## CodeSubmit Reviews
  ### 1. Great product for running programming assessments

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom T. | Software engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2025

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

We've been using CodeSubmit for about 2 years to run our take-home programming assessment for technical candidates. It's been very easy to invite candidates, and in addition when we email the CodeSubmit team with questions they've always been very responsive and attentive.

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

Sometimes candidates fail to push the code in time and we have to manually follow-up to get the code, I wonder if there's some way candidates could still be allowed to push the code (but receive a warning in their terminal that it's overdue, so that they're aware they have no more time and shouldn't push any more) & have it be flagged in the system as a late submission.
Unfortunately for us on the hiring side, take-home programming assessments may not be providing as much hiring signal anymore due to the prevalence of people using LLMs that are getting increasingly strong at handling scoped tasks, but CodeSubmit also has other interview products besides the take-home programming assessment option, and based on personal communication with their support team they are thinking about how to make their product adaptable this issue.
I think it's a good product, however I haven't done that much comparison with competing products so I can't say for sure what the differences are.

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Take-home programming assessments within our engineering candidate hiring pipeline

  ### 2. Our favourite developer hiring tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zulfia K. | CMO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2024

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

CodeSubmit makes hiring proccess easy and interactive for everyone. Recruiters do not need to send take-home assignments manually and track time anymore. I honestly do not know how lo live and work without CodeSubmit anymore.

Example. Our take-home assignment has a time limit of 4 hours. An applicant from Australia decides to start it at 7pm Australian time. Our recruiter in the UAE can happily sleep, because it 1 am in Dubai. No need to communicate all the details with every candidate. No need to send the challenge manually.

plus I love how a developer tool could be managed by "normal people" :)

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

There is nothing I dislike about CodeSubmit

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No need to endlessly communicate with candidates

  ### 3. Easy and fast to use, super helpful with hiring technical staff

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris D. | Co-Founder and CTO, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2024

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

It was super simple to find relevant assessements from their assessment library and invite the candidates. As a startup, we're hriing quitr slowly, so I only needed the service for a month. I forgot to cancel and the system auto-renewed. Customer support was super helpfup to address my screew up! I'll defintiely come back when we want to hire again.

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

Candidates who don't complete an assessment still count towards the monthly limits. So we have to be extra careful who we invite!

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Technical capabilities assessment in the context of a real world problem. Really saves time when speaking to the candidate so we can focus on more value add topics.

  ### 4. Great Technical Screening Application

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan H. | Director of Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2022

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

Hiring software engineers for both WFH and WFO positions takes a long time to set up in a way that both assists interviewers and applicants alike. CodeSubmit has taken most of the pain out of the process by:

- Having a good sized library of customizable questions that are immediately available to use
- Having screening challenges, take-home assessments and code pair sessions in one interface
- Allowing us to create a custom grading rubric for each assignment for all hiring managers to follow
- Extremely helpful customer service

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

Our only complaint was that if you want to use multiple tests with one applicant, you have to manually invite them for each test, at which point a single applicant will have multiple "candidate" entries that can become tedious to keep track of. We were able to submit our feedback to the CodeSubmit team who has confirmed they are already working on a solution to this issue. So hopefully soon, we won't have any complaints at all!

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A painless way to give code assessments to applicants with the ability to review submissions as a team. It saves us time creating tests, gives our applicants a better interview process, and allows us to improve our hiring process over time by reviewing our hiring managers.

  ### 5. Great Platform that Really Improved Our Hiring Process

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicholas G. | Founder, CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2022

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

CodeSubmit allowed us to easily customize and employ a variety of test types and difficulties that greatly helped us screen and qualify dev candidates much better and faster than we were able to previously with our small team.

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

There were a couple of small feature requests we encountered that we mentioned to the support team, but nothing that would qualify as a real negative. The team was also extremely receptive to our suggestions.

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I lead a small software company that hires developers fairly often due to growing quickly, but we've never had the bandwidth or resources to develop a sophisticated technical vetting system for our developer candidates. CodeSubmit was awesome because it allowed us to customize and employ a variety of test types and difficulties that greatly helped us screen and qualify dev candidates much better and faster than we were able to previously.

  ### 6. Makes the Technical Interview a Breeze

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Justin R. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

As the CTO of a small startup, 100 different priorities are going on and creating a technical test for recruiting can be far down on the list. CodeSubmit allowed me to "hire out" having to come up with a take-home project by providing a very large library of frameworks and projects to choose from. Candidates also seemed to appreciate the projects for being appropriate sized.

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

Currently I do not have any complaints with CodeSubmit. It does exactly what it says, and is easy to use. Highly recommended

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to "hire out" creating a take-home project for our software development recruiting efforts.

  ### 7. Amazing product, instrumental in our hiring process

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristofor E. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 03, 2022

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

CodeSubmit allowed us to hire a front end engineer using what we feel is the best type of assessment, without having to put a bunch of time into it!

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

Lack of integrations with ATS, lack of ability to have customizable email templates. Aside from that it's really hard to find any faults.

**Recommendations to others considering CodeSubmit:**

Use it

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hiring utilizing a method that is more inclusive and drives better results

  ### 8. Great tool for screening engineers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2021

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

A few of the best things about Code submit are:

- Take-home challenges in the CodeSubmit library are easy to customize
- It is easy for recruiters to add their own custom challenges
- Integration of screen sharing for post-assessment follow on questions
- Easy to manage and track candidates (thought some improvements could be made)
- Great experience for candidates as they can use their tools and local environment to complete assessments

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

Overall, CodeSumit is a very good product, but there are a few areas for improvement. Namely:

- The majority of the built-in technical assessments are very web-centric. It would be great to see a wider variety of challenges to test additional skills and areas of specialty.
- Some effort should be made to improve the interface for managing current and former candidates. For example, there is no ability to view archived candidates. Additional built-in fields for classifying why a candidate had been approved or rejected would be welcome as well.
- Analytics and insights are currently lacking. Additional metrics - such as average ratings, the average time to complete a given challenge -would help further inform hiring decisions.

**Recommendations to others considering CodeSubmit:**

CodeSubmit offers a free trial. Contact the CodeSubmit team if you may need more time to assess or access to additional code assessments.

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CodeSubmit helps us remotely assess candidates at a time and place which is convenient for them. The ability to customize the challenges allows us to tailor the challenges to our needs.

Using technical assessments also helps us filter out candidates who are not committed to the recruitment process. If a candidate becomes unresponsive after sending them an assignment, they are likely not interested in a position in your organization.

  ### 9. Cute and powerful platform to hire software engineers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zulfia K. | Recruiter, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2022

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

Fast, good UI/UX, powerful, good customer support, which actually understand your problems and needs

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

It could be a little costly for tech startups. But I guess it´s fine for the industry. As an outsider, it's hard to understand why such a platform costs more than the entire ATS. I am not a fan of questioning pricing, I guess they provide an exeptional service and we are happy to pay for it.

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making time-restricted challenges for candidates.

  ### 10. Recruiting the best Engineers with CodeSubmit 🚀

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nina H. | Recruiter, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2021

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

- great complement for the recruiting process of Software Engineers
- easy set-up with a lot of task-templates
- review is done within CodeSubmit, comments for Recruiters
- walkthrough-video gives more insights about the applicants thoughts
- task can be limited to a certain time to be fullfilled

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

- there is no DevOps template yet
- sometimes applicants don't push the code in time

**Recommendations to others considering CodeSubmit:**

If you want to Recruit Software Engineers and want to check on their skills, CodeSubmit will help! They provide a lot of programming languages and frameworks.

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CodeSubmit helps us to check the expertise of software developers and thus keep the quality of new employees high. After an initial interview, the expertise is tested with CodeSubmit. If the review is positive, a candidate is invited to the main interview, where again the task results are discussed in detail.

  ### 11. Helped us hire 8 engineers in 8 weeks!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David S. | VP Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2021

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

The candidate experience. It allows them to work locally with the tools they are most comfortable with. Then it's just a matter of committing and pushing to a git repo!

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

I would love to see a separate candidate category for those who submit but did not commit any code. It would make our lives easier when reviewing submissions.

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CodeSubmit makes it easier for candidates to complete async code challenges designed by ourselves with our specific rubric. Custom code challenges help us evaluate candidates much more effectively than the typical algorithmic problems you see on other platforms.

  ### 12. Great for a SMB that hires a lot of freelancers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyler W. | Marketing Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 22, 2021

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

I have to hire a lot of developers to do numerous jobs on a freelance basis. CodeSubmit is a great tool for me to quickly qualify a candidate for our jobs.

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

Can be a bit pricey for all that it does.

**Recommendations to others considering CodeSubmit:**

I do not have any at this point. CodeSubmit has done everything that I have needed it to.

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping us quickly qualify candidates for freelance jobs.

  ### 14. Great testing software that gives real world testing examples

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pete J. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2020

**What do you like best about CodeSubmit?**

The platform offers a wide variety of software languages and framework. There are a ton of testing examples of varying length. A lot of test include mock ups which make test real world so much better! I can also upload a custom team, if I'd like. Also, the support has been amazing!

**What do you dislike about CodeSubmit?**

I wish you offered Wordpress test. I believe its on the roadmap according to support, however thats likely an area that would make the platform better.

**What problems is CodeSubmit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speeding up the developer hiring process and offering a variety of test to help additional skill sets.
