It was very easy to set up with its smart user interface that directly pulls from an Excel spreadsheet or allows you to just type in the ticker symbols. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** The software has a serious flaw as it's numerical only. It should also create a verbal score of sorts, such as conservative, moderate, or aggressive. I also VERY much dislike how they FORCE contract renewal, even for me, a long time user. I will never do business with a company like this again. **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** I used Nitrogen to quickly assess clients' risk tolerance, appreciating its simplicity, though it lacked verbal scoring options. ### 2. It was a good baseline talking point. I was also easy to use. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** Nitrogen increased the cost of the main product by over 100%. The execution on the increase was terrible in messaging. They also became terrible at invoicing. I was invoiced incorrectly so many times, that they even had the CEO email me. I first started using it back in the beta stage and as it has been tweeked and upgraded over the years it has become to confusing and too expensive. Now I am trapped in a contract and have to pay when I don't even use their software. The old trick was played to trap me into this contract. I guess I live and learned. The merit of the software does not even matter to keep me as a client. Now I am a client that feels and is stuck paying for something that is no use for me. Companies should not trap you into contracts. You should want to stay with them because you like there service. However thus company does not have that philosophy. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** Out dated and old way of doing business. This company will have high turnover of customers as it does contracts i. This stage of the world. Where no one does contracts for software . They have earn your business but this company does not have to earn the business after sign a contract. I wouldn’t say we were scammed but were sold on this fact, and they over subscribed us licenses including, one Autopilot licensed which we didn't need. Now, that the fund drop out of the NTF program they are full boating us the $1300+ per month for unused licenses. Their remedy was for us to sign us up for a new 12 month agreement, and they would graciously drop the Autopilot license. No Thank you! Since the CEO has left this year, the name and sadly the company has changed. The stress-test feature is also very useful. The best aspect for me is the rebalancing. It is easy to use their models, create your own, and trade on your preferred platform. It saves valuable time. I have been an early adopter and it would take quite a bit for me to look at another resource. The customer support is efficient and effective as well. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** Sometimes it feels like walking through the risk tolerance exercise with clients is a little repetitive. This tool is well thought out and allows clients to have a quick view of their portfolio versus their risk profile. One of the functions that has protected us the most as an investment advisory firm is that the client signs an investment policy where everything is clearly explained. They have an excelent. In addition to this, they have a wonderful customer service team. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** They did a new look and feel update a while ago, which I don't love. Nitrogen is easy to use and was equally easy to integrate into our workflow. The best feature for my firm is Nitrogen’s Risk Number. The Risk Number quiz is easy for the client to take in a few minutes and the resulting information is useful for starting a conversation with the client about an investment plan. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** The only downside is the rising cost for features I don't utilize. Nitrogen is worth the current cost but I fear they may price themselves out of my budget soon. **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** Nitrogen solves several problems for my firm. First, we use Nitrogen to help the client, and us, understand their risk tolerance. Second, Nitrogen makes it easy for us to show the client how the investment plan aligns with their risk tolerance and goals. We are not able to subscribe to have certain models update automatically. It needs to be manually updated. Structured products are not recognized. Investment analysis, retirement planning, client check-ins, and many other features make a long list of things I love about the software. It is a requirement that we run client information through Nitrogen when we begin our client onboarding process. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** The ONLY thing I can say I dislike about Nitrogen is that some individual bond positions or CD holdings of clients can take some time to input. I have done some training with their staff to remedy the friction point and they were very helpful to make me a better user of the software! **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** Nitrogen is solving the problem of taking the subjectivity out of risk tolerance when understanding what clients want. The relationship managers are fantastic and usually handle everything we need however the general support email seems to take a while to get back to you. **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** We were looking for a platform and infrastructure to house model portfolios where we can distribute them out to our advisors in a central location. Nitrogen allows us to have a common standard to judge all models by through their risk number and GPA figures. This became known to me when I inquired about the increased charge and was informed that they emailed me four times in March to discuss. I told them that I had recently moved my practice from Florida to Tennessee during that period and was in my blackout period, awaiting my license to transfer. They did not try to reach out in April or May to confirm that I was on board; instead, they just let their changes go through. Now they are not working with me to try to make things right but would instead leave on this fraud contract at the end . **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** Nitrogen is not solving any issues for my firm but instead is costing me additional money for a service that is not needed. ### 13. While Nitrogen is constantly being improved, sometimes those improvements are incomplete. This forces you to jump back and forth between old and new versions. The "Proposals" section isn't usable for me. I wish I could compare the current and proposed portfolios side by side. The PDF reports are good, but not great. They feel a little forgotten by the development team. As a regular user, I can attest to the reliability and security of the panel; I never worry about making investments through it and instead rely only on this panel whenever possible. I have used all three with both prospects and clients. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** When evaluating outside holdings, particularly inside 401k plans, it can sometimes be difficult to find the specific holding (Ticker or CUSIP) in order to deliver the most accurate proposal. **Recommendations to others considering Nitrogen:** Riskalyze provides a multi-faceted tool which can assist in all phases of serving advisory clients. From the pre-client stage with risk assessment, proposal and retirement map - to using the same tools during their lifetime as a client. Helps clients understand the amount of risk they are taking (or not taking) with their portfolio, the impact on likelihood of meeting their goals. **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** The three I outlined above; risk assessment, proposal generation and light planning. I like that the conversations with clients are largely not investment specific, and more planning specific. I invite clients to assess their risk level approximately every two years - or when they have experienced a significant change in circumstances. The retirement map keeps clients focused on the goal - and less so on short term performance. ### 30. I am able to load an existing portfolio and quantify the clients risk while being able to show them real risk and performance data. Then I can very easily give them an "apples-to-apples" comparison of how working with us and our portfolios compare. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** I honestly don't really have any complaints. **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** There have been many occasions when meeting with a prospect and reviewing their portfolio with them that I am able to show them how much risk they are actually taking (most of them have no idea how much risk they are taking) when they don't need to be taking anywhere near as much risk. I am able to show them how they can reach their goals while actually taking less risk and lowering volatility in their portfolios. ### 34. Some minor caveats. I would like to see a copy portfolio feature to where you can bulk move all the positions to cash instead of having to click on them individually or the alternate step of remembering what the account balance is when you create a new proposal if you don't copy the holdings. The RTQ only has positive or negative in regards to the market and confident or anxious in the financial future. I wish those had a third option in the middle. **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** Help taking the emotion out of investing. Create responsibilities for the client as we are only as good as the information they give us. Being able to have a template for an investment policy statement. Visual presentations for proposals. Simplifying meetings and shortening them to build more time on relationships. The dashboard that shows the current portfolio and the proposed portfolio side-by-side is a wonderful feature. I can not say enough good things about using it!!!! ### 35. Most of the annuities included in the database have outdated or difficult-to-find ratings of the subaccounts. A lot of the analytics for each holding is inaccessible from the client-level interface and you have to go back out to the main screen to access. **Recommendations to others considering Nitrogen:** Give it a try, but don't forget to give other vendors a chance to showcase their features and benefits too! **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** Both clients and prospects have a very clear understanding of how their portfolio is currently positioned with respect to risk after a quick input and calculation. The retirement map feature provides a nice visualization for clients to better understand where they're at with respect to financial independence or retirement based upon their current portfolio, savings plan, and/or how changes being considered will help improve the trajectory. ### 38. It also provides the ability to show the clients a retirement map to help them save for their future. Riskalyze also creates an Investment Policy Statement which is a clear benefit for both of our relationships. The very first client we used it on moved enough money to pay for the software due to the detail that Riskalyze provided!! It has been the best investment in to our practice that we have made. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** Nothing, the software, support and tools are easy to integrate into your business. When we joined the onboarding team was great at helping us get trained as well as directing us to different self training sites for the furtherance of our training. The software is very robust and can be a little intimidating at first, this could be a problem for a busy advisor trying to integrate this into their practice. **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** The problems we are solving are making sure the portfolios are the exact risk tolerance the clients wants. The benefit is that is removes the emotion out the process. They were the first with real risk tolerance analysis and from what I've seen, they're still the leader. They continue to innovate and add value for advisors. They've gone from a service I used to measure a client's risk tolerance to being one of the three software tools I couldn't live without. The other two are my CRM - Redtail and my financial planning program. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** No real downsides that I can think of. I used to use it just on the client side but now cannot work up my investment models without it. Modern platform, with advanced tools to incorporate your own models or those of large asset managers. Numerous integrations. Retirement Map feature is good for basic planning. *Outstanding* customer support--fast and thorough. Conscientious folks from the top down. All around, they are our favorite software provider. Annual conference is a must-attend. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** Automatically classifying certain esoteric assets can be problematic, but there are workarounds. Biggest gripe as a solo adviser (2 people total) is extra cost to add a (true) assistant's license, as that capability is helpful especially if you get into some of the more advanced features like portfolio management, as well as review prep and just monitoring client data in the program. I say "true" assistant to differentiate between us in solo firms vs. a hypothetical group of a half-dozen practicing advisers under one "team." There should be an option to have one extra login for solo shops. **Recommendations to others considering Nitrogen:** Forget your ancient, firm-provided risk analysis tool and ditch labels like "moderately balanced." **What problems is Nitrogen solving and how is that benefiting you?** Aligning expectations. Easily quantifies the amount of risk clients are willing to risk for potential future returns, and they get it. Lots of people say they're comfortable risking 20% until you show them in detail that it's $200K on a $1 million portfolio. We love showing prospects how they're allocated vs. their questionnaire, as it's usually way off. Check-In feature automates touching base with client. Built-in Meeting feature is quick and easy to screen-share with client. ### 41. There are other players now. I would recommend doing your due diligence comparing Riskalyze to the others. Since its inception, I have used their platform and watched them evolve their software to the changing needs of advisors and clients. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** Certain information can be seen online but not in reports—likely due to advisor compliance or regulatory guidelines. **Recommendations to others considering Nitrogen:** In fairness, I have a bias to Riskalyze because I have used them since inception. There is not a perfect software for anything, but I find their risk software platform to be pretty damn awesome. I even read the 1-star reviews on G2 before posting this review, and it appears most of the low ratings submitted were for contractual issues and not the software itself. I will certainly contact Riskalzye and encourage them to better address contractual disagreements, but it is their company, and I'm sure there is another side to every story. We consistently use it to get client scores and we also use it to back test our own internal models for a risk number. **What do you dislike about Nitrogen?** In putting portfolios manually is a little cumbersome. Of course they will not permit a cancellation of the contract, but they will offer to allow you to buy it out for a price. **Recommendations to others considering Nitrogen:** Be clear about the terms of the contract. And that we can adjust their portfolio once they see the downside probability. This is a very interactive risk tolerance methodology and from our perspective they are the leader in this area. The leadership of the company provides innovation and adds value for advisors. They provide services we used to measure a client's risk tolerance to being technology we use regularly with clients. This would be in addition to Redtail and our financial planning program. Very smart and friendly support staff willing to assist quickly.
