Media Cloud has made my workflow much more streamlined in several crucial areas. First of all, it’s meant that when I receive a brief from a project manager, he/she has already made a collection of the footage they believe to be relevant -- making it much easier for me to know what b-roll to implement. This has naturally saved me a lot of time and energy; no longer do I have to spend hours going through footage. My favourite aspect of Media Cloud is the fact that all the legacy source footage can be tagged and made easily searchable. If I need a shot of a certain product in a certain setting, I can put in the relevant search terms and locate it super quickly. It feels very intuitive and for me it has become an essential part of building a narrative. Ultimately, it’s a huge time-saver for anyone working with videos commercially. This has mostly occurred if the clip in question has a large file size. But given that this process is happening in the background, it really doesn’t bother me much. The fact that any footage can be found and accessed so quickly makes the whole process of creating videos much more streamlined. Instead of messing around with paper forms, I can just use a QR code to collect and store consent during shoots. It’s quick, simple, and makes sure I stay compliant—especially when working with big clients who need everything documented properly. I don’t have to stress about paperwork anymore, which lets me focus on actually creating content. Another huge plus is how easy it is to find my footage. The batch upload and tagging system means I don’t have to dig through a mess of folders or external drives. I can just search for what I need and find it in seconds. It’s also great for reusing B-roll, which has saved me hours of editing time every week. The only thing I’d like to see improved is support for still images. MC does have a Youtube channel with tutorials but it would be helpful to have even more onboarding live to get us going quickly. That said, the support team has been very responsive and once you know how it works – it´s really simple. Just a completely new way of working compared to paper based release forms.
