Now, speaking of the equipment itself, I can say that its strengths are: simplicity of configuration, friendly interface, high tierization intelligence, providing a very attractive data availability and volumes for the different functions in which we use it. **What do you dislike about Unity XT?** Price, price and price. Investing in on-premise storage has always been expensive, greatly impacting TCO, and is now much more evident with cloud storage-as-a-service solutions. This type of equipment needs official support, so, even after purchasing the product for an already high price, we still have to evaluate the investment in support up to the EOL, in our case. **Recommendations to others considering Unity XT:** Evaluate whether the investment in on-premise storage pays off for your business or is it more advantageous to hire a cloud storage solution. Because, by purchasing a local storage, you will have costs such as electricity, security, environmental cooling, official support and cabling. **What problems is Unity XT solving and how is that benefiting you?** The Dell EMC Unity solution helped us to create our virtual clustered environment, Vmware, providing high availability for our various virtual systems, in addition to providing volumes for our backup system (Bacula Enterprise), also for our MAM (Media asset) system. management - Alfred) and volumes for end users via SMB sharing via Active Directory ### 3. Unity300: The Storage that gave us security **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2022 **What do you like best about Unity XT?** Currently, we use Unity300 for image and video storage with the MAM - Alfred system and for Backup, together with the Bacula Enterprise tool, and we also use it in one of our Vmware clusters, where we run less critical applications. Unity has always been stable and, until today, with 5 years of use, it has not presented any type of failure, working on a 24x7 basis. It's a great product that delivers what it promises. **What do you dislike about Unity XT?** My dissatisfaction is with regard to the value of the product. It's extremely expensive. Support is also very expensive, but it is a product that we can do without. There's also the fact that he's coming to the EOL, if I'm not mistaken, in 2025. **Recommendations to others considering Unity XT:** Unity is a great piece of equipment to have in on-premise format, however, as I mentioned earlier, the product requires a high investment. If that's not a problem for you, he will serve you excellently. **What problems is Unity XT solving and how is that benefiting you?** It guarantees data availability thanks to its hardware and disk redundancy mechanism, proactive support and easy configuration. Also it allows for firmware upgrades and drive firmware upgrades to go much smoother. IQCloud is a great indicator of when something is not going as expected. It also provides help in terms of vulnerabilities since it provided with the proper information and link to the firmware upgrade required. **What do you dislike about Unity XT?** It would be nice to have a snap in on vCenter itself. Also, domain authentication is a bit of an issue. For example, once you allow domain authentication, you would expect to type username and password on the login screen. However, you need to use the format user@domain which in itself is not too problematic, but the username is actually case sensitive. So if your username has upper case, for normal Windows logon it is not a problem, but for this it is. **Recommendations to others considering Unity XT:** We have been using this product for about a year and I can say that we have never had any issues. **What problems is Unity XT solving and how is that benefiting you?** We used to havea VNX appliance, and when we needed to create a Datastore and add it to VMWare, it involved way too many steps. Also the VNX interface was very outdated. Once we upgraded it to Unity, the GUI interface was more streamlined and easy to manage. Also adding datastores is no longer an issue as we can do this very easily and without any issues. ### 5.
