"Review of erwin Data Modular an Powerful Data Modeling tool."
What do you like best about erwin Data Modeler?

I use erwin Data Modeler for designing databases, and it really helps reduce poor database design. It also cuts down on data redundancy and inconsistency. What I like most about erwin Data Modeler is that instead of reading hundreds of SQL lines, I can see tables and relationships instantly, understand how data flows, and spot design issues early. I find the Diagram Editor (ER Diagrams), Forward Engineering (SQL Generation), Model Validation, Reverse Engineering, Metadata Manager, Naming Standards Editor, and the compare and merge functionality especially valuable. Also, handling complex relationships and large models is much easier with this tool. The initial setup wasn't difficult because we received clear steps from the support team, which was helpful. What do you dislike about erwin Data Modeler?

The UI can feel a bit old compared to modern tools. The license cost could use a revision as well. Performance with large models needs improvement. Integration with modern data tools isn't seamless, as it's not fully 'cloud-native'; it’s still primarily a desktop-based tool, and the cloud features feel like add-ons rather than native components. "Powerful Modeling and Engineering, but an Outdated UI and Slowdowns on Large Models"
What do you like best about erwin Data Modeler?

What I like most about erwin Data Modeler is how much it speeds up going from an idea to a usable database design. I can sketch entities and relationships visually and then generate the structured query language directly from the model, instead of manual writing large scripts. The reverse engineering feature is equally valuable because it lets me pull an accurate model out of an existing database so I can clearly see the current updated structure. With the shared modeling environment, developers and analysts are all looking at the same latest version of diagram, which has already helped us catch relationship issues early and avoid rework. What do you dislike about erwin Data Modeler?

The downside for me is the user interface. It does everything I need, but the design feels dated and the navigation isn’t very intuitive, especially with so many nested menus. When my models grow large (over 150 tables), the tool can become sluggish and the automatic layout often produces diagrams that are hard to read, so I end up spending extra time rearranging entities by hand. There’s also a noticeable learning curve at the beginning—I needed a couple of days of trial and error just to get comfortable finding the right options. On top of that, the license cost is higher than some lighter or open-source alternatives, even though it does become a dependable workhorse once you’re past the setup and learning phase.
