It eliminates the headache of manually tallying vRAM and CPU core usage across complex environment. Having automated hourly reports sent straight to VMware's backend provides effortless billing accuracy, saving time, resducing administrative overhead, and ensuring compliance without constant supervision. **What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation Usage Meter?** Finicky deployment and complex upgrade paths frustrates me most. Minor network glitiches or cerdential shifts can silently stall telemetry reporting, triggering billing compliance alerts out of nowhere. And configuring multi-tenant appliance and navigating the strict SSL certificate steup oftern feeks unnecessarily rigid, required far more hand-on troubleshooting than an automated repoting tools really ought to demand. **What problems is VMware Cloud Foundation Usage Meter solving and how is that benefiting you?** These solves the apin of manual usages tracking, messy spreadsheets, and unpredictable licensing audits across complex environments. By automatically collecting core and vRAM consumption data hourly, it eliminates human error and reporting gusswork. And this gurantees accurate subscription biling, pervents unexpected compiliance penalties and saves hours of tendious admin work each month allowing me to focus on managing actula infracture ratehr than cruching liciensing number every cycle. ### 2. Earlier the team was pulling vCenter and vSAN usage data manually every month for reporting and it used to eat up two to three days easily. Usage Meter connects to the vCenter endpoints and keeps collecting on its own, so by month end the numbers are already sitting there. Deploying the appliance was also simple, we had it up in less than an hour. And since it is agentless, we did not have to touch any of the production hosts, which our infra team was quite happy about. **What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation Usage Meter?** The interface feels quite old and very basic. It does the job but there is hardly any flexibility in the reports, so we still end up exporting the CSV and reworking it in Excel for our internal format. Upgrades are also painful because you deploy a fresh appliance and migrate instead of a simple in place update. When a collection fails there is no proper alert, someone has to log in and dig through the logs to figure out what broke. Documentation could be much better too, we learnt most of the troubleshooting by trial and error. **What problems is VMware Cloud Foundation Usage Meter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our main problem was monthly usage reporting for the cloud provider licensing. Data was spread across multiple vCenters, vSAN and NSX, and the team was compiling it by hand which meant errors and late submissions. With Usage Meter the collection happens automatically and the monthly report goes out on time. Realistically it has cut around 20 hours of manual effort every month for our team, and the billing disputes with finance have almost stopped because everyone now looks at the same numbers. ### 3. It gives us better visibility into how our resources are being utilized, which is particularly valuable when managing a large infrastructure. Having that level of visibility helps us understand where resources are being consumed, identify potential areas of over-allocation or underutilization, and make more informed decisions about capacity and spending. Overall, it has helped us optimize our costs while also giving us a clearer picture of the environment. For larger infrastructures, I think this kind of centralized usage and resource visibility becomes especially valuable for day-to-day capacity planning and cost management. **What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation Usage Meter?** We haven’t faced any major issues with it overall. However, a few months back, we did encounter some problems where records were getting duplicated and some of the metrics appeared to be inconsistent. This made it a little difficult to rely on the data at that time, particularly when using it for usage tracking and cost analysis. That said, the issue seems to have been resolved, and everything has been working well for us as of today. We set it up and then hand it over to the program manager office for tuning. Tenant app plugin seems to be nice, but having functionality issues. **What do you dislike about VMware Cloud Foundation Usage Meter?** Tenant app plugin. Seems to be a bit of disconnect between usage meter and the tenant app plugin. Currently having issues allowing mission partners to have access to the tenant app to see their billing via the tenant. **What problems is VMware Cloud Foundation Usage Meter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Billing on demand or charge back billing. Allowing mission partners to purchase x amount of resources but only be charged for the resources they are actively using. ### 7. To facilitate the flow and scalability, Usage meter helps to check and regulate the flow of data usage. Reports are directly integrated of a month on systems.
