Also the interface is very great, I like the search, and the shortcuts have the application. I think this app help a lot for work as professional with Javascript, allow understand how to works the async functions and promises. **What do you dislike about WebStorm?** I dislike the not easy configuration for FE when I need run a new project, or Fe project. I think too is necessary a panel for run the UT. One thing is the app sometimes consuming 1 or 2gb de ram, that is a lot when you are using multiples programs running to the same time trying to test your app. **Recommendations to others considering WebStorm:** Is a great tool, if you are a full stack developer or Backend developer working with node or some framework based on node like express, this is a great tool, that help a lot to discover bugs or behaviors are not the right, and also can debug better the application you are developing. I think is one of the best tools I used for can work with nodeJS and javascript. **What problems is WebStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?** I can detect more easily bugs or weird behaviors for the code, and allow me make better implementations and fix critical errors on a quick way. I work using loopback and the UX with this is very great, now, programming with Javascript and node is very funny when you have a tool like webStorm. ### 2. Yes, you can use Sublime Text with some plugins or Atom, or in the worst case, some Microsoft things like Visual Basic. But if you are smart, lazy, and need to be faster, try WebStorm IDE. You can try the EAP version, which is free and auto-updated. If you are a back-end programmer, you can use PhpStorm; there is also an IDE for Java, Python, Ruby, etc. Everyone finds their way because there are also plugins to expand your abilities. Over time, this IDE learns your style and predicts your next step or movement. I love this stuff because it is everything I need :) **What do you dislike about WebStorm?** I have some problem with Czech characters in terminal window. Also, I am missing a better way to create a new branch in SVN projects. But these are bugs, which will be repaired in the next few updates :) You may dislike the price of this software; I own a license from some competition where I won it. It recognizes the syntax the the particular language or framework your using. Moreover, running and debugging is easy to set up with the environment, given that you can download particular plugins for the language/framework. Smart tabs are also useful if your team is particular about spacing. **What do you dislike about WebStorm?** On bigger projects webstorm can feel a bit bloated, especially when it re-indexes randomly. Copy and pasting is can be horrendous in webstorm: sometimes it just does it 'wrong' and can completely reformat your code in an unpredictable way. **Recommendations to others considering WebStorm:** Might not be worth the money, but my best IDE experience for web yet. **What problems is WebStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?** Just writing code. ### 4. Most of the settings for different servers, languages, and other things are localized to the project so your environment doesn't become affected by the plethora of project specific settings you need. It also has setting synchronization (so if you are like me, you do projects on the side) so making sure your IDE is exactly like you like it on any computer is super easy. Search anywhere works as expected, the software is regularly updated and support for the latest technologies are added to the application very very quickly. Code refactoring mechanisms work as expected, there is built-in documentation engines for many languages and the templating system for snippets is absolutely phenomenal. With IntelliJ, I honestly don't need anything else to build applications especially since Docker is supported natively as well! **What do you dislike about WebStorm?** The documentation is not good at all. A lot of the power of IntelliJ is hidden in the very deep documentation. The community behind IntelliJ is really quiet and documentation to help extend it is abysmal. Also, the variable stuff for different servers (like path variables) does not work AT ALL. **Recommendations to others considering WebStorm:** Just jump in. You won't find the power of webstorm the first day because it's just that big. Start with a small project and click around. You can debug right from within the editor and step through your code easily. You can also set your tests to run with every single code change. These two abilities alone are what would make me choose WebStorm over simple text editors, but there are also plenty of other features worth switching for, such as decent Intellisense, excellent file navigation and super useful refactoring tools. **What do you dislike about WebStorm?** On slower computers the IDE can be a resource hog. I also find it to be a lot less pretty than other editors like Sublime or Atom, even with some theme tinkering. It also just feels quite bulky. JavaScript language support is top notch as is it's integration with core js libraries like Angular. Git support (and other VC software I believe. I only used Git however) is great and is really helpful being able to diff files, see the history tree, ability to revert back to previous commits etc, all within the app. I loved the like up declaration ability so I see exactly where something (whether be a dependency, method, or style) is declared. If you've ever used Eclipse's lookup feature it's very similar. The plugin library is quite large and pretty much covers most any feature you might be looking for, especially great VIM key binding support. There were only a few keybindings that I weren't supported but they were more edge case and I found I didn't really need them. Color theming is very robust, allowing you to define even the smallest of a language's feature different colors or styles. Grunt integration is great and I love being able to launch my tasks directly from a Grunt task running window. **What do you dislike about WebStorm?** More complaints about JetBrains rather than WebStorm itself. I have a distaste for subscription based models as JetBrains is now doing, but I do like their perpetual license policy, which helps mollify having to pay every year. The IDE, due to it's large size nature, can be kind of sluggish at time if I'm processing a lot. Also, since JetBrains has a lot of products to work on, bugs oftentimes not be worked on for a very long time. I've been waiting for one particular bug (distraction free mode not producing a giant gutter on the left side of the screen) for over 2 years. **Recommendations to others considering WebStorm:** It's a great product. Currently, you have to download each new version (even minor update) manually and replace the old file. At least, that's how it works in OSX **Recommendations to others considering WebStorm:** Don't forget to switch to the dark colour scheme. I believe it is more healthy (or less impactful) for your eyes due to less brightness getting to your eyelids. As for me, over time I've designed my own colour scheme and using it everywhere. Simply do the same - once configured to your needs, make sure you export it and store it somewhere, say on github. **What problems is WebStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?** They had to do one thing at JetBrains, and they totally succeeded in it. Usually I use a mere text editor for web projects but if I need something closely coupled and for big projects, I use webstorm. It has same features of the text editor, Atom. Multi cursor select via alt + j or manually by alt + click. Smart contextual completion for CSS , ability to auto reference class names from HTML in CSS and js. As with their intellij or clion, webstorm is awesome for javascript. Can debug node projects from in itself.
