"Simple, Flexible Document Annotation and Archiving That Saves Me Time (and money!)"
5/5
What do you like best about Dext?

Dext allows me to annotate and archive financial documents for my bookkeeper. It saves me so much time and eliminates ambiguity.

It is simple to use and endlessly flexible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

Some of the new AI integrations are annoying and I think they slow the platform down. I would like to opt out of the AI if possible.

Sometimes the AI suggestions are inaccurate. I also find that the system takes longer to process documents now that it uses AI. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Miguel Mendez of Dext

We're glad to hear that Dext has been so helpful for you in annotating and archiving financial documents. We appreciate your feedback about the AI integrations and will take it into consideration for future improvements.

"Time-Saving Receipt Capture with Powerful Rules"
5/5
What do you like best about Dext?

I use the receipt capture functionality in Dext, and what I like most is its ability to extract information from receipts and its flexibility around upload methods. It avoids me having to manually review documents, and it makes sure dates and amounts are correct. I use the rules function fairly heavily to make sure transactions get coded to the right category and the VAT treatment is correct. It definitely saves time. I have all of my clients actively use the app and the email in features for costs. I then use the rules function, coupled with the fairly new Dext AI Assist module, to make sure things get coded up correctly before they are fed into QuickBooks. Currently the rules save me the most time. For one of my clients, their P&L is fully costed out amongst employees in the business, and the rules function allows me to split costs amongst different employees. When you're splitting out to around 10 different employees, this helps massively. I also like how the client can put a description in the email and that is then visible within Dext. I have it linked up to QuickBooks and Xero. Setup was pretty intuitive, and it's easy enough to set up each new client. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

As touched on above, when setting up smart split rules, it would be good if the percentage column had some automation. I do wish that Dext had a functionality to equalize the % for each line. Currently when creating the rule, if the number of employees changes, I need to re-enter the percentage split. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Miguel Mendez of Dext

George, thank you for this brilliant and very specific piece of feedback. An "Equalise percentages" button for Smart Split rules when employees are added or removed is a great suggestion, and we've shared it internally with the team. It also sounds like you're already making great use of Supplier Rules and AI Assist. If you haven't already, consider enabling Auto Publish for recurring transactions that are consistently coded correctly and don't require manual review before being sent to your accounting software. This can save a significant amount of bookkeeping time by automatically publishing documents once Dext has extracted the data.

Thanks again for taking the time to leave your review!

"Streamlined Client Workflows with Accurate Receipt Capture"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Dext?

Dext has really helped us streamline our clients’ processes. It’s far superior to other tools we’ve used, like Hubdoc. Over the past 13 years, we’ve also seen much greater receipt-capture accuracy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

From a partner point of view, its the inability to control clients using Paid for abilities, like line extraction or statements. As the subscriber and payer, we should have more control of this and have the ability to switch on and off these features and possibly even setting our own caps, to avoid clients going over the top in usage. Its one part of Dext over the past few years i've not liked. We are giving clients a blank cheque and the ability to spend our money which we then need to get back from the client. And Dext is facilitiating this. There must be more control for the subscriber (Partner) to stop clients freely using paid for items on Dext. This is probably my one big issue with Dext at the moment and i have voiced this many times, but never been heard as i assume its not seen as an issue - but it makes no sense to put the liabillty on the Partner when we have no control on what our clients can do beyond our agreed subscription price (extras). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Miguel Mendez of Dext

It is wonderful to hear that Dext has successfully optimised the workflows of your clients while boosting capture accuracy over the years. Regarding your feedback on managing expenditures for premium features like supplier statements or line extraction, we suggest maintaining Admin permissions exclusively for your practice team to prevent unauthorised setting adjustments. You can further control costs by activating extraction only at the supplier level and tracking activity through our usage reporting exports. For even deeper visibility, the Dext Practice Manager dashboard is worth looking into; it monitors client behavior in real-time, helping you catch potential overspend before your next invoice arrives. We appreciate your feedback.

"Effortless Data Extraction, Needs Mobile Enhancement"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Dext?

I use Dext to digitize and extract data from clients' costs, sales, and bank statements. I love the ease of use and the many different ways I can upload documents. It's convenient to use both in the office and on the go since we can scan documents ourselves or the client can do so from their phone, saving us man hours. Setting up Dext was super easy, just sign up for a trial and you can start immediately. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

There's no way from the mobile app to upload pictures of bank statements for data extraction. That has to be done on the desktop. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Miguel Mendez of Dext

Alex, really appreciate the review; it is fantastic to hear that Dext is delivering significant time savings by allowing your team and clients to capture costs and sales while on the move. Regarding your feedback on bank statements, that is currently a desktop-only workflow; where possible, connecting a direct bank feed is a much more robust alternative that removes the need for manual uploads entirely. I will certainly flag this mobile functionality gap to the product team for review. Since you are focused on office and mobile efficiency, it is also worth exploring AI Assist, as it learns from your historic coding patterns to suggest further automations for your bookkeeping tasks. Thanks for sharing your insights.

"Intuitive, Reliable Support and Strong Data Extraction for Claims Review"
4/5
What do you like best about Dext?

Fairly easy to use (intuitive), does a good job of extracting data, support is reliable and responsive, able to use extracted data for claims review, like the interface where invoice and related data shows on one page Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

As we only use it as a portal for claimants to load invoices, it has too many fields we don't need and so far, there seems to be no way to customize this. Would also like to be able to change titles of fields. Have put this in the suggestions for features (a while back) and nothing has been done about this (many other users mentioned they'd like the same capabilities) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Miguel Mendez of Dext

Hi Lucy,

I was checking some old reviews and wanted to let you know that Dext has evolved so much since then. Before, we focused on being the best-in-class data capture and extraction tool. Now we're a more comprehensive AI bookkeeping software.

If you're still with us, thank you for being part of our customer base. If you're not, I'd invite you to revisit Dext and check out key features like:

Dext AI Assist, which learns how you manage your books and suggests ways to automate repetitive bookkeeping tasks

GPS mileage tracker

Supplier rules

Line item extraction

And more

Thanks again for your review!

"Streamlined Onboarding and Efficiency Booster"
5/5
What do you like best about Dext?

I really appreciate how straightforward the initial setup process is with Dext. From inviting clients to integrating with Xero, everything is intuitive and reduces onboarding time significantly. The flexible document submission options and strong educational resources have also made it easier for both our team and clients to adopt and use the software effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

The mobile app, while convenient for quick submissions, lacks some of the functionality available on the desktop version. This limitation can sometimes frustrate clients who are looking for a more complete experience on mobile. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Miguel Mendez of Dext

Thank you, Hannah! We're glad Dext is making a difference for your practice and clients. Your feedback on the mobile app is noted. Our team is continuously working on bringing more features into the app. For example, the app currently includes a GPS mileage tracker, approvals and claims, and most recently, earlier this year we released Vault to archive important documents beyond core data capture. That said, our recommendation is to use the app as an extension of the web platform, and to use the web version for setting up more complex rules or workflows. If you can, please share which features you'd like to see in the app through our Support team or Voice of the Customer program. Thanks again for your review!

"Top-Notch Support and Instant, Invaluable Insights"
5/5
What do you like best about Dext?

Support and learning is top notch; within days of signing up I had a call and two more scheduled to assist me in the set up and early days. It's easy to navigate, though there much more to it than I use currently - with all the support in place I am confident I can get the most out of in pretty soon. Integrations are straight forward as is the setting up of the health checks and practice insights - the data analysis is almost instant, and though it will take time to review and plan how best to use it, the insights are invaluable. The AI did not work first time, so I need to go away and refine my instructions, again when I have some time. It's not a cheap piece of software, but then it probably shouldn't be and peer reviews are promising; that put the work in and Dext is like your first employee. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

Documents can get 'lost'. Attachments don't always upload when dragged over from an email. A lot of text which needs careful reading sometimes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Miguel Mendez of Dext

Really encouraging to see someone in the early stages already thinking about how to get the most out of it rather than just scratching the surface. On documents going missing via drag-and-drop from email, the most reliable workaround is Email-in forwarding as each Dext inbox has its own unique address and attachments come through cleanly every time without the drag-and-drop variable. When you do get a moment to revisit AI Assist, it's worth knowing it gets considerably more useful once it has a body of your coding history to learn from, so the earlier you can get it running, the faster it starts handling categorisation and tax treatment on its own..

"Reduces Risk, Cuts Admin, and Speeds Up Processing"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Dext?

It reduces risk, cuts down on manual admin, and makes processing faster. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

I’d love an all-clients dashboard that shows headline information for my non-Dext clients, in a way that makes it easy to identify which of them I should upsell Dext to.

I also wish I still had my "lifetime" deal of unlimited clients for a fixed price! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Miguel Mendez of Dext

Hi Diane, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. It's great to hear that Dext is helping minimise risk, reduce manual admin, and improve both the speed and accuracy of your bookkeeping processes.

We also appreciate your suggestion for a comprehensive dashboard that includes non-Dext clients to help identify upselling opportunities. It's a very practical idea, and I've shared your feedback with our internal team for consideration. Regarding the legacy lifetime deals, we completely understand your perspective. Some time ago, we introduced client-based pricing to better align subscriptions with each practice's workload and to make bookkeeping automation more accessible across practices of different sizes.

If you'd like to review your current subscription, I'd recommend reaching out to your Account Manager. They'll be best placed to discuss the available plans and help you find the option that best suits your practice's needs. In the meantime, Practice Insights can provide a clear view of efficiency across your active Dext client base.

Thanks again for your review.

"Streamlines Bookkeeping with Automated Efficiency"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Dext?

I like Dext primarily for its data health and insights features. It helps me significantly as a fractional CFO to highlight issues and improve clients' data health scores. The rules-based automation for bookkeeping is brilliant because it cuts through or reduces my bookkeeping time and ensures quality and consistency across record-keeping. Everything is as automated as I can get it, allowing me to rely on reviews within Xero for material inaccuracies and to push data through for consistency checks. The automation also reduces human error and saves time by not having to amend transactions. I appreciate the familiarity and comfort of using Dext, especially after having tried alternatives like Hubdoc. Also, the initial setup of Dext was very easy without any real issues. Ultimately, I believe it is worth the money, as I'm encouraged to make better use of it since I have skin in the game. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

I'm gonna say the weak point of Dext is myself, because you don't know what you don't know. And I'm comfortable using it to a certain degree, but I would always like to know where I am missing a trick or I should invest a bit more time in setup and automation so that I don't have to keep stepping back into it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Miguel Mendez of Dext

Darren, it is great to hear that Data Health and rules-based automation are doing the heavy lifting across your client portfolio. Regarding your point on "not knowing what you don't know," it is worth acting on that by checking out our Dext U certification. Our dedicated on-demand training sessions for Data Health, Insights, and Intelligent Workflows dive deeper into features most relevant to your advisory work, and these are all included in your subscription. "Indispensable for Efficient Accounting"
5/5
What do you like best about Dext?

I use Dext for its ease of use and performance, which makes it indispensable. I appreciate the simplified search in the archives, the ease of use for my clients thanks to the photos for receipts, as well as the processing of expense reports. The automation settings and the entry of accounting documents are also very simple. The intuitive application is enhanced by Dext's certification, which offers mini-exercises to fully exploit its many possibilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dext?

nothing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Thank you, Lysielle! We’re delighted Dext has become indispensable to your accounting workflow and makes receipt submission simple for your clients. It’s also great to hear that you’re enjoying Dext’s certification exercises.
