"Great network monitoring solution for those on a budget"

What do you like best about Network Monitoring Management Software?

Spiceworks network monitor allows us to keep tabs on our Windows servers, both physical and virtual, as well as various network equipment. You can customize the thresholds for email alerts, and get notified if a server goes over resource limits and/or goes down for a set period of time. The dashboard is easy to navigate and the setup was very straight forward. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Network Monitoring Management Software?

The web interface occasionally stops updating real-time data and shows a loading bar for the resources. You can still manually dive into each server to view real-time stats if needed, and alerts still function. I love everything about Spiceworks. It's so easy to use and gives me tons of useful information about the devices on my network. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Network Monitoring Management Software?

It is improving constantly, but the scanning speed is always an issue and that means the info on some devices isn't as current as I would prefer. I manually scan them and it updates, but I wish it would do a better job of monitoring itself and scanning devices more frequently when the info isn't current. Not being able to turn off email notifications. I get an excessive amount of emails a day from every single ticket put into the system. It would be helpful to only get email notifications for tickets that are assigned to me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Network Monitoring Management Software?

The solution is extremely flexible for each monitored device, by operating system. It allows independent thresholds per system or device as well. This is a great up/down solution but also for more granular monitoring such as memory consumption, disk activity and more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Network Monitoring Management Software?

The software does not reconcile down systems well. Our branch location links occasionally go down, and once the tool detects them as down, they do not come back up and must be deleted and re-added. The software can also eat up a bunch of disk space, so if it co-locates with another app, the drive can fill quickly if you don't keep on the logs or automate cleanup. The GUI can also be a little slow to load. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Network Monitoring Management Software:

The software is quick and easy to implement. It runs quick on a VM or a physical box. Its pretty light on resources but its logs can quickly fill up a drive if you don't stay on top of them or have a script to clean them up after a period of time. The software is agent less, so there is little to no impact on the monitored devices. It can even monitor SNMP traps from switches, printers, copiers and other devices. it does a great job monitoring off-hours when we are not staffed. The monitoring is done on servers, switches, appliances both physical and virtual as well. The software is no-cost so there is no risk in giving it a try. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Network Monitoring Management Software?

I like the way the system alerts me to significant issues that need immediate attention. For example, if my server doesn't have the latest update on antivirus patches. It even alerts me when a printer is getting low on toner. Plus it's FREE! (for a limited version) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
