The SQL Compare is fantastic for quick and easy comparison of two servers to ensure they are in sync for the data objects. The SQL Data Compare is also extremely valuable to compare data between two servers and make the data transfer with a few mouse clicks. The SQL Prompt makes the job of SQL script writing a whiz. The SQL Data Generator is a huge help when creating a new system and you just need some quick random data to test out the design and queries. While those are the tools I use most, I use each one of the tools in the toolbelt and the cost was worth every penny as it saves numerous hours of work. **What do you dislike about SQL Toolbelt Essentials?** I have not found any downsids of the SQL Toolbelt as it has paid for itself many times over in time savings making the job of a SQL Developer and DBA a joy. **What problems is SQL Toolbelt Essentials solving and how is that benefiting you?** It takes the built in SQL intelligence to a next level. I have saved numerous hours using the SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare after a deployment to verify that the systems are in the expected state. I have also used those two tools as a part of troubleshooting to ensure the state of the environment is what is expected and not contributing negatively to the situation. They changed how I develop. Between syncing structures from environment to environment (SQL Compare), to syncing metadata between environments (SQL Data Compare)... to writing good, nicely formatted SQL quickly (SQL Prompt).... I don't do SQL work without out. Working with other relational databases (like PostGres) just isn't as fast without these incredible tools I have in the SQL Server space. I also like how your license "follows the person," so I can install the tools in all the places I work without licensing noise. Red-Gate isn't cheap, and you end up giving Red-Gate tools to your best and most productive people (because they'll get the most value). It has the wizardry of scripting. It does versioning and also schema orientation, safeguarding of integrity--bookkeeping. DB Administration It is a nice set of modules that can be installed easily and it is good for the novice or mid level knowledge of the database world. It does alot for this. **What do you dislike about SQL Toolbelt Essentials?** The only thing I can think of and it is not anything bad, folks that are db savvy or expert level may find this to be basic for them The folks we have that fits this criteria like to write their own modules. They like to get behind the scenes and see how it accomplishes it's tasks. Nothing really about it to dislike. It is a good package. **Recommendations to others considering SQL Toolbelt Essentials:** The toolbelt has two types of packages available. First has 11 modules modules. The second package has 14 modules. For us we got the second package because it had all the tools we were going to need.. However if you decide to go with the first package, you will want to add the SQL Backup Pro and the SQL Monitor as an add-ons and they are an extra purchase. Talk to the rep on this. **What problems is SQL Toolbelt Essentials solving and how is that benefiting you?** In my company,we implement and advise client's how to setup temporary full functioning satellite office and or testing labs. everything from location down to the IT infrastructure. Depending upon the needs of the client we look for software that can be easy to use, easy to deploy and help them right off the bat. I find that the toolbelt accomplishes this for managing database activity One of the modules SQL Backup Pro does a decent job in backing up the server. one of the test I ran was restore of the database on a test machine. It was able to do this with full integrity intact. This is paramount for us because these are satellite locations which are sometimes experience problems that are not seen at the main sites. The versioning is also great for us because it allows us to restore the database back to a specific date. ### 15. From database administration such as server monitoring or backups, to development tools such as SQL Search and Dependency tracker, it makes all our tasks which usually take considerable amounts of hours to complete, seem so easy and ready in a couple of minutes. With SQL Compare, deployments that usually take hours to script and test now take a couple of minutes, having a rollback script included as part of the process to make every deployment as easy as possible. **What do you dislike about SQL Toolbelt Essentials?** Even though this tool is amazing and there are really no weak points that effect my judgement on this tool, SQL Backup can become quite slow to load backup history which might become tedious when trying to view all backup history for a particular instance, especially if log shipping is in place. **Recommendations to others considering SQL Toolbelt Essentials:** Make sure that you need all the tools offered in SQL Tool belt. All tools are available individually so there is no need to buy the entire bundle if not needed. **What problems is SQL Toolbelt Essentials solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main tool that led us to buy SQL Tool belt is SQL Monitor. Our infrastructure includes more than 8 physical machines with multiple instances on each machine. SQL Monitor saves us a lot of time for monitoring the entire infrastructure in real time and at one glance. Of course, we also adopted other tools mainly SQL Backups which has changed our way of taking database backups due to amazing compression rates and SQL Compare which has made our deployment strategy much easier. ### 19.
