Originally built to demonstrate Scintilla, it has grown to be a generally useful editor with facilities for building and running programs. It is best used for jobs with simple configurations - I use it for building test and demonstration programs as well as SciTE and Scintilla, themselves. ## SciTE Reviews ### 1. The interface appears outdated and needs to benefit from some updates it bothers me personally. The search feature is sometimes inconvenient especially when working with folders as it occasionally freezes the program and requires a restart. **What do you dislike about SciTE?** While SciTes simplicity is seen as a disadvantage compared to editors with advanced capabilities it excels in providing a user friendly interface and features that simplify coding tasks. Some developers find its integrated features for JS programming activities to be resource intensive and potentially slow down their computers. **What problems is SciTE solving and how is that benefiting you?** It lacks tools and features that are considered essential by certain developers. When it comes to customization for use cases other editors provide noncomprehensive options. I find SciTE to be a frustrating tool for developers. Its less user friendly interface and poor features have disturbed the productivity of our development projects, at our business. ### 2. It provides code highllighting and appealing colours. One of biggest characteristivs is that it is completely customisable. Another aspect that is extremely useful to me is that , while it comes with a range of attachments,it allows me to add a variety of accessories bassed on my needs. Finally,in case something goes wrong, it offers an automatic save tool. **What do you dislike about SciTE?** Overall SciTE is a greate tool. But i dislike is seach , which is inconvennient when it is entered into the folders beacuase SciTE editor has a fault that cause the programme to stop and force you to close and reopen it that is the thing i dislike in this. **What problems is SciTE solving and how is that benefiting you?** SciTE's integrated features to do standard JS programming activities, taking advantages of its simplicity to open projects fasta without the additional caapabilites that some other editors have slow down the computer. ### 3. I have been using this to write AutoHotkey scripts in the SciTE4AutoHotkey variant, and it is just so powerful! **What do you dislike about SciTE?** Code completion is not as well developed as some other editors, but that is to be expected for a free product. **What problems is SciTE solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allows you to customize it for differnet use cases. Additionally, another feature that I like is that an open source software. **What do you dislike about SciTE?** For me, this software was created thinking of developers who have no money to acquire a license, so I have nothing negative to say about it. **Recommendations to others considering SciTE:** This editor has excellent features such as automatic suggestion, syntax highlighting and plugin installation, so I recommend it without a doubt. **What problems is SciTE solving and how is that benefiting you?** Writing code in Scite has several benefits, including automatic suggestion. Another advantage is that you can run scripts without problems and also debug. ### 5. You have options to see end lines, line numbers, indentation guides or whitespace. Another feature that is very helpful to me is that although it brings a variety of accessories, it also allows me to install numerous accessories according to my needs. Finally, it has an automatic save tool in case something goes wrong. **What do you dislike about SciTE?** Thinking about the disadvantages of this software, only its interface came to mind. In my opinion, it has an outdated design and I would like it to have a more modern and more colorful theme. **Recommendations to others considering SciTE:** I recommend using SciTE to improve your productivity and take advantage of its excellent code visibility features. The tool is portable, so it can be carried everywhere. In addition, it has a wide variety of accessories to adapt it to your needs. **What problems is SciTE solving and how is that benefiting you?** SciTE is a program for people like me, who have a wide variety of text files and we must open it in different tabs at the same time. This software helps me manage my code without even showing signs of slow running on the computer. The most important thing is that it supports different programming languages and has automatic saving options. ### 6. I like that the program has features. The interface is simplistic, basic and fresh. This tool also has the ability to create, save code extensions. Another feature that I like is its color highlighting in each code variable. In addition, it supports several programming languages such as Java, C, Javascript, JSON and PHP. **What do you dislike about SciTE?** I wish the search / replace feature could add more options such as search by variable or word. I would also like to have add-ons for text highlighting or autosuggestions. **Recommendations to others considering SciTE:** I love the concept of SciTE editor. I am a fan of open source software. It has everything you need to accomplish the task of backend editor. I suggest you try it for small projects and as you use it you will choose to develop everything in this editor. **What problems is SciTE solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use SciTE to create mobile connection APIs for small projects because I can take it on the computer or on a USB stick because the program is very light. It also allows me to edit small lines of Javascript code for various to add to various products. ### 7. SciTE has code highlighting and the colors are attractive. It has good features such as loading speed and replacement functions. I can say that it is a light program and easy to install. **What do you dislike about SciTE?** For large-scale editing it is mandatory to do it in an IDE. SciTE does not have the integration tools to carry out the development of the code, besides it does not have the debugging functions to execute it. On the other hand, the program slows down when opening large files. **Recommendations to others considering SciTE:** SciTE is great for test files. It is easy to highlight the code in this editor and replace words. SciTE will cost you nothing and is open source. I like that it has support for the most used programming languages such as HTML, Java, Javascript, PHP and C. It also has text prediction functions to facilitate code entry. **What do you dislike about SciTE?** The user interface and text highlighting may dislike you because they are not very colorful and there are no animations. **Recommendations to others considering SciTE:** I recommend this application as an alternative for quick file verification and simple changes that can be made in an application. It is a lightweight, open source and cross-platform solution. **What problems is SciTE solving and how is that benefiting you?** SciTE is my favorite tool to write queries or scripts for various applications that we have in the organization. For me it is much simpler to enter a software that should not load a large number of add-ons and that slow down the execution, than to open a traditional editor that will waste my time when they are such easy tasks. It allows me to open / edit multiple files in a single window, offering an excellent user experience. I also like its macro scroll function on the right side.
