OpenVAS Reviews & Product Details

Easy to update and use this tool for VA. It's an open source tool but it works the same as other paid tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Sometimes it's difficult to download reports. If we start multiple scans on different targets, it becomes unresponsive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

OpenVAS, also known as Greenbone Assistant or GVM, is a free and open-source web app for major Linux distributions that, leveraging the powerful OpenVAS scanning engine, allows you to obtain and test any hosts or any subnet of hosts against all vulnerabilities found and reported on CVE and other authoritative historical datasets containing such vulnerabilities. The GUI allows for the immediate creation or scheduling of manual, scheduled, or repeated tests through an event scheduler, and through the same GUI, it is possible to see the progress of the scan as well as any issues encountered and/or vulnerabilities found in real-time without waiting for the scan to finish. I consider OpenVAS the most authoritative tool for conducting non-destructive security audits on one's infrastructure, and the speed and simplicity with which it allows you to quickly achieve results of significant value for security and business make it the first tool to install and learn to use for any expert/operator in the Security field. The default Redis configuration is not suitable for handling scans with large numbers of hosts and their open services. Therefore, it is necessary, although not officially documented, to perform a very complex tuning to avoid crashes and the unavailability of the VM where OpenVAS is installed, which would result in the loss of data and control over ongoing and past scans. Furthermore, the log export option does not allow filtering what to include in the PDF report and what not (e.g., false positives or already resolved issues).
