# What makes Samsara gateway installation slower on some vehicles than others?

Been digging into why Samsara hardware installation runs long on some fleets and not others. From the reviews the variable is the vehicle rather than the gateway: Kenworth and Peterbilt cabs come up by name, trailer devices bring power supply considerations, and powered asset gateways are described going offline after fitting. Vehicle and camera installation together is where the per-unit time goes.

Set against that, the reviews describing installation positively outnumber the ones describing it as slow, and they use the same words repeatedly: quick, straightforward, pain-free. The account side is described as one email, a click and a password. So the picture is less that fitting Fleet Management hardware is hard and more that a handful of vehicle types absorb disproportionate time, which is a planning question rather than a capability one.

Which vehicle types in your fleet took longest to fit

Whether trailers and powered assets behaved differently from cabs

Whether you used Samsara's installers or did it in-house

For anyone who has fitted a mixed fleet, roughly what per-vehicle time did you land on? And did the awkward vehicles turn out to be a one-off or a pattern across that make?

Planning the rollout by vehicle type seems key here. If a few makes or powered assets consistently take longer, separating those from the straightforward installs makes scheduling much more predictable.
