"Proxmox VE Flexible, powerful virtualization with a learning curve, excellent value"
5/5
What do you like best about Proxmox VE?

Proxmox VE combines virtual machines and Linux containers in one practical web interface, with useful tools for managing storage, networking, backups, and clusters. I appreciate its straightforward UI/UX, flexible integrations, and automation through its API and command line. Documentation and community support help with onboarding and troubleshooting. Its performance and open-source pricing model offer strong value and ROI, especially when moving away from costly virtualization platforms. It also provides a flexible foundation for hosting AI workloads and connecting external tools for intelligent automation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Proxmox VE?

The main downside is that setup and troubleshooting can take Linux and virtualization knowledge, especially for networking, storage, and cluster configuration. Teams used to another virtualization platform may also need time to adapt their workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Exceptional Virtualization Density, Native Storage Support, and Value"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Proxmox VE?

Proxmox VE offers an outstanding balance of performance, flexibility, and cost efficiency. The ability to run both full KVM virtual machines and lightweight LXC containers side-by-side in a single clean web interface makes resource management seamless. Its native out-of-the-box support for enterprise storage like ZFS and Ceph, along with clustering and live migration without expensive licensing paywalls, makes it a reliable hypervisor for production environments. What do you dislike about Proxmox VE?

While Proxmox VE is powerful, its third-party enterprise ecosystem is still maturing compared to VMware or Hyper-V, especially regarding native integrations with some commercial monitoring and backup vendors. Additionally, troubleshooting deeper networking, storage, or cluster quorum issues often requires comfortable Debian Linux CLI knowledge, which introduces a steeper learning curve for administrators used to fully GUI-driven enterprise platforms. The default "No subscription" repository warning pop-up can also be slightly frustrating for initial evaluations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Proxmox: Enterprise-Grade Virtualization with Efficient KVM + LXC and Strong Performance"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Proxmox VE?

Proxmox delivers zero-compromise enterprise features without pushing me into predatory licensing gymnastics. Its dual-architecture approach—running heavy-duty KVM virtual machines side by side with ultra-lightweight LXC containers on the same host—is a masterclass in resource efficiency.

The platform has matured a lot in recent updates. The native Software-Defined Networking (SDN) layer makes it straightforward to build more complex network fabrics, and the addition of the Cluster Resource Scheduler (CRS) for automated, dynamic load balancing is a real shift for high-availability clusters. It monitors node stress in real time and live-migrates guests on its own to keep the environment stable.

On top of that, passing high-end enterprise GPUs directly through to a VM for local AI/LLM workloads has been flawless for me, and the performance is excellent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Proxmox VE?

While I really like the responsive, server-rendered web GUI, the UX clearly prioritizes function over form and has a distinct “engineer aesthetic.” As your cluster scales out, keeping track of deeply nested resource pools can start to feel cluttered and harder to scan.

The onboarding and ongoing maintenance curve is also a bit of a double-edged sword. A basic bare-metal installation can take less than 20 minutes, but troubleshooting more advanced network bridges or recovering a degraded ZFS array often means diving deep into the Debian CLI.

Finally, in stricter enterprise environments, enterprise support is very responsive but fully ticket-based—there’s no 24/7 emergency phone line like you’d get with legacy proprietary hypervisors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"All-in-One Virtualization with Clustering, HA, and Flexible Storage"
5/5
What do you like best about Proxmox VE?

What I like most about Proxmox VE is its straightforward, all-in-one simplicity.

It brings VMs and containers together in one place, includes built-in clustering and HA, supports flexible storage options (ZFS, Ceph, etc.), and provides solid backup features—all without the expensive licensing associated with VMware vSphere. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Proxmox VE?

The UI feels fairly basic, the documentation can be uneven, and the more advanced features—like networking, HA, and Ceph—often end up requiring extra manual work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlined Virtualization, Effortless Setup"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Proxmox VE?

I use Proxmox VE for hosting Virtual Machines, which is perfect for testing and live purposes across all types of software testing and automation. What I really appreciate is that I don't need dozens of physical machines to run multiple operating systems; just one server with hardware and an operating system suffices. I like the ease of setup and the substantial assistance available via the web, which is especially beneficial given the many implementation options, particularly in a home lab environment. Proxmox VE works well with Linux, and there's a community with hundreds of groups that provide even more solutions collectively, thanks to it being open source.
