## Core5 Reviews
  ### 1. Core5 makes it easy to give reading homework

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lynn S. | High School Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2023

**What do you like best about Core5?**

I like being able to use it for homework because it's something a student can do without a teacher being present. It's also great to use while you're working with small groups and you want one group to be working on something different while you give the other group individual attention.

**What do you dislike about Core5?**

It can seem a little babyish for students who are older, or who might be at that reading level because they are new to the country (although Lexia English is a good work-around for that)

**What problems is Core5 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping me be in two places at the same time (so I can split students into groups) and it allows students to work on phonix at home. I teach ESL so the parents might not be able to help their children with English homework but Core5 can help a student if they get the answer wrong. Please note that I can't take screenshots with my work computer (I"m not sure if it's a policy issue or if my computer is broken)

  ### 2. Core 5 for ESL

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2023

**What do you like best about Core5?**

I teach ESL and I use Core5 for newcomers if they can't score high enough on the three strands of the sister company, Lexia PowerUp. It helps with English's confusing phonics!

**What do you dislike about Core5?**

The students who have had to use it think it's "babyish," but in fairness, it wasn't designed for middle-school ESL students.

**What problems is Core5 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have newcomers mixed in with LEP (limited English proficient) students and it is hard to teach both groups at once. Being able to ask the one newcomer in the class to work on the computer while I am doing something else with the rest of the class, is super helpful

Please note that my school computer won't take screenshots for some reason (well, I guess I broke it). I have tried to upload a picture of me using it but it says the file size is too big.

  ### 3. Great app for students who need that extra one-to-one help

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joy R. | Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Core5?**

I love that this is adaptive software so it lets the students learn at their own pace. I also really appreciate the individual lessons it gives you when the student is struggling on specific content.

**What do you dislike about Core5?**

I would like to see a way for teachers to create groups.
I understand it's adaptive software and that would defeat the purpose but for example. I have a group of ESL students that I'd like to be able to track their progress in a group

**Recommendations to others considering Core5:**

Great app for students to independently work in when our rime ia spread so short during the school day.

**What problems is Core5 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love that core 5 helps me give my students a little bit of online one-to-one instruction that I wish I had the time to give in person. It's very helpful
For targeting specific skills and also give me great data to help me inform my instruction.

  ### 4. Overall O.K. but incorrect facts!

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** MOLLY S. | Student, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Core5?**

Core5 has a variety of learning options.

**What do you dislike about Core5?**

We have found a few parts that can be confusing as to the question. Also, in one story it says that Octopus' squirt poisonous ink. That is NOT TRUE! If this is a learning tool for kids then all facts should be true & correct. It is not ok to just teach proper Language Arts abilities but give false facts of other subjects. All information given should be fact checked.

**Recommendations to others considering Core5:**

None

**What problems is Core5 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It offers a variety of learning methods and aspects of Language Arts.

  ### 5. Repeated Review and Drill of Skills

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mary S. | Mrs. Sifferath , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Core5?**

I love the Core5 program. It engages my students and really accomplished mastery before progressing to the next level.

**What do you dislike about Core5?**

The program has had a few glitches in my classroom. It did not always work on a laptop and I had to h e all of my students share the classroom iPads.

**Recommendations to others considering Core5:**

If you aren’t sure if it is for you they do a wonderful trial period. Also, hold a presentation with a representative to ensure that you are utilizing and finding all the great resources with it.

**What problems is Core5 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I found that although the website will work, it is best to download the app. It also is online based so for classroom use you have to print all lessons and curriculum. The repeat and drill of skills has really benefited my students and it is something that they look forward to “playing” on and don’t always realize what they are doing are learning based activities.

  ### 6. Lexia Adaptive Software Helps Students Make Gains in Reading

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2019

**What do you like best about Core5?**

I like the simple interface of Lexia. It is not full of games and comic book-looking graphics. It moves students along at a nice pace and does a good job of teaching vocabulary and word meanings. It also comes loaded with resources for the teacher, so that you can personalize instruction based on student need. Students seem to like the program, so that's an added bonus.

**What do you dislike about Core5?**

I dislike that I cannot assign lessons for extra practice to my students. I don't know if it spiral reviews very well because many students need extra help in vocabulary topics which they have already passed in Lexia. Many of my 5th graders finish the program well before the end of their 5th grade year, so I'm not sure that it is as rigorous as other programs on the market.

**Recommendations to others considering Core5:**

This is a great product as a supplement to real classroom instruction. It is good independent practice for students and helps teach them some skills that teachers often struggle to get to in the short, busy school year. An added bonus is that my students never complain about having to do time in Lexia; they actually seem to like the program.

**What problems is Core5 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use this adaptive software to meet students where they are and help them to grow as readers.
