## About Takeoff
Takeoff is construction takeoff and estimating software for Windows, built for owner-estimators, small contractors, specialty trades, remodelers, and rehab investors who need measured scope without another monthly subscription. Start with the source. Import a PDF plan or supported image, establish scale from a reliable dimension, and measure counts, lengths, connected segments, perimeters, areas, and volumes directly against the drawing or photograph. For photo-based work, the known reference and the measured object should sit on the same plane; Takeoff keeps the source visible so users can review what the number actually rests on. Measured quantities flow into a transparent estimate. Users can build and reuse cost items, assemblies, formulas, labor, material, equipment, subcontract, waste, overhead, and profit. Scope can be organized by sheet, room, trade, location, phase, layer, and bid package. Notes, assumptions, exclusions, and pricing logic remain connected to the quantity instead of disappearing into a disconnected spreadsheet or somebody's memory. Estimates can be reviewed beside their source, saved as issued bid versions, reopened later, and prepared as proposals, workbooks, quantity reports, bid packages, or complete project packages. Reusable cost setup and saved projects help preserve the decisions that made a prior estimate work. Every estimate should make the next one better. Takeoff stores projects and estimating setup locally on the Windows PC, and the core workflow remains available offline after installation. It is designed for a focused owner-estimator or small team, not realtime browser collaboration. It does not provide automatic AI takeoff, mobile workspaces, general PDF editing, accounting, CRM, or enterprise project management.
