FIMS allows our Community Foundation staff to efficiently manage funds, payments, grants, and donations in one easy-to-navigate platform. You can easily create your own coding based off your organization's policies, rather than fitting your own into another system, and it's incredibly unlikely that you will 'grow out' of the system. One of the most useful tools for onboarding is the Test and Learn database where you can login and practice using the software without making permanent changes, which is helpful when learning how to open funds, add gifts or grants, and see how the coding works. You are also able to import information via Excel spreadsheets or CSV files, which is helpful when updating grant information, contacts, or donor info.
FIMS has the appearance and operating feel of a software that hasn't been updated in decades, and getting quick and effective tech support for this product has been inconsistent quality as of late. The cost per license can be quite an investment, however the services provided are unavailable in any other product at the level FIMS provides currently.
If you are considering FIMS, know that there are many nuances in learning how to properly use the software. Recognize that you will need to spend a lot of time and resources to train your staff and develop your own coding systems.
It is a one-stop-shop for each crucial department of our organization. All of our financial, grantee, vendor, and donor information is kept in this one system that is able to combine the data in easily-read reports. When your entire staff is using only one software to manage the information that FIMS does, there's an added benefit of efficiency. We don't seem to be wasting time hopping from one system to another, or trying to combine two conflicting systems.
