Point it at a .pst archive or an .ost cache and you see the mailbox the way its owner left it: nested folders, the message list next to them, and the selected letter across the whole window. It opens the file read-only, so read flags keep their state and the mail stays on your disk. 🔰 How to use the PST viewer 1. Install the app, press Open and select the archive. A file on a network share or one pulled from a backup works the same way. 2. Watch the folder tree fill in. Folders appear while the file is still being parsed, and each one carries a message count. 3. Choose a folder, then type a sender, recipient, subject or a phrase from the body. Add a date range when you know the month. 4. Open the letter. Tables, signatures and inline pictures render as they were sent, and attachments sit next to the text. 5. Export what you need: the letter as EML, MSG, PDF or HTML, a printout through the Windows print dialog, or the attachments under their original names. 👍 Why IT and office teams pick this PST viewer - Office and a mail account are optional, because the format reader is built into the program. - It also works as an OST viewer. An .ost from a deleted account, or from the old Windows folder after a reinstall, is just another file here. - Filters run on the open folder directly, so there is no index to build before the first search. - Folders with thousands of items load in chunks and keep scrolling. - Nothing goes out to the network, which keeps HR, legal and patient correspondence off third-party servers. ✅ Who uses it - Admins sorting through a departed employee's mailbox before deciding what to keep. - Support desks that need a single letter as a PDF inside a ticket. - Reviewers handed an archive and asked to report what it contains. - Teams confirming that a migration or a backup job produced a complete .pst. - People with a personal archive and a new laptop who want to open a PST file without Outlook. ❓ FAQ Do I need Outlook or Microsoft 365 to view a PST file? No. This PST file viewer handles the format on its own, with no sign-in. Can I open an OST file from an account that was already deleted? Yes. Outlook wants the original profile back, while this OST viewer reads the cache from disk. Does it export a whole mailbox? No, export works per message. For a full archive, SoftOrbits sells a separate converter. Will opening the file change it? No. It is never rewritten, re-indexed or repaired in the background, so the copy you hand back matches the one you received. Can it fix a corrupted or password-locked PST? No. The PST viewer expects a readable file without a password. ℹī¸ The free trial lists every folder with its real count and opens the first 20 messages in each. A license lifts that cap. Windows 10 and 11, 16 interface languages. - [View PST and OST Viewer for Outlook pricing details and edition comparison](https://www.g2.com/products/pst-and-ost-viewer-for-outlook/reviews?section=pricing&secure%5Bexpires_at%5D=2026-10-04+16%3A18%3A14+-0500&secure%5Bsession_id%5D=1025389e-b0fc-4cba-814d-cf0f06513494&secure%5Btoken%5D=a40713e611cef43cf77377f9e2f44842b5b27904de870df34f54308371f96aa7&format=llm_user) ## PST and OST Viewer for Outlook Features **Additional Functionality** - Data Import/Export ## Top PST and OST Viewer for Outlook Alternatives - [Vanta](https://www.g2.com/products/vanta/reviews) - 4.6/5.0 (2,708 reviews) - [Workiva](https://www.g2.com/products/workiva-workiva/reviews) - 4.5/5.0 (2,139 reviews) - [Optro](https://www.g2.com/products/optro/reviews) - 4.6/5.0 (1,614 reviews)
