"Powerful Micro-Segmentation and Unified Management with NSX"
4/5
What do you like best about VMware NSX?

The standout strength for me is micro-segmentation—the ability to enforce granular, workload-level firewall policies that isolate applications and prevent threats from moving laterally across the network. Beyond security, NSX also delivers real operational value with its single-pane-of-glass management: we can manage switching, routing, load balancing, VPN, and monitoring from one console instead of juggling separate physical devices. It’s highly automatable through APIs, which fits naturally into our automated provisioning and DevOps workflows. It also keeps networking and security policies consistent whether workloads run on-prem, in the cloud, or in containers, giving us a lot of flexibility without sacrificing control. What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

The learning curve is steep, especially for admins who aren’t already deep in the VMware ecosystem. The UI isn’t very intuitive, and getting truly comfortable with the platform takes significant time and hands-on experience. We’ve also run into occasional bugs and added complexity during implementation, and support isn’t always quick to resolve issues when they come up. On top of that, licensing has become more complicated since Broadcom’s acquisition: NSX is now bundled inside VMware Cloud Foundation rather than sold as a standalone product, and advanced security features are priced separately on a per-core basis. All of this makes cost planning less straightforward than it used to be. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Revolutionizes Network Security and Virtualization"
4/5
What do you like best about VMware NSX?

I really like the micro-segmentation feature and centralized network security management of VMware NSX, which gives us better control over traffic between workloads and lets us apply security policies consistently. The automation and flexibility are also great, making network changes easier to manage without relying heavily on manual configuration. With micro-segmentation, we can isolate workloads and limit unnecessary communication between applications, which enhances security while reducing the impact of any compromised workload. The centralized policy management simplifies defining and applying consistent security rules across the environment, providing better visibility and control over network traffic, and making security management easier as our environment expands. What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

One area that could be improved is the complexity of configuration and troubleshooting. VMware NSX has many networking and security capabilities, but it can take time for new administrators to understand the concepts and navigate the platform. Better documentation, more intuitive troubleshooting tools, and simpler policy configuration would make it easier to manage and support day to day. I’d suggest more guided troubleshooting workflows, with clearer error messages and step-by-step recommendations for common networking issues. A more intuitive policy-dependency view would also help administrators understand how configuration changes affect traffic. Improved diagnostic reports and more practical examples in the documentation would make troubleshooting faster, especially for newer users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Network Virtualization and Security with VMware NSX"
5/5
What do you like best about VMware NSX?

What I like most about VMware NSX is its strong network virtualization and security capabilities. It supports micro-segmentation, streamlines network management, and helps maintain consistent security policies across virtualized environments. The centralized management interface, smooth integration with the VMware ecosystem, and built-in automation features make network deployment and ongoing management far more efficient. Overall, its scalability, flexibility, and advanced security options can improve application performance while also reducing operational complexity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

While VMware NSX delivers powerful networking and security capabilities, it comes with a steep learning curve, particularly for anyone new to software-defined networking. Licensing can be costly, and the initial deployment and configuration often require careful planning and a high level of expertise. Troubleshooting more complex network issues can also be difficult. That said, once it’s in place, NSX offers excellent scalability, automation, and security, which ultimately outweigh these drawbacks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Robust Network Virtualization with Cost Considerations"
3.5/5
What do you like best about VMware NSX?

I find VMware NSX fairly rapid and easy to deploy once you have an understanding of the VMware infrastructure. It allows me to tightly implement network security using the zero-trust model. It also supports infrastructure-as-code (IaC), which is really beneficial for us. Perhaps the greatest strength is being able to move virtual machines running on VMware without having to readdress IPs if they're in different subnets and data centers. What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

I find the high licensing cost of VMware NSX prohibitive, especially for new small or medium business customers. I also find troubleshooting challenging when issues arise with NSX. It comes with its own complexity and quirks at first, so it's not the easiest to get up and running smoothly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Micro-Segmentation and Fast Network Provisioning with VMware NSX"
4.5/5
What do you like best about VMware NSX?

What I like best about VMware NSX is its powerful network virtualization and security capabilities, especially features like micro-segmentation, which improve security by around 45 to 55% by isolating workloads at a granular level; it also simplifies network management across 100+ virtual machines by abstracting networking from hardware, reducing manual configuration effort by nearly 30 to 40%, and enabling faster provisioning of networks in minutes instead of hours, making the infrastructure more flexible, secure, and scalable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

What I dislike about VMware NSX is that it has a steep learning curve, especially for teams new to software defined networking, and initial setup or troubleshooting can take 25 to 35% more time compared to traditional networking solutions; it can also be relatively expensive to scale, and deep configurations like micro-segmentation and firewall policies require strong expertise, which may slow down adoption and increase operational complexity in the early stages. "Powerful Yet Complex NSX Experience"
3.5/5
What do you like best about VMware NSX?

I use VMware NSX mainly for security in virtual environments and managing traffic between VMs. What I like most about it are the security controls, which allow me to control which VMs can communicate with each other, giving me more visibility and control. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

The complexity of learning VMware NSX makes me frustrated sometimes. There are so many features that it can take a lot of time to learn. Without a doubt, micro-segmentation and firewall rules are complex to understand. Also, I found the NSX routing a bit tricky due to the concepts like Geneve tunnels and such. "NSX Makes Realistic Network Failure Testing Easy"
5/5
What do you like best about VMware NSX?

As a QA, NSX lets me realistically simulate network failures, block specific connections (for example, between the frontend and the database), and validate security rules without having to change the application code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VMware NSX?

As a QA, the main downside for me is the platform’s complexity. Setting up realistic test scenarios often requires a lot of infrastructure knowledge. Fortunately, I can rely on our network team to help with that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
