### 6. Google Cloud Persistent Disk Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

Google Cloud Persistent Disk is attached to Google compute instances easily and provides very good performance as on-prem physical server disks. It is also easy to backup and deletes as needed.

It has different performance levels and can be selected based on the requirement.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

Should have more ways to connect and export data. Encryption can be better, and attaching the same disk to multiple instances without file store should be allowed.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Persistent Disk:**

It should be considered if looking for very high performance.

**What problems is Google Cloud Persistent Disk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are improving application performance using Google Cloud Persistent Disk.

I am taking snapshots for an offline backup solution and moving them to cloud storage for archival and governance purposes.

 ### 7. Classic Storage App

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarthak Singh G. | Business Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

Being a durable and regular cloud storage platform. It provides a great set of features which one would like the most, being -

1) Smooth Restore and Backup facility - It provides very good and reliable storage for backup. Moreover, the restore facility provided helps anyone to be assured that their data is stored at a reliable place.

2) Self-Dependent Volumes - Each virtual machine instance is hosts independent disks and hence, it provides easy management of data.

3) Data Security with Encryption - The automatic encryption provided by google cloud persistent disk helps in securing data. You can even manually set the keys, as well as automatic encryption will provide a set of keys for enhancing the security layer.

4) Reliability and Durability - It provides redundant data storage which makes the data more durable.

5) Cloning - Disk cloning is something that comes out to be a very handy tool. It creates new disks for backup verification and data export jobs.

6) Creation of Snapshots - Snapshots come out to be very easy in the case of regional and zonal persistence.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

I don't specifically dislike anything about the google cloud storage persistent app. The tutorials come out to be very handy as well.

**What problems is Google Cloud Persistent Disk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Google Cloud Persistent Disk is a very durable tool for storage. The features including data security, reliability, zonal and region-based replication which provides full control of your storage. Moreover, the easy management of disks and independent volumes helps in scaling up and down your application as per the user's needs.

 ### 8. Great storage

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ayush U. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

The persistent storage provides a set of features that helps in fulfilling all your needs.
1. Independent volumes are provided through independent disks. You can easily manage your disks and hence manage all of them as you need.
2. Durability: The storage provided is very durable because of the redundant storage facility.
3. Data security: Data is very secure because of the encryption layer. The plain data is encrypted using a set of keys that can be provided manually or automatically generated.
4. Backup facility provided using snapshots and geo-replication. This helps in restoring data in case of unexpected data loss or failure of servers holding data. Moreover, the speed of backup is quite fast. Hence, you can backup your data whenever possible in a few seconds or minutes.
5. Images for configuration: You can use a machine image to take care of all the metadata and configuration. This also helps in handling permissions and data from one or more VM instances.
6. Performance: Google cloud persistent storage provides a great performance like SSD and HDD.
7. Resizable disks: The disks can be resized as per the requirements. This provides flexibility in the management of data. Moreover, this also gets very useful when you require scaling your storage in case of higher demands and needs. Thus, you don't need to go and buy a new disk as it used to be in the old times. You just can resize your disks in minutes without any extra efforts and this heps in taking care of your business logic as well.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

There is nothing specific about Google cloud persistent disk that I dislike. The performance can be still better and it is getting better no doubt. So I am happy using this product.

**What problems is Google Cloud Persistent Disk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Google cloud persistent disk to store my data, create backups using geo-replication. Geo-replication is something that I like the most because there can be multiple backups created in different parts of the world. Moreover, it's very easy to scale your application if you have such storage facilities available.

 ### 9. Simple, reliable storage mechanism for VMs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew S. | Cloud Architect & Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

It really is as simple as one could expect, and haven't had a single issue with reliability. I like the deep integration into various Google Cloud Platform products, such as Kubernetes.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

I wish regional disks could be attributed to more zones, or that there was a quicker way to validate files on disk rather than attaching it to an instance and SSHing into it. I also wish there was the capability to set usage alerts, e.g. when at 85%, send an alert prior to scaling storage up.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Persistent Disk:**

Choose regional disks if possible when working in regional Kubernetes clusters -- you can choose up to two zones.

**What problems is Google Cloud Persistent Disk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Operating regional MongoDB within Kubernetes clusters via persistent disk and StatefulSet
- Providing responsive data storage for large dataset workloads directly attached to the VM instance

 ### 10. Reliable with great scalability

**Reviewed by:** Angelo Jesse L. | Lead Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

Easily deployable, high scalability and superb integration with other Google products.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

Not as fast as local SSD. I honestly doesn't have any negative issues with Google's persistent disks.

**What problems is Google Cloud Persistent Disk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're currently use this for MariaDB databases that needs high scalability.

 ### 11. Google Persistent Disks perform as expected

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

They have been reliable thus far and have pretty decent performance characteristics. You can mount multiple disks and resize live and mount a single disk read-only onto multiple servers

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Persistent Disk?**

Nothing so far. The ideal feature would be a network disk type setup where you could have multiple read write servers but then it would basically be a network file system and need some sort of conflict resolution and isn't possible with current tech while retaining the same performance characteristics.

**What problems is Google Cloud Persistent Disk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Persistent SSD and HDD storage for application servers
