## About Depot
Depot is a build acceleration platform that can accelerate Docker image builds and GitHub Actions jobs by up to 40x. Depot provides a remote container build service running optimized BuildKit with fast persistent NVMe-backed persistent caching. It supports building Intel, Arm, and multi-architecture images natively, without emulation. Developers send their builds to Depot with our CLI, a drop-in replacement for Docker build, locally or from their existing CI provider. Since we run BuildKit behind the scenes, we are fully compatible with the entire ecosystem of Docker tooling — anything that integrates with BuildKit integrates with Depot. In addition, Depot also provides GitHub Actions runners that leverage faster compute, 10x faster caching, and optimized runners for Intel, ARM, and GPU workloads—all for half the cost of GitHub-hosted runners. Today, Depot users can choose to self-host their build data plane, in which case all builds run inside the customer's AWS account. Or they can choose to have Depot host their builds to minimize their infrastructure costs.

## Depot Reviews
 ### 1. It just works, faster CI at half the cost

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** alonso s. | Staff DevOps, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Depot?**

from the beginning, Depot has always acted with urgency on our interactions, the setup is literally installing their Github App and changinging a single line

Settiing up Depot was the most effective initiative in 2024 and it was only a week of effort, including writing the business case and presenting to the VP. It was really easy to convince management and after a few months of usage we observed 60% cost redution

**What do you dislike about Depot?**

During onboarding we had a surprise with job queue time, which is the time from we trigger a job to the time the job is running.

Depot prioritized solving this issue, and within a week they deployed a new implementation that stabilized queue times to an acceptable range

**What problems is Depot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Depot offers an alternative to using Github on-demand runners.
Depot runners are hosted in AWS which allow me to rely on implementation assumptions.

For example:
When we use Github Ondemand runners, we had to also use Github Container Registry (ghcr.io), using an alternative like AWS Elastic Container Registry (ECR) would cost extra on data transfer, but with Depot Runners we can safely use any AWS service without cost penalties

 ### 2. 3x the speed for half the cost - Its a no brainer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cliff C. | Director of Software Engineering, Kubecost, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Depot?**

Depot is one of the best decisions I made for our team. The accelerator to DevX here is massive. We had orders of magnitude increase in our CI/CD pipelines allowing for more test coverage and quality because of the speed and cost savings that Depot provided.

Very few products just work the way Depot just works. Its stable, dependable, and basically a NOOP to implement. Every single time we've needed assistance the Depot team has been dilligent to jump in to help, and solve our problems. We moved quickly to replace all of our workflows in github actions with these runners, and developers used depot cross container builds every day.

**What do you dislike about Depot?**

That Kyle and Jacob waited until 2022 to start this. I really don't have any critiques to add at this point.

**What problems is Depot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Increase speed of CI/CD pipelines, reduce overall costs of automation. Ease develpor integration with a much more stable runners platform, while also allowing developers to build cross container builds with multiple hours per day saved in this process. The recent moves to make the deep caching product available to remote use is amazing and while we haven't begun to leverage that feature yet it is very promising.

 ### 3. Rocket Fuel for Developers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Depot?**

- FAST, does what it says on the tin.
- Super easy to get going. We just had to change a couple of lines in our github actions workflow file to start building Docker images using Depot.
- The team deeply understands the technology and problem space. I feel like I'm buying a service that will only improve and mature further.

**What do you dislike about Depot?**

Not much, to be honest. Early on we experienced issues with builds failing when git submodules changed, but the team did a good job helping us troubleshoot and ultimately fixed the problem.

**What problems is Depot solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faster multi-architecture Docker builds. Faster builds allow us to iterate quicker on our product.
