**What do you like best about Gen-2 by Runway?**

What I like most is the simple interface and the speed of generation. It helps me create video ideas much faster than traditional editing tools. It’s also great for brainstorming and my real estate video shoots, because it gives creative results I can use as a starting point. This makes it useful for creators, teams, and anyone who wants to make videos without spending too much time or money.

**What do you dislike about Gen-2 by Runway?**

What I dislike is that the results are not always perfect or fully accurate to the prompt. Sometimes I need to generate the video more than once to get a better result. Some outputs also need extra editing before they’re ready to use. Because of this, it can take some trial and error to get the best quality.

Runway Gen-2 solves the problem of slow and difficult video creation. The video quality is excellent and the results feel realistic.
Image-to-video is one of my favorite features.
There are many AI models available in one place.
It helps me create professional-looking visuals for job postings and recruitment posts.
The third-party integrations make it easy to use Runway with other tools.
It makes creating content much faster

It's expensive, if you have lots of work to do better by unlimited plan because limited plan have some restricted features. Some generations still have visual artifacts, especially with hands, faces, or complex movements.
The interface can feel overwhelming at first because there are so many models and tools available.
Keeping characters consistent across multiple scenes can still be difficult.

**What do you like best about Gen-2 by Runway?**

What I like best about Gen-2 is how easily it turns text and images into short videos. I can describe an idea or upload an image and quickly create a video without needing advanced video editing skills. It is useful for trying different creative ideas, creating visuals for presentations, and making simple video content much faster.

**What do you dislike about Gen-2 by Runway?**

One thing I don't like about Gen-2 is that the video results are not always consistent. Sometimes the movement or small details can look unnatural, especially with more complex prompts. It can also take a few attempts to get the exact result I want. I would like more control over motion and better consistency in generated videos.

Before using Gen-2, creating short videos from ideas or images required more editing work and sometimes other video tools. **What do you like best about Gen-2 by Runway?**

The ease of use and the range of options made my project feel straightforward. I also like the styling of the dashboard. You simply enter your input and get your result. On top of that, the Director Mode is really helpful: replacing vague prompts like "cinematic camera move" with explicit velocity controls removes a lot of guesswork and cuts down the number of generation attempts I need to get usable b-roll. I also appreciate the image-to-video conversion and the consistency it provides for pre-production, since it can turn static pitch decks into animated storyboards in an afternoon instead of taking days.

**What do you dislike about Gen-2 by Runway?**

The visibility of features is confusing. Even when the app is free, it still prevents you from opting into several basic, important options at the start. Sometimes it doesn’t feel as integrated with AI as other platforms are. Gen-2 also struggles with realistic motion and physics: human movements can look unnatural, with occasional flickering and body distortions, and objects sometimes appear to float instead of interacting naturally with the environment.

Gen 2 by Runway has optimized my cost of content creation. To get output that looks like it was shot on high-end camera gear, I used to think expensive equipment was required, but with Gen 2 by Runway it isn’t. The live testing environment on this platform also helps me solve a lot of things during post-production. Because of that, I don’t need to compromise on content quality. Even 3D and complex rendering feels like an easy game with this platform. You just need to put in your concepts and get the visuals from it, and that is unrealistically amazing.

Runway is changing the way creators work. It’s a platform packed with AI-powered tools that remove a lot of the grunt work from the creative process, so artists, designers, and developers can tap into machine learning without needing a computer science degree. The interface is refreshingly simple, and you don’t have to be technical to get up and running.

What makes Runway stand out is how smoothly it fits into an existing workflow instead of disrupting it. It helps you build things that would’ve taken hours in far less time, experiment with ideas you might not have tried otherwise, and push your creative work in directions that didn’t really feel possible before.

**What do you dislike about Gen-2 by Runway?**

Steep Credit Burn: At roughly 50 credits per 5-second generation, the ~$30/month Pro tier tops out at about 45 total clips. If you publish regularly, that runs out quickly, and flat-rate options like Kling AI offer much better mileage.

Strict Length Limits: Clip durations fall well short of current industry benchmarks (Sora 2 offers 20s, Veo 3.1 does 60s, and Kling AI stretches to 2 minutes). Having to piece together lots of tiny clips adds extra post-production friction and drains your remaining balance twice as fast.

gen-2 provides rapid video generation compared with the normal ranway. it is mainly excels in image to video generation. i like how it can convert the normal photo into a short video by animating it.

i sometimes fails on generating complex human motions and facial features consistantly, also because of the 4 sec clip limit also need to generate the multiples videos and then connect them.

it increases the speed need to create the animated video , if i need to create the video for myself i needed to do create the model first then animate it and then set the motion , but with the help of gen-2 runway i can animate it directly. it performance is very well when we give it clear instruction and with proper guidance it generates great clips.

**What do you like best about Gen-2 by Runway?**

Runway is such an amazing tool to leverage one's creativity. There are a whole lot of options to create, like ADs, movies, short videos, images, and so much more. We can even create a workflow. There are many agents with different capabilities to generate from according to our requirements. After giving a prompt, it confirms what output is preferred and then generates based on our approval. This is a great feature. It allows edits and understands them to a great extent.

Nothing much to dislike. It takes a while to be thorough with the tool.

**What do you like best about Gen-2 by Runway?**

I was most fascinated with Gen-2 when I wanted to explore motion direction without having to manually animate everything from scratch in After Effects. Instead of animating by hand, I could take pretty much any image or visual reference and generate a quick hypothesis of what that might look like as a 5-10 second video clip. It allowed me to quickly prototype mood videos, social media concepts, presentation graphics and general creative brainstorming.

**What do you dislike about Gen-2 by Runway?**

Expect some odd results when there are complicated fonts, faces or intricate movements involved in the source scene. I would often have to generate 2-3 different scenes before getting a usable result. Also lacks the granularity of frame-by-frame adjustments that you get with standard animation software

**What problems is Gen-2 by Runway solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to see your static concepts in motion so quickly really closed the feedback loop. Rather than having to spend hours crafting a full animation just to test a concept, I could mockup simple visuals and see if an idea was worth pursuing or not. Has been great for coming up with motion directions to show clients before sinking hours of production time.

What I like most about Gen-2 is how quickly it turns an idea into something you can actually watch. The image-to-video workflow is really straightforward, so I can test creative concepts without spending hours editing everything manually.It also feels beginner-friendly, which makes it easy to jump in even if you're new to AI video tools. It's not perfect every time, but for rapid creative experimentation, it's one of the more enjoyable tools I've used.

My biggest frustration is that the results aren't always consistent. **What do you like best about Gen-2 by Runway?**

One thing to state upfront: this is a retrospective review. I worked with Runway's Gen-2 model intensively from mid 2023 through most of 2024, and the platform has since moved on to Gen-3 Alpha and the Gen-4 family as its flagship models. I am writing about Gen-2 deliberately, because that stretch of time is when AI video went from a curiosity I demoed at meetings to a tool with a fixed place in my production process, and I think the record of what that model actually delivered deserves to be written down accurately rather than flattened by everything that came after.
 
Image-to-video was the mode I ended up trusting most, and it carried the bulk of my real work. Text-to-video got the headlines, but feeding Gen-2 a strong still, whether a Midjourney render, a product photo, or a frame pulled from a client's existing brand library, produced results that were consistently closer to usable than anything I could get from a prompt alone. The still locked the composition, the lighting, and the subject, and Gen-2 only had to solve for motion. That division of labor was the single most important thing I learned about the model, and once I reorganized my workflow around it, my hit rate on first generations went up noticeably. Most of the clips that actually shipped to clients started life as a curated image, not a paragraph of prompt text.
 
Motion Brush changed what the tool was for me when it arrived in late 2023. Before it, motion was something Gen-2 decided and I accepted or regenerated. After it, I could paint the exact region of a still I wanted to move, pick a direction, set an intensity value, and leave the rest of the frame alone. Steam rising off a coffee cup while the cafe behind it stays put, water moving under a static pier, hair lifting in wind on an otherwise locked portrait. The Multi Motion Brush update that followed pushed this further by letting me paint several independent areas, each with its own direction and strength, which is the point where the output stopped feeling like a slot machine and started feeling like something I was directing. I kept my brush intensity values low, usually under 4, because pushing them higher was the fastest way to tear the image apart.
 
Director Mode deserves its own mention. Camera movement in Gen-2 was not a vague style instruction, it was a panel with pans, tilts, and zooms that accepted fractional intensity values, so a 0.5 slow push-in was an actual setting rather than a hope. The detail I appreciated most was that previewing a camera path cost nothing. I could test the move on the composition before committing credits to a generation, which in a credit-metered tool is exactly the kind of design decision that respects the person paying.
 
The Extend feature made the 4 second base clip workable for real deliverables. Chaining extensions took a clip out to roughly 16 seconds, which covered the length of most social placements I was cutting for. Coherence softened the further an extension got from the source frames, so my habit became extending once, rarely twice, and cutting on the strong section. Used that way it was dependable.
 
The style presets were more useful than I expected them to be. Instead of engineering an aesthetic through prompt vocabulary, I could pick from a curated set and get a consistent look across a batch of generations. The ones that earned regular use in my work:
 
- Cinematic, which became my default for client-facing concept clips
- Claymation and anime, for pitches where the deliberately synthetic look was the point
- Isometric 3D, which turned out to be a surprisingly good fit for product explainers
 
The Stylization mode sat a little outside my core workflow but solved a specific problem well: upload a source video and a style image, and the aesthetic of the image gets carried across every frame of the footage. I used it a handful of times to unify mixed-source footage under one look for a mood film, and it did the job without a compositing session.
 
What kept me inside Runway rather than treating Gen-2 as an isolated generator was the toolkit around it. Green screen rotoscoping, inpainting to remove an object from a shot, frame interpolation to smooth motion, all in the same browser workspace where the generations landed. A clip could go from generated to cleaned up to exported without leaving the tab, and for a small team without a dedicated VFX seat, that mattered as much as the model itself.
 
The combined image plus text mode sat between the two pure inputs and became my tool for the awkward middle cases. When a still carried the right composition but the wrong energy, a short prompt on top of it steered the motion without disturbing what the image already had locked in. A static storefront photo plus "light evening rain, warm window glow" got me an establishing shot that neither input would have produced alone. It took some trial and error to learn how much text the mode would respect before it started fighting the image, and the answer was less than I initially assumed, but once calibrated it filled a real gap.
 
Seed control is a small feature that earned its place. Fixing the seed while iterating on a prompt meant I was comparing the effect of my changes rather than rolling an entirely new scene each time, and that alone saved a meaningful amount of credit spend during exploration.

**What do you dislike about Gen-2 by Runway?**

The credit economics of Gen-2 were the part I made peace with rather than liked. Generation cost was metered per second of output, a failed generation cost exactly the same as a good one, and there was no way to preview the actual result before spending. On a model whose outputs were genuinely unpredictable, that combination stung. I had sessions where a stubborn scene ate through credits producing variations of the same wrong answer, and the only defenses were discipline and workflow: strong input images, low motion values, fixed seeds, and a personal rule to stop and rethink the input after two failures instead of regenerating a third time. Those habits worked, but they were habits I built because the pricing model gave me no safety net.
 
Anatomy and morphing artifacts were the model's most visible weakness. Faces drifted, hands were a lottery, and any subject pushed with too much motion would start to warp in ways that no amount of prompting could fully prevent. Human subjects in anything closer than a medium shot were mostly off the table for client work, which shaped what I even attempted. I learned to build concepts around environments, objects, and abstract motion, where Gen-2 was strong, and to treat people as something the model was not yet ready for. Extended clips made all of this worse, since coherence degraded with each extension past the original segment.
 
Prompt adherence was inconsistent in a way that was hard to predict. Some prompts landed on the first try, others were ignored in part no matter how I rephrased them, and the 320 character prompt limit meant there was a hard ceiling on how much specification I could even attempt. The gap between what I described and what I received was the daily texture of using the model, and closing it was more craft and superstition than method.
 
Resolution and output gating narrowed what the raw generations were good for. Base resolution was modest, fine for a phone screen and rough for anything larger, and both the upscaler and watermark removal sat behind the paid tiers. The paid plan was the honest cost of using Gen-2 professionally, and I have no real complaint about paying it, but the free tier was a demo rather than a working option, which is worth knowing going in.
 
Consistency across separate generations simply did not exist. Every clip was its own self-contained universe, so a recurring character or a persistent location across a sequence of shots was not something the model could do, and seeds only papered over this within narrow limits. For narrative work this was the wall, and it is precisely the wall the later model generations were built to break. In hindsight the limitation reads less like a flaw and more like the frontier of that moment, but living with it meant designing every project as a collection of disconnected moments rather than a continuous story.

The core problem Gen-2 solved for me was the cost of showing motion before committing to producing it. Previsualization used to mean static storyboards, stock footage stand-ins, or asking a client to imagine the movement while looking at stills. None of those communicate what a moving image actually feels like. With Gen-2 I could put an actual moving version of the concept in front of a client within an hour of the idea existing, and the conversation changed shape. People react to motion honestly and immediately in a way they never quite manage with a storyboard frame, so approvals got faster and misunderstandings surfaced earlier, when they were still cheap to fix.
 
Pitching became a different exercise. Before, a concept deck for a campaign was slides and reference images pulled from other people's work, with all the awkwardness of showing a client someone else's footage as a proxy for your idea. After, the deck contained short generated clips of the actual concept, in the intended style, with the intended mood. The clips were not final assets and nobody pretended they were, but the difference between "imagine something like this reference" and "here is a rough moving version of the thing itself" won work. That is the plainest business benefit I can point to from the entire Gen-2 period.
 
A large amount of static material in my archive became animatable. Product shots, brand imagery, illustration assets that clients had already paid for, all of it could be fed into image-to-video and given a second life as motion content. A still that had run its course as a social post came back as a five second clip with drifting light and a slow push-in. The before-state was that motion content required a shoot or an animator. The after-state was that a meaningful slice of it required neither.
 
Social content experimentation stopped being rationed. When every piece of motion content has production cost attached, you test only the ideas you are already confident in, which is a quiet way of never learning anything. Generating variations cheaply meant I could put three visual directions into the world, watch what performed, and invest properly in the winner. The value was not any individual clip, it was the volume of small bets the tool made affordable.
 
Mood films and atmosphere pieces went from unaffordable to routine. The kind of abstract, texture-driven motion content that sets tone for a brand page or opens a presentation used to be exactly the work that never justified its budget. Gen-2 was strongest precisely there, in environments and abstract movement where its weaknesses with anatomy never came into play, so the lowest-stakes category of video became the one it handled best. A category of deliverable I used to talk clients out of became one I could offer by default.
 
It also compressed the distance between a creative brief and something reviewable internally. The old rhythm was that an idea discussed on Monday became visible material toward the end of the week, after someone found references or roughed out an animatic. During the Gen-2 period the same idea usually had two or three moving drafts by Monday afternoon, which meant weak directions died the same day they were proposed instead of consuming half a week of goodwill first. The team argued about actual footage rather than about descriptions of footage, and those arguments were shorter and better.
 
The lasting benefit, and the reason I am writing this retrospective at all, is that the Gen-2 period built the capability my studio still runs on. Prompt construction, input image curation, motion value discipline, credit budgeting, knowing when to stop regenerating and change the input instead. Every one of those habits transferred directly onto the newer models when they arrived, and the team that had spent a year inside Gen-2 was productive on its successors from the first week. The model itself has been superseded, and rightly so. The workflow it taught us is the part that stayed.

The best thing I like about this Gen-2 by Runway platform is there a video generation quality is very much impressive, especially for text to video and image to video workflows their platform offers an intuitive interface, faster rending and excellent motion consistency, also their background removal in painting and motion tracking along with their various AI editing tools which is present all in a single workspace makes this platform very much likeable and effective.

Their credit base pricing is a bit expensive for users who are generating multiple iterations and specifically during the experimentation phase. Though their output quality is generally excellent but some of their complex prompt may require several attempts to achieve the desired result, and more predictable credit consumption and finer editing controls would improve the overall platform experience. Their user interface should be more intuitive and polished, along with their 3rd party integration tool as well.

The image to video capability is genuinely impressive for Runway's Gen-2 model both user flow and intelligence wise, I can simply take a single still or get cinematic motion out of it through minimal and simple prompting. The video performance is also considerably well compared with other players in the market, proving you a well above average ROI. The onboarding journey and the ability to use the output with a lot of different tools is very smooth and simple.

The biggest concern with Gen-2, like with any other Video generation tool, is the output consistency through the same input. The same input can sometimes give you a great result but when retried, it can turn out to be mediocre. Plus character and anatomical accuracy and consistency can be an issue at times.

What I like best about Gen-2 by Runway is how approachable it makes AI video generation without feeling overly technical. From UI/UX perspective, the interface feels clean and surprisingly intuitive for a tool doing something so advanced. I liked that prompting, image-to-video generation, and style controls are organized in a way that doesn't overwhelm you, which is rare in creative AI tools. Pricing is on par with other similar tools, but performance and output is much better value for the price.
