## About NetLogo
NetLogo is a multi-agent programmable modeling environment designed for simulating natural and social phenomena. Developed by Uri Wilensky in 1999, it has been continuously enhanced at the Center for Connected Learning and Computer-Based Modeling. NetLogo is particularly adept at modeling complex systems that evolve over time, allowing users to instruct numerous independent "agents" operating concurrently. This capability enables exploration of the relationship between individual behaviors and the emergent patterns resulting from their interactions. Key Features and Functionality: - Cross-Platform Compatibility: Operates seamlessly on Mac, Windows, and Linux systems. - Fully Programmable Language: Utilizes an extended dialect of Logo to support agent-based modeling. - Agent-Based Modeling: Facilitates the creation and control of mobile agents (turtles) that interact over a grid of stationary agents (patches), with the ability to form networks and aggregates through link agents. - Extensive Models Library: Offers a comprehensive collection of pre-written simulations across various disciplines, including biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, economics, and social psychology. - Interactive Environment: Features an interface builder with tools like buttons, sliders, switches, and monitors, along with a command center for real-time interaction. - Visualization Tools: Provides 2D and 3D viewing options, scalable vector shapes, and dynamic plotting systems for data representation. - Participatory Simulations with HubNet: Enables networked participatory simulations where each participant can control an agent, enhancing collaborative learning experiences. Primary Value and User Solutions: NetLogo serves as a versatile platform for educators, students, and researchers to construct and analyze simulations of complex systems. Its user-friendly interface and extensive documentation make it accessible for beginners, while its robust programming capabilities cater to advanced research needs. By bridging the gap between individual behaviors and collective phenomena, NetLogo aids users in understanding and predicting the dynamics of various systems, thereby facilitating informed decision-making and deeper insights into complex processes.

## NetLogo Reviews
 ### 1. A Powerful Tool for Agent-Based Modeling

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Umesh D. | Web Developer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2025

**What do you like best about NetLogo?**

NetLogo's natural language and simplicity make it easier to learn and utilize both by first-time modelers and experienced modelers. The ability to quickly prototype and visually represent agent models is immensely powerful. Well-documented and with a good modeling community and model base.

NetLogo streghths lies in how it makes agent-based simulation accessible. The model library is full of many research, education, or experimentation starting points. The system supports interactive experimentation with switches and sliders and graphical displays to immediately observe the effect of a parameter change. The system also provides integration with tools such as BehaviorSpace to batch-run and HubNet to work classroom participation.

**What do you dislike about NetLogo?**

Advanced users might find the language restrictive. The IDE feels a bit outdated, and its capabilities for debugging or profiling code are limited.

**What problems is NetLogo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NetLogo meets the challenge of modeling complex systems with many interacting agents through a user-friendly graphical interface. The software promotes the exploration of behaviors, rules, and dynamics that are hard to define mathematically. These have been especially useful in both research and education to allow for quick prototyping of simulations, testing of hypotheses, and visualization of emergent patterns. The ease of the interface reduces the amount of development time spent, and use of visual feedback increases understanding and communication of the complex processes.

 ### 2. A powerful & user-friendly programming environment for simulating social and physical systems

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laurence D. | PhD Student & REF Impact Researcher, Research

**Reviewed Date:** September 07, 2019

**What do you like best about NetLogo?**

Netlogo is both a development environment and a domain-specific programming language. The primitives and syntax of the language are tailored to the intended use: i.e. to create a series of autonomous 'elements' of a system (e.g. representing people or particles) and simulate their 'behaviour' within an environment. The language itself is highly intuitive and has a very straightforward syntax. Netlogo also includes a range of straightforward tools to create graphical displays showing the state of the simulation (and other outputs). This allows detailed inspection of the simulation during development and application (it also assists with debugging).

**What do you dislike about NetLogo?**

Certain activities involving probability distributions do not seem to have native support, such as cumulative density and inverse cumulative density functions (although these could be implemented manually by the user in various ways).

**Recommendations to others considering NetLogo:**

I would strongly recommend Netlogo as a starting point for social simulation because of its ease of use and its general recognition within the social simulation community,

**What problems is NetLogo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My use of Netlogo has focused primarily on modelling the behaviour of social groups under coordination incentives (incentives to make the same decision regarding a particular social action). Netlogo has allowed me to implement detailed models of this situation and to carefully inspect and explore them.

 ### 3. Modeling of natural and social simulation.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manel V. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2018

**What do you like best about NetLogo?**

I like its potential to discover and show the relationship between people's behavior in the microstate and the macrostate styles that arise from their interaction. And it is easy to use this tool for beginners. The granular degree of individuals and the macro patterns that emerge from such interactions. There are many things to love about this product, particularly the fact that it could seamlessly explore the connection between the micro-level behavior of individuals and the macro-level styles that rise up in their interaction. The best component of this software is the unbound supply and it can be implemented for any operating system.

**What do you dislike about NetLogo?**

Much fewer updates because the first model A The user interface becomes a bit difficult to understand The user interface is no longer very easy to understand

**Recommendations to others considering NetLogo:**

I have used it in a task to simulate movement results of a sample institution and not use dependencies. I have used it as an intern for the version of human behavior when noticing the decline within the commercial company of the company and the discount in profits versus the behavior while there may be an improvement in the profits of the staff and the company functions well. It is used to simulate the results for a collection of people who are unique from each other. I used it for the task discussion as a teaching assistant at UTA to see the behavior or the group of students who are attentive to elegance rather than the inattentive hubnet network used, a generation that used the Internet logo for the participation of the entire class to simulate results. movements is a set of humans.

**What problems is NetLogo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hubnet, an era that used the emblem of the Internet for magnificent participation, to simulate the effects of movements, a group of people. The design of the logo and the creation of the interface become very simple with this software. I carried out some examples of trends already present in the software. In fact, it was mainly used to simulate action effects of a group of patterns of people independent of each other. I use it to teach or present complex problems.

 ### 4. Modelling herbal and social simulation

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jimena P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2018

**What do you like best about NetLogo?**

Its potential to explore the relationship between the micro-level behavior of individuals and the macro-level patterns that emerge from their interaction. Among the many things I like, what intrigues me most is its capability to discover the relationship among the micro-level behavior of people. With a reasonably easy-to-use UI, this product allows exploration of the connection between the micro-level conduct of individuals and the macro-level patterns that emerge from their interaction. What I liked the most about this product was that it was able to discover the relationship between the micro-level behavior of individuals and the macro-level patterns that emerge from their interaction. It has extensive documentation and tutorials.

**What do you dislike about NetLogo?**

It takes time to recognize it. The interface of L.A. Persona was not very easy to implement. I think it's because many other products are already on the market, but the logic is still exploitable. There are very few updates since the first version. The user interface is not very easy to start with, and updates are much less compared to the initial version.

**Recommendations to others considering NetLogo:**

I have even used this device to create a website for a startup corporation, which is like an educational software program for kids. I have used it in a project to simulate the consequences of actions of a sample organization without dependencies. I used it for the mission discussion as a student assistant at UTA to study the behavior of students being attentive in class versus non-attentive. I have used this product to simulate the consequences of actions of a group of people who were independent of each other. Great tool to get in touch with coding and should be used with the multiple cards available online for assistance.

**What problems is NetLogo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it to mimic the effects of sports in a meeting of people who are open to each other. I used it to simulate the outcomes of actions of a group of individuals who are different. I have used this tool to create a website for a startup organization, which is like a teaching software for a children's startup earning venture. I have used it for virus detection on a network and collecting results on tcpdump, modified a version to use directed links instead of undirected links to stop the virus from spreading by emailing itself to everyone on the network. I have used it for virus detection on a network and gathering results on tcpdump, changed a version to apply directed links instead of undirected links to stop the virus from spreading by emailing itself to anyone on the network.
