The biggest win for me is how quickly I can stand up a working backend. I build prototypes and small internal tools, and Supabase gives me a real Postgres database, authentication, and an API without having to pull a developer away from other work just to get it set up. I really appreciate Supabase for being essentially Postgres underneath, allowing me to leverage standard SQL whenever I need more than what client libraries offer. The table editor and SQL editor in the dashboard are genuinely pleasant to use. I love how easy it was to implement auth with Google and GitHub logins, which only took an afternoon. The realtime subscriptions are super useful for our live dashboards, and the JS client with generated TypeScript types keeps our frontend honest. The local development experience with the CLI and migrations is solid. I also find the documentation clear, with copy-paste examples that work, and the free tier is generous enough to properly prototype before committing any budget. Knowing that we can self-host because it's open source and not being locked in is reassuring. The branching and preview environments make pull request reviews less daunting. It's powerful but easy to get subtly wrong, and debugging a policy that silently returns zero rows is frustrating. We experience slow support on the lower paid tiers, so we end up relying on GitHub issues and Discord. The dashboard observability is fairly basic, so we still reach for external tooling to chase slow queries. I really like how Supabase offers a pretty intuitive navigation system, with everything available on the left side, which means less navigation to get where I need to go. I use it for hosting text-based databases and media storage for my projects, including my portfolio. The SQL query editor is super handy, which helps in storing structured data in tables. Supabase's media storage also feels like a normal file explorer, making it easy and understandable. The initial setup was straightforward, and I could easily comprehend how everything operates. It would be helpful to explain concepts like tables, primary and secondary keys, and security measures during onboarding.
