**Reviewed by:** Sujal K. | IT consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2023

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

Targeting the genuine cutomers with the help of this software is so easy, as the features help in analysing the information about the clients visit on your website.
It has the AI tools in it which helps in automatic all the work digitally and setting algorithms for marketing and capagning to attract and engage more and more customers.
The userinterface and the functionality of the platform is very much easier and has the best and easy functioning tools for making your work easy and intuitive.
As it works on a cloud based system, so the accessing of data gets more easier and flexible for all at any time.
This is basically helps you in growing your work and business all over the world.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

When processing high level of data and analysing large number of information of the visitors over your websites, the OS gets slower and the speed is effected of the software.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The software is basically helping us to deliver the good services to your clients on time. We are helped by this software in getting and engaging the customers. The configuration set and algorithms processed and used here are helping me and my team to gather the customers and there data at one place.

  ### 2. Works for it's purpose but dated

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2023

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

Definitely has all of the functionality you need to handle deploys at a large scale, and is suited to heavily technical people.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

The UI is dated and can be a bit hard to figure out where things are sometimes.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping us to do our deploys in a timely fashion, and it's easy to understand the status of them.

  ### 3. Spinnaker Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** mohnish t. | Site Reliability Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 01, 2022

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

The UI is good and the canary deployment feature is the best compared to other tools in the market. Even though Jenkins holds a high position in the competition, Spinnaker is equally good.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

The complexity of the pipeline structure and minimal usage of resources, along with a not-so-great UI, could be improved. Also, more addons and plugins for custom modes would be a good improvement.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Canary deployment is the best in the SPiannker pipeline, which solves the traffic management and zero downtime usage, and it's so productive. Yes, business will definitely improve a lot with this approach.

  ### 4. Continues deployment made easy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2022

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

Spinnaker is a very easy to use tool with perfect UI interface and easy setup making it a go to tool for deployment EC2 deployments and kubernetes deployment are very easy using spinnaker

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Their is no in built monitoring feature in spinnaker for example any of my spinnaker monitoring pod goes down the owner never gets notified which leads to loss of high availability

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

Start using spinnaker for faster deployments , start with non production requirements post that few customised changes can be made to spinnaker pods for specific use cases like deployment without creating r rpm or Debian packages etc

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Currently working on removal of manual steps to fecilitate whole deployment process with just a click. Working on building automated pipelines for trigger based deployments

  ### 5. Spinnaker provides me the best way to manage my CI/CD pipelines

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

I have worked at Amazon before, and they used to have an internal CI/CD manager. At the startup I work with, Spinnaker provides really good way for me to manage the same, coming to almost at-par of what Amazon used to have internally.
The triggered deployments based on ECr is what saves the day for me.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

There are few key missing features as well, as far as I am aware. For example, specifically for experimentation, spinnaker can provide plugging in external resources (like a dev desktop) for a particular deployment, making sure that the load balancer also pushes the load to this,

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Primarily managing CI/CD is super easy with Spinnaker. This enables me to monitor the deployments without logging into consoles, and making sure everything is running smoothly.

  ### 6. Don't use, consider gitlab

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexander T. | DevOps Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

Monitoring and deployment; once everything is set up

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Slow, buggy, very resource hungry, lacks some basic functionality (in ECS, no container overrides) , no much support or further development since release 1.26 in April 2021. Reported a few bugs that were closed after 90 days because of inactivity

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

I regret my investment (time-wise) in the tool. Should have used gitlab instead

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Continuous delivery/deployment

  ### 7. A fantastic Robust Continuous Deployment System for software delivery

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andres L. | DevOps Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

stability and easo of multi-cloud multi-platform deployment.
Robustness. Ease for debugging.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Documentation, Community docs repo. The information is scattered and is hard to find a procedure to achieve something specific.

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

Join the slack community
read the docs first
read the blogs in medium
watch vids from the spinnaker summit to grasp the runtime behaviour of the system

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deploy to Sandbox, Test, Branch, QA, Systest, Sectest, Staging and PROD hotfix quickly.
Follow a CI/CD to deploy to AWS ECS Fargate.

  ### 8. One click deployments using Spinnaker

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

You can setup pipelines for different processes.. e.g. one pipeline can be configured just to release artifacts while another will pickup the released artifacts and deploy it to any domain that is configured. Each pipeline is configurable with steps that can be defined and linked to jenkins jobs that can either cut artifacts, create docker images, deploy docker images to domains etc..

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

For manual judgement steps which need to be triggered manually, if there are multiple pipelines waiting in that phase, it is not possible to move them forward until the others are dismissed. Workflow Steps are unidirectional so there is no going back in case anything fails or needs a change.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to release everything manually and deploy using chef which was causing bottlenecks. We wanted to do a one click deployment functionality which are fast and do not require constant supervision.

  ### 9. Spinnaker among other delivery platforms

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

It supports incremental deployments and supports “green/blue” deployments which are crucial in Agile methodology. Due to cloud deployments, it is easy to manage and configure deployment pipelines.
The best part is easy creation and adjustment of deployment pipelines using a GUI interface.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

It does not have plugins options like in Jenkins which makes it hard to work with. Secondly, It is not comfortable in managing SCM, thirdly, we sometimes struggle in running tests and building packages. Spinnaker API is more popular than the Spinnaker pipeline to deploy to AWS.

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

Spinnaker helps in deploying a cloud-based delivery model. It makes easier due to application, cluster, and server groups understanding. Overall, it is still grooming and hopefully, Netflix will provide more changes to it.
Nonetheless, it is still an amazing product to try out.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Initially, it was difficult in the client environment to deploy anything as lots of process needs to be followed, but by CI CD, and using Spinnaker deployments are smooth, more than 200+ deployments have been completed in last 6 months. The project is on track and will finish sooner than expected.

  ### 10. Deploys AMI's in AWS as well as images in docker

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew L. | Sr. Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

Spinnaker enables you to deploy code pipelines into the cloud on with great flexibility.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Ironically, it is a nightmare to setup and configure. It is a total pet that requires the used of a purpose built installer.
The primary way for deploying software seems to be via manually created pipelines rather than code by infrastructure.
It is a little split brained in that it is made to make deployments in the cloud easy and reproducible, but spinnaker itself is not that way, and neither is the creation of the pipelines.

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

Spend the time learning Halyard. It is a pain and, to me, feels like the wrong way to install a production system, but it is the supported and actively developed install path.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It enables us to deploy AMI's on AWS EC2 instances via a CDO model.

  ### 11. Fantastic cloud-agnostic deployment tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

The ability to fully control and deploy the whole infrastructure. Very, very customizable pipelines. Full overview of your infrastructure, logs for all the changes. Easy reverts of the failed deployments, all the AWS features are fully supported.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

It's really hard to setup and configure from scratch, especially, if you have some tricky and specific setup.
Knowledge base is still very small and missing a lot of important things, so you need to try a lot to find your perfect setup. But, if you've configured it once, it will just work in the perfect manner for years.

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

You need to spend a lot of time once to install and configure everything and to find the way to automatically change the applications and pipelines, but when you will finish with it, you will just have fun and your life will become much easier.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted to have the single-point deployment tool for the very specific and multi-account setup, which will allow us to control everything. We've got it and after the hard work to set it up, having fun every day.

  ### 12. It is a fantastic product.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ted S. | Software Programmer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

It allows implementing lines of code in the cloud with great flexibility. Has the ability to control and fully deploy the entire infrastructure. Supports multiple cloud providers such as AWS, Cloud Foundry, Google Cloud natively. It can be activated using the github hook, manually using cron or from someone else.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

I have not had any problems with this product yet, it's great. Technical support instantly repairs any minimum fault.

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

I recommend giving this great system a chance, I know you will love it. It is unique and reliable, it is useful and will solve many of your problems.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are integrating the software, and solving hosting problems in the cloud. This system has helped us enormously. It is a great system.

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

The platform for getting software live in the cloud it's very easy and pretty fun to use. All you do is get the info synced and that's it

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Sometimes the software is a little bit slow but if you are patient everything works out great within the program.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving our cloud hosting issues and helping integrate software

  ### 15. Review for Spinnaker

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

It combines a powerful and flexible pipeline management system with integrations to the major cloud providers. It creates deployment pipelines that run integration and system tests, spin up and down server groups, and monitor the rollouts.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Need to set up in a web UI, so it's little bit hard for setup.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To define a continuous delivery flow within the pipeline, which allows us to complete the whole deployment including the approval flow—using one tool

  ### 16. CICD on Cloud !

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

- I came to know about this open source tool from one of the meetups at Target
- I was working for target and learnt that target contributed to this tool
- very sleek and user friendly

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

- Support take some time as this is a open source tool

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

- i would highly recommend this tool
- it has plenty of plugins

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- using it for continuous delivery platform

  ### 17. Awesome Deployment tool for the the Cloud age!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

This continuous deployment tool treats cloud and containers as first-class problems. It integrates very well with many cloud as well as container orchestration platforms such as GCP, AWS and my favorite, Kubernetes!

Pros:
- Integrates with many "providers" out of the box
- Treats containers as first-class problem
- Open source and fast-growing community

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Spinnaker is developing quickly and some features might deprecate as the platform grows. My biggest complaint is that it lacks in Pipeline as a Code area, although there are some beta features being developed.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Continuous deployment of Kubernetes manifests to Kubernetes platform.

  ### 18. Spinnaker Cloud Deployment Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

Relative ease of use tool for continuous deployment to AWS.
Open source with good support
I's a pretty complete solution.
Great tool for automating deployments as well as rollbacks in the event that something goes wrong.
It allows you to orchestrate multiple steps in the deployment cycle.
Works well with Jenkins.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Setup can be a nightmare.
It's not possible to build plugins to Spinnaker.
Having to recreate pipelines from scratch.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Continuous delivery to AWS.

  ### 19. Modern Pipelines for Modern Applications and Infratructure

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samuel B. | Principal Consultant/Continuous Delivery and Containers Practices Lead, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2017

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

Spinnaker makes it easy to coordinate my build and deployment processes on multiple clouds with the same interface. This helps to standardize how pipelines are created that move code to different environments while making the steps very transparent. The project has great opensource support and some companies providing enterprise capabilities as well. I also like the fact that user authentication and authorization is integrated for separation of concerns for manual adjudication of deployments and access to projects.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Spinnaker is still growing to support a larger user base than just Netflix and some features still need work. Pipelines as code to facilitate storing and reproducing pipelines is a much needed feature that would make standing up new pipelines much simpler. Spinnaker is composed off microservices which can make deploying and managing the platform difficult and require a lot of compute power to run. If your company is mature in its infrastructure capabilities than this tool makes sense but might not be right for smaller shops.

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

Evaluate your ability to implement and support a platform that is fairly heavyweight composed of multiple components. Be clear that this is an "enterprise" level solution because it could be expensive to maintain for both compute and people resources. This solution requires a certain level of maturity around immutable infrastructure to truly take advantage but if you are there, this is the only solution of its kind.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Separating and orchestrating build and deployment processes to achieve cohesive management of software rollouts to cloud and container environments. Spinnaker does a great job of providing a visual environment to view and manage CI and deployment steps for software in a cloud-native environment. I also like the integration with Kubernetes to deploy containerized applications.

  ### 20. Spinnaker works well for large enterprise setup!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Debajit K. | Sr. DevOps Manager ( Tools, automations and Release Engineering ), Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

First thing first - its an open source. We liked Its ability to package code , configs entirely in a single RPM. It helped us to propagate the same packaged RPM ( code + configs i.e. baked AMI ) to higher environments which epitomises the whole concept of 'code promotion' in an immutable env./infra.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

You need skills to tweak it to your needs! :D

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

You may give it a shot! as it is open source.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CD in cloud ( especially AWS )

  ### 21. Yet another deployment solution

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Binayak G. | Software Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2016

**What do you like best about Spinnaker?**

Big plus for docker support. Also, deployable units can be JAR files as well.
Supports multiple cloud providers like AWS, Cloud Foundry, Google Cloud natively.
Can be triggered using github hook, manually using cron or from some other
pipeline. Could push update packages to existing instances to minimize wait time.
Has a nice ui that can resize, edit, delete server groups and load balancers.

**What do you dislike about Spinnaker?**

Spinnaker has a good support for JVM based projects. Unfortunately, for projects
that require anything else, it escalates into a big headache. Also, we had some
deployment problems with AWS.

**Recommendations to others considering Spinnaker:**

If your use case consists of only JVM based projects, then spinnaker is good, even great.
Give it a go.

**What problems is Spinnaker solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Not much, gave it a trial but had to choose another because of the severe limitations
of handling non-JVM projects. It integrates with several services (on paper) so that would have
saved us some time.
