## HashiCorp Consul Reviews
  ### 1. Consul: Best in class service discovery

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deepak C. | Senior Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2021

**What do you like best about HashiCorp Consul?**

Hasicorp does everything right in terms of SaaS products, and consul is also on the same path. This is one of the best, if not the best service discovery tool out there. The main benefit of consul is that, it can be used in polyglot architecture as well which is not bound to any specific language.

**What do you dislike about HashiCorp Consul?**

Although consul is best for polyglot architecture, but it's SDK for java is a little hard to understand, also auto discovery is not as good as Eureka. UI could have been a little better for consul

**What problems is HashiCorp Consul solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Well, in microservices architecture we all have to use some kind of service discovery so that load balancing can happen. In our project we are serving multimillion traffic through this consul. It's UI should have been a little better. But seeing the polyglot support nullifies the UI downside

  ### 2. Using consul as part of container service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2022

**What do you like best about HashiCorp Consul?**

I admire that Consul is relatively easy to operate. It is compliant with cloud-native standards which helps to integrate it. The best is that it can be seamlessly used with other Hashicorp stacks like Nomad and Vault. The essential documentation and tutorials are for all Hashicorp products sufficient.

**What do you dislike about HashiCorp Consul?**

I miss the documentation for fine-tuning and guidelines with troubleshooting scenarios. The REST API's of the consul are sometimes a bit inconsistent. I would like to see more docs/blogs regarding operation.

**What problems is HashiCorp Consul solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Consul for keeping clusters of Docker nodes discoverable and observable. In addition we are using Consul together with nomad. In addition Consul kv store is used as storage for Vault.

  ### 3. Yet easiest service i know

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Donatas F. | IT Systems Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2019

**What do you like best about HashiCorp Consul?**

Just from the start i noticed it is a small in size, but massive in capabilities application. Simple deployment allows to save tons of time, ease management saves daily costs of configuration and management. When it comes to upgrades or updates - It is always just a few steps which are clearly written in upgrade paths. Practical, detailed and useful knowledge base with simple examples pointing right to the problem resolution. New features are just mind-blowing and straightforward, allows to solve more and more daily problems Additionally i am happy to notice plenty of users around the world who are sharing their experience.

**What do you dislike about HashiCorp Consul?**

nothing to mention in particular. Major changes might seem very harsh before upgrade, but in the end it is just few additional steps.

**Recommendations to others considering HashiCorp Consul:**

Do not consider, just try and it will make life easier not only for yourself as it, but others in company as well

I am solving the problem of centralization configuration management in my organization. Right now we do not have any solution for centrally maintaining configurations for a application distributed on multiple cloud providers and on premise. ### 13. Great Distributed Service Mesh for Modern Programming

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Business Supplies and Equipment | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2019

**What do you like best about HashiCorp Consul?**

My favorite features of Consul is its Service Discovery and Distributed Configuration. As an application developer, having such a seamless service discovery tool allows me to focus on the business logic of my code rather than which instance of a server I need to interface with. The Key/Value configuration is also amazing for feature flags in my applications, as well as common config that multiple server instances need to share. The integration of Consul with Spring Boot is also a great plus, as it makes application development even easier.

**What do you dislike about HashiCorp Consul?**

None so far. Keep on adding more helpful features to the Admin UI.

**What problems is HashiCorp Consul solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using the Distributed Key/Value configuration, we are able to change properties on the fly that our applications use for business logic/rules. By not needing to write new code and deploy new instances of our applications, the customer experience is not interrupted.
