## About Dehancer
Dehancer is a professional film emulation software suite built by enthusiasts and scientists with over 30 years of analogue experience. It is designed to give digital videos and photos a truly cinematic, film-like look by accurately replicating the real physics, chemistry, and optics of analogue film. Dehancer is available as plugins for major professional video and photo editing applications, as a standalone desktop photo editor, as a mobile app for iPhone and iPad, and as a web-based online editor accessible from any browser. At the core of Dehancer is its library of 60+ authentic photographic and motion picture film profiles, including iconic stocks such as Kodak Vision 3, Kodak Portra 400, Cinestill 800T, Ilford HP5 Plus, Kodak Eastman 5222, and Kodachrome 64. Users can also explore instant, vintage, and exotic processes like Fujifilm Instax, Polaroid, Prokudin-Gorskiy, Ambrotype, and ORWO. Each film profile is scientifically modeled to reproduce the unique color response, tonal curve, and character of the original emulsion. Beyond film profiles, Dehancer offers a comprehensive set of analog film effects. Film Grain is based on physical modeling of photographic emulsion and includes built-in profiles for 8, 16, 35, and 65mm film formats with custom settings for any film type. Halation recreates the characteristic red halo around light sources and specular highlights, also enhancing skin tone vibrancy. Bloom simulates the soft look achieved with optical filters and small-format films. Film Breath, Gate Weave, and Film Damage (Dust, Hair, and Scratches) add animated, frame-to-frame variation that brings footage to life with authentic analog artifacts. Overscan reproduces the extra image area visible on film, including perforations and frame spaces, handcrafted from real film scans. Dehancer also includes a Subtractive CMY Color Head that works like the color correction filters used in photo enlargers, along with Print Toning for adjusting color temperature separately in shadows, midtones, and highlights. The Film Developer tool allows users to fine-tune emulation by adjusting development contrast and color separation. A LUT Generator lets colorists export their grading look as a LUT file (17x17x17 or 33x33x33) for on-stage or real-time grading. Advanced color pipeline support includes ACES, DaVinci Wide Gamut/Intermediate (DWG), and Cineon Film Log for professional workflows. Camera Log profiles cover 130+ cameras, drones, and mobile formats including Filmic Pro Log and Apple ProRes Log. Dehancer integrates with DaVinci Resolve (OFX), Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom Classic, Capture One Pro, Affinity Photo, Baselight, and Assimilate SCRATCH (coming soon). It is available on macOS, Windows, and Linux (for DaVinci Resolve). The iOS app supports iPhone and iPad with unlimited photo and video export. Subscription plans range from a Mobile plan for iOS and online use, to Individual Photo and Photo & Video plans for individual creators, a Studio plan for professional workstations with node-locked licensing, and a Production plan for studios requiring offline activation, priority support, business invoices, and user management. A Desktop Lifetime plan is also available as a one-time purchase for permanent access.

## Dehancer Reviews
 ### 1. Dehancer: Bringing Film Character to Digital Footage

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

What I like most about Dehancer is how easy it is to get a film-like look without making the footage feel overly processed. I mainly use it in Final Cut Pro, and the film profiles, grain, halation, and other tools give me a lot of room to experiment. It has become one of those plugins I keep coming back to when I want my footage to have a bit more character and feel less digital.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

One thing I’d say is that Dehancer can take some time to learn, especially if you’re new to film emulation. There are a lot of controls, and it’s easy to overdo the look at first. It can also be a bit demanding on performance when using several effects together, so I usually keep an eye on playback performance while editing.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dehancer makes it easier for me to give digital footage a more natural, film-like look without spending a lot of time building the look manually. It saves me time during colour grading and gives my videos more character and consistency.

 ### 2. Dehancer Premiere Pro Plugin: Gorgeous Halation and Glow

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

So far I have been using Dehancer Premiere Pro plugin. I love the halation, glow, and other things in it, but I don't really like that when you drop a plugin to a sequence, it automatically enables some features, so you have to refine it.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I would change the UI/UX of Video Plugin. I like the idea of a pop-up window where all the wheels and scrolls are in front of you with examples and color palette. I know it might be a personal preference, but I would love to see before/after or the way the effect or specific frame will look like before I even turn it on. Recently I downloaded Dehancer Desktop for the Photo Editing and will be checking that out as well.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Instead of downloading or tweaking some settings in adding many effects to video, you can do everything in one plugin (add vintage look, add grain, noise, halation, glow, and blurriness). It's a handy tool to achieve a specific look of the video.

 ### 3. Dehancer Made Film Emulation Easy, with Stunning Grain and Bloom

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

When I discovered the latest versions of Dehancer in the midst of the pandemic, it opened up a whole new path for me in color grading, thanks to how easily I could achieve a film-emulation look with just a few clips. I had a very clear idea of what I wanted to achieve: effects that many tools still didn’t offer, such as halation and “bloom.” In addition to out-of-print films whose production had ceased 30 years ago, this method for recreating those cinematic effects was quite intriguing. There’s no doubt that, over the years, the interface improved and the software’s basic concept was further developed through DaVinci Resolve—a benchmark in the color grading industry—which already offered many more color grading options.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

For now, I'm satisfied with what Dehancer offers; however, I'd like the effects options—such as "Bloom," "Halation," and "Grain"—to have their own section so I can make more precise adjustments, and I'd also like to see MFT implemented for film textures. Also, I find the overscan effects to be very unnatural: they don’t have the same imperfect textures that film has, nor the ones you can achieve with scans…

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

During the pandemic, when I switched from Adobe software to DaVinci Resolve, this tool gave me much more confidence in achieving natural, realistic, and cinematic color grades in just a few steps, since I didn’t have much experience with this new DaVinci workflow. Now that some time has passed, however, I can save time with my PowerGrades, which are powered by Dehancer, and this helps me, as an independent filmmaker, maintain a fast workflow and uphold a very high standard of quality for the post-production of my projects.

 ### 4. Dehancer on DaVinci Resolve: simple, fast, and professional rendering

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I love using Dehancer as a plugin on DaVinci Resolve for its ease of use and speed in achieving professional-quality visual treatments. I occasionally use Dehancer Desktop for photos. The onboarding is simple too, and you can find videos about Dehancer on YouTube. The interface is easy to handle and maintains the same mechanics across different software or plugins.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I have very few flaws to mention. Perhaps the price needs to be justified; for professional use, it's reasonable. For an individual, it's a bit more challenging to justify. I'm waiting for updates on Dehancer Desktop like masks, to use it as the main software.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dehancer allows me to save time, simplicity, and enjoyment in my daily work. It enables me to be satisfied with the result and to have a more cinematic touch without wasting too much time. Thus, every video project gets a polished image.

 ### 5. Dehancer’s Granular Controls Make Film and Digital Looks Easy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I use dehancer extensively on shorts, features and branded content for final look creation. It's granular controls for things like grain and bloom as well as professional options for spaces such as ACES are key. I can use it for a deeply textured film look or a cleaner digital look with ease.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

There is some learning curve to get what you want. And it also alters the look quite extensively at first, so you often need to adjust black and white point to avoid clipping or extreme looks. It's frustrating you can't quickly look at film stocks. Something like a thumbnail grid to see the looks would be perfect.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It just packages the look creation into a neat bundle of controls and options, which also have a high level of quality.

 ### 6. Dehancer Delivers Powerful, Intuitive Tools and Great Value

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I’ve found that Dehancer offers excellent value for money in terms of features. There’s a bit of a learning curve at first, but the tools are incredibly powerful and feel intuitive once you have a basic understanding of how everything works. I have very little issue playing back at 1080 with multiple effects running at the same time. I have no issues combining it with third-party plugins either.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I would love to see a few more film stocks added, and maybe some refinements to the halation as it can be a bit strong from default.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dehancer allows me to really push my footage to give it the exact look I want. I love the "film look", and it is perfect for softening overly digital footage from my cameras.

 ### 7. A Powerful Analog-to-Digital Bridge, With Room for Better Batch Workflows

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Miroslav D. | Réalisateur \ Directeur photo, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Validated Reviewer:** Validated through LinkedIn

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I use Dehancer on my iPad for quick videos from my phone, and it’s especially handy to have it on my phone, iPad, and computer. For me, it’s the missing link between analog and digital photography or videography. I like the live preview and efficiency—seeing the thumbnail update live lets me quickly see what a look can feel like and go faster with my creativity. I like having all the presets, especially film stocks that don’t exist anymore, so I can preview what it would look or feel like to shoot with them and revive a feeling or memory. The tools and sliders are really precise, subtle, and meticulous, not harsh or heavy. They feel intuitive, like mixing colors, and I can make minimal changes while keeping control of my editing. I’m still learning, but I’m definitely still enjoying it. I would definitely recommend it as a 10 because it gives me a good perspective on what is possible.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I struggle with batch working in Dehancer. I’d like a better way to organize my own presets, maybe with folders and versions for my Ektachrome, Ektacolor, and Fuji styles. I also want to quickly batch photos with a look to see if the feeling is good without having to nitpick every photo. Jumping back and forth with Capture One or DaVinci Resolve can be time-consuming, so a closer connection would be handy. The initial setup wasn’t that easy for me, and there was quite a learning curve.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Dehancer as the missing link between my analog and digital photography and videography. It connects the digital and analog forms for the Super 8, 16mm, 120 medium-format, and digital work I shoot.

 ### 8. Quick vintage retouches, with a grain to perfect

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I really love adding grain, scratches, and dust for a very personalized, vintage, old, dirty, and imperfect look. I love the speed and ease of achieving my retouching goals. I use scratches and dust a lot because it gives character. I had been looking for software like Dehancer for a long time and I am very happy to have found it. The installation on macOS was easy, nothing complicated.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I find that the options for modifying the dust grain of scratches could be improved: I would like to be able to change it in relation to colors and blur, or with brightness especially, and create grain size gradients according to blur, brightness, or even contrast, and have more options like adding layers. With a keen eye, you can see that it is not true analog. I would also like layer options, with more versatility at the photographic level and options closer to Photoshop.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I add grain, scratches, and dust to my digital images to achieve a very personalized, vintage, old, worn, and imperfect look.

 ### 9. Professional results and analog textures in a fluid workflow

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I use Dehancer for almost everything, from wedding color grading to corporate videos. When I need specific looks similar to analog textures, it's a perfect ally. The film grain and halation tools work very well for certain projects and help me with texture and narrative. I like that it is constantly updated with the latest cameras and has consistent support, all integrated into one tool and running quite smoothly. The results are very good and professional. I found it easy to use, and the documentation is helpful for understanding the sub-tools, their physics and logic, and when to apply each one. For me, it's not just another filter, but a way to give intention to each production. I always recommend it.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I would like to have a slider to control the intensity of each profile directly within Dehancer, to see it more or less intense without having to do it with DaVinci's mask tool.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dehancer helps me achieve specific looks similar to analog textures. Its film grain and halation tools work very well for certain projects and help me solve texture and narrative problems.

 ### 10. Unmatched Visual Quality and Accuracy—A Core Part of Our Workflow

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

The platform is fundamentally a standard part of our workflow. The quality and the accuracy are unmatched in terms of visual results

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

Frankly, we don't have a great deal of feedback. The plugins for DaVinci Resolve as well as Lightroom are incredibly usable and have had a great deal of care put into them.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are countless third-party plugins that are available; however, they are oftentimes heavy-handed and are not grounded in the realistic colour science found in traditional physical printing. For us to achieve this level of accuracy and to have this as an easy and efficient core part of our workflow is incredibly important, and Dehancer does this with ease.

 ### 11. All the Choices and Control You Need to Dial In the Perfect Look

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francisco V. | Filmmaker: Writer, Director, Producer, Editor, Colorist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I have all the choices and control I have access to for dialing in a look

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

The installation is capped across different machines. I’m expecting to do some color corrections on different projects, which means I can’t use it on other workstations for each project. Or do some work at home then render elsewhere. Also I wish my Resolve permanent license gave me access to all products. I think it is expensive for a tool that it is designed for a single purpose. And now that DaVinci Resolve has a Look Designer tool for free, the price point might deter newcomers

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

 ### 12. Straightforward, Powerful Control That Fits Perfectly Into My Resolve Workflow

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I like that it's super straightforward and easy to use, with all the parameters you'll need in one node, giving you so much control over your look. It integrates really well in my resolve workflow. I can add so much tactile character and depth to my footage, while still being able to shape and grade it in my own way.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

Sometimes it can be quite demanding, and playback can be an issue once a few tools are enabled.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main reason I use dehancer is to fix the overly clean digital look. It has a completely organic look, with the halation and grain looking super realistic. I have also used for photographic editing and the scaling of the grain is really useful, and the range of film stocks is great.

 ### 13. Fast Film Look Development, but Grain Needs Work

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Costa K. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Validated Reviewer:** This review contains authentic analysis and has been reviewed by our team

**Source: Organic:** Organic review. This review was written entirely without invitation or incentive from G2, a seller, or an affiliate.

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I use Dehancer for professional work alongside other tools. It helps me easily and fast enough to find and create a look, so it’s a great tool for look development. I like the film stocks—they’re really, really nice—and the customization of some features in the printing process and before printing. Film compression is one of the greatest tools I use a lot as well. Setup was a breeze, very easy, and overall I think the tool is great and working really, really good.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I think the grain needs a better algorithm. Other tools can do much better work for a more realistic grain. I’d also love a specific region just for diffusion.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Dehancer for look development because it helps me easily and fast enough find and create a look.

 ### 14. Cinematic Color Made Simple, With Occasional Reloads

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I use Dehancer with Final Cut Pro, and to me it’s the best way to get cinematic colors for footage. I really like the hallation, grain, and glow effects—they’re the highest quality I’ve used. It’s made me stop looking for LUTs that don’t end up working. I like how easy it is to use, with all the different film profiles built in to help me fine-tune the look I want. It’s one simple, all-in-one plugin, and setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

Sometimes the Dehancer plugin doesn’t load all the way, and I have to close and reopen Final Cut Pro.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dehancer has made me stop looking for LUTs that don’t end up working. I like how easy it is to use—it’s all in one plugin.

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

The halation feature and how the entire tool integrates well with DaVinci Resolve. The Performance is really good even on old Macs

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I would appreciate the opportunity to preview the filters before applying them, otherwise you have to try many of them before you find the filter that suits better my work.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It saves me from having to do so many editing steps. With just a few clicks, I can focus more on the story’s narrative instead of getting stuck on the colour grading.

 ### 16. Exceptional Film Simulation, Limited File Management

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I use Dehancer as the last step in my photography workflow to edit and export images. It has the best film simulation I’ve tried, and it looks like real film but with more creative control. I like the granular controls over the film look; the bloom, halation, and grain are brilliant, and the colours are wonderful. It handles my Canon R6 and Fuji X100VI raw files well, and it is easy to set up and use for one-off files. The editing is great.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I find Dehancer's file management system isn't great, and image preview times are slow, so it's not really suitable for making selects. I had to develop workarounds with my other photo editing software and my own scripts to create a workflow that works with my Capture One catalog and gets the images I want to edit directly into Dehancer ready to go. It's not a full solution currently.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I get the best film simulation I’ve tried, with granular control over the film look. The bloom, halation and grain are brilliant, and the colours are wonderful.

 ### 17. Effortless Film Emulation, but Demanding on Performance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I find Dehancer simple to use. I value the quick camera profiles and all the film emulations because they remove friction from the whole process. I found the initial setup really easy.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I find Dehancer quite heavy on performance when I use it in the better mode. Real-time playback becomes a bit difficult at times, even though I have a pretty performant machine. I’d like expanded camera profiles, some more specific color-grading features that don’t do too much with the emulation side of things, and really good presets that I just have to adjust to the picture.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

Easy to use as a filter/plugin and has a wide variety of films and easily-controlled options.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

The only downside now is that the latest update doesn't let you enter values, you can only drag the slider.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Getting the film look and maximising aesthetic value from my images. Much cheaper than buying posh camera gear or labouring with/developing film.

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

I use Dehancer for both video and photo editing work. It gives me unique looks I couldn’t replicate. I like the range of film emulations and that I can add or remove things, so I can have a film look without using film and remove grain or other things if I don’t want them. I thought the setup was quite easy.

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

I am not that advanced in colour grading, but I would maybe say the DaVinci Resolve plugin could have a bit more of a preview of how the image will look in the drop-down.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dehancer gives me unique looks I couldn't replicate.

**What do you like best about Dehancer?**

**What do you dislike about Dehancer?**

Potrebbe funzionare meglio la spiegazione degli elementi o dei preimpostati.

**What problems is Dehancer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dehancer velocizza il color look finale: in poco tempo ottengo un ottimo look vintage professionale, senza sbattimento.
