It has your back for mission critical sql, and it also has all db specifics in check (like showing you timezone specific date information / simulating a different time-zone for showing the time-zone specific data-fields, helping you with hard to research problems like transaction safety and deadlock situations by providing sql windows for concurrent execution of sql side-by-side, and many more things you need as database specialist of full-stack-dev). It provides you with a great history of your logs where you can search in to profit from your already learned experience. It has been a great support in my career as software developer for quite some years, and i especially like that it always keeps up with recent drivers and brings in new databases and the UI has also greatly improved with a modern interface, and it also works on Linux! Also great are its export and import capabilities. You will find great use in being able to export Table Schemas when you need to construct those tables again you SQL seed files, or similar tasks. You can even let it process long running big data imports from script files safely. They also have specificaly good customer support, where you really get helped when having a problem with specific instructions and guide to help you get on track again with very fast answer frequency (often on the same day) **What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?** There is not much. The only thing i can think of, is that the SQL History gets a bit slow over time if you like to keep everything! like me. Then it starts to slow down a bit when you click on the history and you need to wait until it shows up. Also the startup time of the tool can be a bit slow (in older versions). **What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?** When you are a programmer of a SaaS (Software as a service), you will have different environments your software runs on (local, dev, staging, beta, prod) and you want to be able to help your product owner in bringing value to your customer. This can often also involve tideous tasks, like correcting defect data in different environments, setting up test-data, checking data-integrity. There are many tools in this regards, but if you plan a long career this tool really does not let you down, because it has functionality that can help you on a daily basis! just like your IDE (Intellij, Eclipse, Visual Studio Code, ...) it is a tool you will mostly start on a daily basis, as it will help you visit your database schema, visualize it, and profit from seeing table relationships / foreign-keys in a very good and intuitive way that gives you an advantage for your know-how when you write the code (as you will be able to better understand existing database schemas, which are often the basis for a good architecture). ### 4. The installation and configuration were very simple; it doesn't have major system requirements, so it runs smoothly during long sessions and uses the system's resources correctly, without causing conflicts. Setting up or copying connections is incredibly easy. My favorite feature is the editor templates, which have allowed me to automate all the steps in common admin tasks. Relationship diagrams/lists for complex interactions have been extremely helpful. I love being able to type now into a field and get a timestamp. The features for selecting, copying and exporting are very user friendly. Great documentation. DbVis support is top notch! I always get a response in less than 24 hours, and they know their product inside out. Setting up connections are extremely simple, and it is easy to move between different types of databases, integrating scripts. I use it every day. Happy camper. **What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?** Formatting everything in a query after FROM with () and ` characters. I always have to edit/replace because they make it difficult for me to read/edit the query. Same for the DDL. In the data grid, it is somewhat of a pain to have to change the ID column to (null) when you copy a record, but that may be a function of the MySql/MariaDB. **Recommendations to others considering DbVisualizer:** Definitely check out the documentation - it is extremely valuable. There are plenty of customisation options available, which means less time spent reworking data and scripts to make everything fit for purpose. The SQL history feature is also great: I keep the 300 most recent entries visible, and the summary for each query makes it easy to quickly find the one I’m looking for. **What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?** There isn’t much to dislike; the only thing I can think of is one small frustration. If I have a window open—say, the Data Monitor—and then open the SQL History window, the Data Monitor closes. Also, coloring/theming is a pain in the butt. I want to *easily* change colors of various UI elements to reflect dev/staging/prod databases. Also sometimes the application reports that it is in an unstable state and a restart is recommended, although I do not notice any degradation of performance or apparents errors. The one item that I think would beneficial (in my cases) is to be able to use script variables in filenames when exporting to a file from and SQL script. Pro features rival those of database vendors' query tools. Scheme visualization and editor tools. Query result exports of either selected rows/columns or all results. Migration tools have been greatly helpful. And of course, all the various tools I expect to have in any quality database query tool. I've never had a problem that internet searches haven't been able to solve, so I've never had to contact support for anything other than a license problem I caused when upgrading once. It was rectified right away and without hassle. **What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?** When looking at the raw table data on some large tables, it slows quite drastically if you disable the max rows setting (which I've done and regretted on numerous occasions). There have been historically a little messiness with regard to creating functions, stored procedures, triggers, and such. However I believe they recently fixed that in the current version 12. Lastly, finding some of the configuration properties (like how dates/clob/blobs are displayed) seem a bit more difficult than they should. **Recommendations to others considering DbVisualizer:** It is free to try. Even though I didn't need all the pro features when I bought it, I like supporting companies and individuals that are making my life better or easier. Now, I've come to rely on enough pro features after 10+ years that the license purchase and upgrades are a no-brainier. As a developer, the cost of a license for a tool that makes my life easier is cheaper than the medical bills for an aneurysm caused by a frustrating substandard tool, like eclipse. **What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have a need to use a query tool in both macOS, Linux, and Windows with the ability to access a swath of different databases. ### 50. Being able to build queries through this tool helped me to visualize and understand syntax, table joins, and many other features. I was a beginner when I started but now I am not only able to write queries with out the query builder, I also have a better understanding of how to use a db to maximize the data analysis.
