## About Mist
Mist is an open source multicloud management platform. Our goal is to make multicloud simple and offer a single interface from where you can manage everything. Mist supports all popular infrastructure technologies including public clouds, private clouds, hypervisors, containers and bare metal servers. It provides a unified interface for performing common management tasks like provisioning, orchestration, monitoring, automation and cost analysis. It comes with a RESTful API and CLI so you can easily integrate it into your existing workflows. Our customers include large organizations like the European Parliament, Red Hat, National Bank of Greece, SevOne, Shoprite and more. Our customers report 40%-60% reductions in server bills and management overheads, four times faster roll outs and twice as fast incident response times. Mist comes in three editions. Mist Enterprise Edition (on-prem) is ideal for large teams with advanced needs around orchestration and access controls. Mist Hosted Service (SaaS) is easy to get started with and is ideal for highly dynamic infrastructures. Mist Community Edition is our open source version, for teams with a DIY approach.

## Mist Reviews
  ### 1. Very useful tool with excellent customer service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Mist?**

Excellent customer service & responsive leadership team, easy to setup, and supports many clouds

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

Would prefer a lower price, or a different pricing scheme. Per CPU can be expensive for cloud servers.

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mist enables support staff to manage cloud servers with fine grained permissions

  ### 2. Best platform to manage cloud services for multiple providers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Theo T. | Co-Founder & CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Mist?**

instant scale up to multi-cloud providers

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

Can't recall anything that I dislike....

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moving into the cloud is a time-consuming process. In our case, we needed to access services from different providers to take full advantage of the hardware for our architecture. We saved dozens of working days by using mist.io while the team was very responsive and helped us hands-on when we needed. Really good support!

  ### 3. Versatile and capable cloud orchestration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2021

**What do you like best about Mist?**

- Clear overview of my infrastructure
- I can make changes to my infrastructure with minimal effort
- Alerting has saved me several times from downtimes

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

- The notifications UI could use some polishing

**Recommendations to others considering Mist:**

Mist.io is a sophisticated product with diverse capabilities. Take your time exploring it's functionality. With a bit of searching, I was able to find most of the functionality I was looking for.

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm managing devops for a series of EU projects, where each projects has it's own requirements in terms of computing. Infrastructure needs to respond to applications ranging from machine learning to robotics and automation. Mist.io saves me a great deal of time due to the structured way in which I can manage and adapt infrastructure to the needs of the projects. It also saves my researcher colleagues and my organization time and helps reduce costs, as it allows automating the lifetime of computing infrastructure in a granular way.

  ### 4. Mist.io as a hybrid cloud - supporting HPC workflows

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron H. | HPC Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Mist?**

The "point and click" interface makes it simple for researchers to create a VM in the cloud or using on-premise resources without needing to know much about either. You can keep track of billing and usage for multiple clouds/resources in one place. The development team is responsive and open to feature requests.

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

Less frequently used cloud options such as OpenStack aren't as full-featured as popular options (AWS, etc).

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We run an HPC cluster and often get requests to run science gateways and workflow managers. HPC resources aren't designed for science gateways and workflow management tools - traditional cloud resources are. With mist.io, our users can spin up science gateway to manage their HPC workflow. We also want to give users the ability to burst their workload into the cloud when needed, and mist.io helps do that. Finally, mist.io is more approachable than some cloud resources.

  ### 5. Mist is a useful tool to have when you are managing a lot of machines.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Morne V. | Systems Engineer I, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Mist?**

As a company with many different teams, using Mist.IO, you can easily configure and set up machines per team to manage.

Whenever we require assistance from Mist support, the response is always speedy. They explain to you what must happen/ or why something is not working and they make sure that you understand why this happened. We've had nothing but good support from Mist.IO over the years.

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

We use Mist.IO alongside other tools as well. For the purposes that we are using Mist.IO, I can't think of anything that I dislike.

**Recommendations to others considering Mist:**

Mist.IO is a handy tool to have.

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Developers requiring servers to be switched on/off for testing purposes have control to do that easily. We, as Shoprite Mist.IO administrators, don't have to get involved as much.

  ### 6. Mist simplifies multicloud management in minutes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Market Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2021

**What do you like best about Mist?**

It's simple to use, but this simplicity doesn't come at the expense of powerful features supporting more advanced use cases. You can be up and running with your entire team in just a few minutes, without changing your existing workflows and without needing an 8-hour webinar to get things going.

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

User docs need some improvement, but support was helpful and responsive.

**Recommendations to others considering Mist:**

Mist is ideal for managing hybrid setups with multiple teams needing controlled access to specific subsets of it. You can give it a try and see for yourself in less than ten minutes.

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Mist to manage our infrastructure on-prem (VMware vSphere on bare metal) and on public clouds (AWS, Azure). Having to deal with 3 sets of tools and workflows was draining our energy and we moved slowly. Now, we have a unified experience across the board, deployments are more automated and a lot faster. Mist also saved us the headaches of enforcing policies for controlling costs. For example, we can automatically turn off VMs every night and/or clean up unused VMs periodically.

  ### 7. The perfect tool for management of both production and development cloud infrastructure

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 04, 2021

**What do you like best about Mist?**

Mist.io provides our team with a single unified interface to manage our cloud infrastructure across four different cloud providers. Thanks to mist.io, all our developers can provision & configure VMs across clouds at the click of a button, following fine-grained access rules and usage quotas. Machine usage & cost are automatically monitored, which in combination with other features like scheduled machine destruction, has enabled us to seriously cut down on infrastructure cost.

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

I'd really like to see deeper integration with Kubernetes.

**Recommendations to others considering Mist:**

This is a really great product with an extensive and diverse set of features. I highly recommend it. I think it's a must, especially if dealing with multiple clouds.

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mist.io brings many benefits, but for our team, the two most important are:
1. It provides us with a single unified interface across our multi-cloud and ever-evolving infrastructure. The amount of time and effort this saves can't be stressed enough.
2. Its extensive Role Based Access Control system, usage quotas, preconfigured scripts etc have enabled us to securely provide limited access to our multi-cloud infrastructure to our entire team through a unified and intuitive web app. This has been very helpful since it allows our team to self-serve their cloud computing needs according to access policies configured in mist.io without requiring the intervention of a sysadmin each time.

  ### 8. Great platform for our multicloud R&D infrastructure

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Mist?**

Onboarding is simple and in a few seconds you know what you have, where and how much it's costing you. It's also simple to use, even for non-experts. You can set up policies that allow everyone to safely provision resources, in a self-service way, within minutes

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

The CLI is not fully there. Needs further improvements

**Recommendations to others considering Mist:**

It's a user-friendly and powerful tool that allows you to manage multicloud infrastructure. It's ideal for enabling self-service provisioning. The barrier to entry is low. As you grow and look for more advanced workflows the tool can grow with you. Their support is very helpful.

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We manage our research lab infrastructure across public and private clouds from one panel. Our team members can quickly provision resources in a controlled way. We don't worry about surprises at the end of billing cycles. The tool has helped us reduce public cloud bills by ~30% thanks to the various automations it offers.

  ### 9. Single pane of glass for hypervisor management with great support!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel H. | Senior Network Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2021

**What do you like best about Mist?**

VCenter like experience for KVM with support for hybrid cloud environment .

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

Hypervisor management could be a little more robust. Would like to see available security updates for installed packages, and log management of hypervisor /var/log files so they can be viewed and included in machine rules. Finally, from a formatting standpoint it would be nice to have a hierarchial view of machine -> parent -> cloud relationships.

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easing our transition from VMWare Hypervisors to KVM while having the option to include cloud resources.

  ### 10. The best multi-cloud management platform out there

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Spyridon T. | DevOps Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Mist?**

Easy to onboard and use, great support, RBAC on all resources.

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

I would like to see support for managing K8s clusters

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time-saver. Provision machines within 1 minute across various providers. Managed to keep cost under control. RBAC is also a feature I really like, as I do not have to create policies across various providers

  ### 11. Great tool to get control of your mixed cloud resources

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matteo R. | System Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Mist?**

easy to add cloud accounts and instances

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

user permission management is not enough granular

**Recommendations to others considering Mist:**

Very helpful tool to manage every resource in your cloud, through one single panel. You will be able to see costs, hardware status, and also i.e. reboot every instance deployed and added to Mist.
If you plan to use it on premise, take care about security access and users policies.

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we can manage in the same place, every cloud resource we have, from Google Cloud, to AWS or OVH

**Official Response from Chris Psaltis:**

> All our commercial versions (SaaS and on-prem) include fine-grained role-based access controls. They also include support for authentication with MS 365, MS Active Directory and LDAP.

You can find more info about these at https://docs.mist.io/category/125-role-based-access-control.

Our open source Community Edition, doesn't include RBAC.

  ### 12. Essential Multi Cloud Management Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Mist?**

Supports more than just the mainstream cloud vendors.

**What do you dislike about Mist?**

Inherant with any docker based application - but sometimes the app will need a restart due to some undefined issues.

**What problems is Mist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The platform provides management and visibility of multi-cloud environments. Mistio enables full coverage of all assets regardless of cloud provider, with its support for many of the VPS providers.
