**What problems is WhereScape RED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has mainly reduced a lot of manual work which we were doing while writing the jobs, also we were able to test and run the jobs with a click of a button.
