What is QGIS, and what problem is it built to solve?

QGIS is open-source GIS software for creating, editing, visualizing, and analyzing geospatial data. It helps users turn geographic information—including vector, raster, and database data—into maps and spatial analysis.

What languages does QGIS support?

QGIS supports 1 language: English.

What company sizes and industries is QGIS the best fit for?

QGIS is used by positively rated reviewers across small, mid-sized, and enterprise organizations, with activity clustering in several geospatially focused fields. The strongest segments include:
  • Company sizes: Small businesses, mid-market organizations, and enterprises.
  • Industries: Civil engineering, research, computer software and IT services, environmental services, government administration, and higher education.

What customer support options does QGIS provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

QGIS support options include a knowledge base, email/help desk, and FAQs or forums. The support experience is largely self-directed: users value the community forums and online guidance, while troubleshooting complex issues can take extra searching and effort.

What is the experience like for teams switching to QGIS from another tool?

Switching to QGIS is often driven by the cost of commercial GIS licensing, while its mapping and spatial-analysis tools give users a capable alternative for many established workflows. ArcGIS and its related products are the most commonly named prior tools, with MapInfo also mentioned; users describe adapting to a different interface and learning some workflows as part of the transition. The open-source model can also make it easier to extend access across a team without adding license costs.

What tools and platforms does QGIS integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

QGIS lists 1 integration, GRASS. Users also describe working with it alongside tools and services such as:
  • GIS analysis tools: GRASS and SAGA.
  • Spatial databases: PostGIS, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server.
  • Web mapping and publishing: GeoServer and WMS/WFS services.
  • Statistical tools: R.
These connections help users bring spatial data into analysis workflows, work with database-stored layers, and prepare or publish map outputs.

What features or capabilities could make QGIS even more useful?

QGIS could be more comfortable to learn and more dependable for demanding projects, while also smoothing map production and plugin workflows. Users point to these constructive improvements:
  • Make the interface and tool navigation clearer, especially for beginners and for locating less familiar functions.
  • Improve stability and processing performance with large datasets and complex operations.
  • Make print layouts and map exports easier to refine for polished, professional outputs.
  • Expand documentation and learning guidance for tools, plugins, and troubleshooting.
  • Improve plugin compatibility and communicate updates more clearly so changes are easier to manage.

"Best in Opensource software for Spatial analysis"
4.5/5
What do you like best about QGIS?

It's fast, very rarely crashes. Just be patient and it will open up. It can be learned easily and a lot of developers are working on it, so it's getting improved day by day. It can be customized by entering into the software script. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QGIS?

The search function is not as effective as ArcGIS; it needs improvement in that area. Additionally, its tools are somewhat fewer compared to ArcGIS, making our work more time-consuming. Output templates are not pre-created, and customization takes time for layout creation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A very relevant and affordable GIS analysis tool"

What do you like best about QGIS?

QGIS is a great tool to analyze geospatial data that is also freeware. I love that it basically does everything other software like ArcGIS does but has the advantage of being affordable to own. It has extensive plugins like EPANET that I use to exploit or analyze my data extensively, which is a huge plus for me since I don't have to export the information. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QGIS?

Absolutely nothing. I loved my experience using QGIS and I never found that it lacked anything I needed. It's very comprehensive and an amazing software which I would recommend to anyone who needs to analyze geospatial data or make kick-ass maps. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about QGIS?

QGIS has numerous plugins which help in project creation. qgis2web plugin is among the many plugins of QGIS and it helps in exporting my projects as web maps either as leaflets or open layers, including most of my styles in that specific project. It is also cheap to acquire as it is an open source software and thus it is free. It is also light and does not require much space thus can run on many computers. What do you dislike about QGIS?

Installed desktop QGIS has less processing functions and the GUI should be improved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great yet simple tool that does the work"
4/5
What do you like best about QGIS?

Qgis is a great and simple tool that for me does the work. When it comes to geospatial analysis I use qgis. I love that its so easy to implement this tool since all I have to do is download it online. It is available as a freeware and has very many versions. I love that it is kept current and updated on the regular to ensure that it stays current and relevant. It has great tools, menus and icons that address all the needs of incorporating gps data or any other kind of data be it an image from google earth and exploiting the data to achieve my set agenda. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QGIS?

First of all qgis is not as powerful advanced as arcgis when it comes to the kind of commands it can execute. For the most part it works profoundly great and handles large data sets and various data types. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Make your maps more reliable"
5/5
What do you like best about QGIS?

I have been using the QGIS more than 2 years as a professional environmental scientist. The only GIS application is worth to use ever. I really like and appreciate the creators of the software itself , because it makes the scientists works easier than previous. Because in this market, there many applications, but none of them was as useful as QGIS. And it's free to use rather than other GIS applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QGIS?

Even though app itself is free to use, which I really appreciate. However there is some features which you can not use properly, or in some cases you can not expect the highest performance from the software, due to the synchronization problem with your devise.
