The financial portion let's people see accurate cloud spend with the ability to take action when spend reaches budgetary limits. The compliance portion lets you manage cloud security according to multiple industry baselines. With Cloud Rules and Cloud Roles, user accounts and CSP accounts can have tailor-made configurations. Updates to those rules and roles will be propogated to every applicable user and CSP account automatically. In addition, the Kion documentation and customer service is excellent. The documentation can intuitively walk you through every function of Kion complete with pictures. Every question or trouble ticket has been answered promptly and they stick with you until things are working again. Finally, Kion is deployed entirely through Infrastructure as Code, so changes to things are as simple as updating a Cloudformation and the code will make changes and redeploy assets as needed. **What do you dislike about Kion?** I've been a user of Kion nearly as long as I have been working in the cloud. Kion makes working in the cloud so much easier that trying to do things without it seems tedious. **What problems is Kion solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Kion in the AWS Secret Region which has far fewer services available versus GovCloud and Commercial. Kion lets us fill most of the gaps for those missing services and usually easier the the native services themselves. ### 2. The took us through step-by-step. We held scheduled mettings, training etc. This time was insrumental in our KION development as well as delivering to our key stkeholders as well as governance, cyber etc. **What do you dislike about Kion?** I cannot think of any interaction or part of the KION tool that I dislike. **What problems is Kion solving and how is that benefiting you?** The foremost problem solved was complinace for all of our cloud products, once we wrangles that we jumped into the automation that made our lives easier and delevered our compliance reequired reporting. We started to see a lot more reqeusts for cloud usage and with KION we were poised to take these projects on with the compliance and gevernance requiremetns as well as the fincance/budget needs. ### 3. Unlike other cloud management platforms, it doesn't include lock-in or upfront payments, which is quite convenient for us. It offers extensive support to all three cloud service providers (AWS, Azure & GCP) for reducing cloud expenditures & reserved instance management. From its Dashboard, we can gain clear visibility of the infrastructure across different environments about our instances & disk utilization. **What do you dislike about Kion?** Going on with the Kion platform is almost free of risk & we can opt out of their services if we are unsatisfied. We don't have to do anything much to get it running as Kion takes care of the underlying infrastructure & its renewals. Since our AWS infrastructure is dynamic, we have to run large workloads & Kion aids us in having a better understanding & significant cost savings. **What problems is Kion solving and how is that benefiting you?** Kion effectively prevents the tricky situation of cost overruns in our cloud platforms. It helps with suitable cost-optimizing recommendations that enable us to identify potential opportunities to enforce our budget & save money. Kion scans through our cloud environments accurately for over-provisioned and inactive resources & brings them to our attention. We can further dig in to evaluate the dependencies & handle decommission activities if it's not needed for our infrastructure. Its customer support is very professional for onboarding on with their platform & it uses CloudFormation templates to perform hassle-free deployments in our AWS platform. We can also generate cost-centric reports from the Kion platform to help visualize our financial management, budget constrains & suitable remediation strategies. ### 4. I like the menus and the panel to see the cloud and that I can easily send information in the cloud. Encamp is the largest third-party filer of EPCRA Tier II reports. These reports, mandated by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), legally require companies that store hazardous materials to submit an annual Tier II report. For each of those reports filed through Encamp, the company donates a tree to nonprofit organizations such as One Tree Planted, helping sequester carbon from the atmosphere and promote human and environmental health. **What do you dislike about Kion?** As this is being a start-up, looking forward to see what features will they bring **What problems is Kion solving and how is that benefiting you?** “In our early days, many team members had high-level privileges, because we needed to move very, very quickly. But this starts becoming scary when you add more folks. So, we had this need to start building out a hierarchy of our organizational accounts within AWS. One of our initiatives was being more sophisticated about how we set up our organization in AWS and then controlling access to those environments. This included keeping track of configuration across accounts and making sure these accounts were configured consistently for our purposes. The controls that we can use via CloudRules and RBAC Roles help us limit access when needed, and also add important CloudFormation templates to our AWS environments. I also love the ease of integration between our Active Directory and how we can use security groups in AD to control access in Kion. **What do you dislike about Kion?** I have found that navigating through the 'Organization' tab can be sometimes cumbersome and it is not always easy to find an account or OU that you are searching for. Even with the search bar on the left, clicking on a Parent OU won't reveal all of the accounts as there may be another OU layer between Parent OU and accounts. **What problems is Kion solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our most important need is to control access to our customers for their environments and allowing engineers with different roles to have different levels of access. Kion helps us accomplish this task seamlessly and even allows us to create customized roles when necessary to provide flexibility to our customers. ### 10. Having one "single pane of glass" for GCP, AWS and Azure is incredible and Kion does it the right way. **What do you dislike about Kion?** Kion has a steep learning curve, and while it takes some time to get to understand the nuances of the product, once you think you get through the curve, they release new features that you have to learn (not that new features is a bad thing). **What problems is Kion solving and how is that benefiting you?** Kion has provided me with the ability to manage federation into all of the CSPs, Compliance scanning for all CSPs, Budgeting and Forecasting for all CSPs, and because of this we can manage what would have normally taken 4 other tools in one place. ### 11. The platform itself also provides an easy way to view costs and deploy these 'cloud rules'. **What do you dislike about Kion?** Being one of the larger customers, we run into issues and bugs others do not. Examples are our users generating extra entries that clogs api requests and our cloud rules having issues deploying. **What problems is Kion solving and how is that benefiting you?** Allowing our users to easily access their accounts and for us to easily deploy accounts in minutes. My managers can let me view the proper accounts that I'm supposed to have access to. My managers like the ability to quickly send cloudformation scripts to new accounts to comply for compliance. **What do you dislike about Kion?** The billing options seem very useful, but it never feels like it's up-to-date. I always have to go back to the AWS billing console to be absolutely sure that the stuff on screen is the right information. When using credits to pay for accounts, the billing info just doesn't show up (it says I spent 0% of a planned 10,000). Perhaps this is due to misconfiguration, but I don't feel like I can trust it as a source of truth when it comes to billing. The API is also confusing, lacking in features that also should be there (why can I create a billing account/source?) and changes very often, making it unreliable. **Recommendations to others considering Kion:** See how it compares to using Amazon SSO. **What problems is Kion solving and how is that benefiting you?** Being able to manage a bunch of accounts at once. We have an account that manages important DNS, we have accounts for specific projects, and we have our own dev accounts. It would be a nightmare if I needed to manage these credentials manually. ### 17. I am still very junior to Kion but I can see it being very useful across multiple clouds, Azure, AWS and Google. AWS IAM sounds like the best piece of Kion. **What do you dislike about Kion?** It's a little difficult to configure.
