The zero-dependency approach is what sold me on it. I needed to add an RSS feed to a static site and every other option either required React, a backend proxy, or pulled in 200KB of libraries for something that should be simple. RSS Feed Widget is under 7KB and works with a single script tag. I dropped it into my page, pointed it at my feed URL, and had a working card grid in about two minutes. The image support from v1.1.0 made a noticeable difference visually. If your RSS feed has enclosure tags with images, the widget picks them up automatically and renders them as card thumbnails. Before that update the cards were text-only and looked plain compared to what you see on modern content platforms. Dark mode detecting system preferences without any extra configuration was a nice surprise. I did not have to write a single line of CSS to make it match my site's dark theme. The category filter buttons are auto-generated from the feed's categories, which means I never have to update the UI when I add new content categories. Performance has been solid. The widget loads fast even on slower connections because there is no framework overhead. The skeleton loading animation keeps the page from jumping around while the feed is being fetched, which is a small detail that makes the whole experience feel polished. The built-in XSS sanitization is something I would not have thought about until it became a problem. Since RSS feeds can contain arbitrary HTML from external sources, having that handled automatically gives me confidence embedding third-party feeds without worrying about security. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about RSS Feed Widget? The widget only supports RSS 2.0 feeds right now. If you have an Atom feed you would need to convert it to RSS first or find a proxy that handles the conversion. Adding Atom support would make it more versatile since a lot of platforms still publish in that format. CORS can be a hurdle depending on the feed you are trying to load. If the target feed does not include the right headers, the browser blocks the request entirely. The documentation mentions using a proxy as a workaround, but it would be nice if the widget handled that fallback automatically instead of requiring the developer to configure it. I publish content regularly and wanted a way to display my latest articles on other pages without manually updating them every time something new goes live. Before using RSS Feed Widget I was either copying and pasting links by hand or looking at embed solutions that required a backend service or a monthly subscription for something that should be straightforward to do with a standard RSS feed. The widget solved that by turning my existing RSS feed into a self-updating card grid that I can embed anywhere. Every time I publish a new article it shows up automatically without me touching the embed. That alone saved me a recurring task that I was doing multiple times a week. The other problem it solved was keeping things lightweight. My site is performance-focused and I was not willing to add a heavy framework just to render a feed. The widget runs entirely in the browser with no server-side processing and no external API calls beyond fetching the feed itself. Page load times stayed exactly where they were before I added it.
