I use Coderbyte for the initial screening of software engineering candidates, which helps me assess some required skills without being present for the first round, saving me time. I really like that Coderbyte is more affordable compared to other options. The feature I value the most is probably the cheating detection, as it speeds up the process of finding qualified candidates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There's actually a lot that I don't like about Coderbyte, almost to the point of switching to a competitor. The UI is really difficult and unintuitive; symbols aren't clear and lack tool tips. Editing a project challenge is cumbersome; I can't upload a folder and have to manually add files, which doesn't automatically switch after creation. The text boxes for writing questions are too small, making it hard for candidates to view all at once, and the AI grading input is small and hard to read. It's unclear what can be edited within an assessment. AI grading can't auto-grade free response questions, they have to be reviewed manually. If a candidate takes the assessment twice, their solutions are saved, raising suspicion if they submit too quickly. There's no cheating detection on free response sections. Exporting data for analysis is difficult. There's more, but I'll stop there. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
