Availability to generate the code for multiple platforms (Windows/AIX/Linux/..) and different DB (Oracle/IBM DB2/ MS SQL/...). Also, the support is quite fast if you provide a sample model where the error can be reproduced. **What do you dislike about CA Gen?** GUI is still Windows Forms.There are some tries to improve it but it is not there yet. **Recommendations to others considering CA Gen:** If you have many clients with different OS, DB and hardware, the CA Gen is the right product for you. **What problems is CA Gen solving and how is that benefiting you?** In Fintech we are using CA Gen for Core Banking System. We have many customers with different hardware and software and we are able to deliver the same product to each of them. ### 2. Also i like that its easy to create the front-end and back-end of the program. After a long time that i use this program i can see that the only problem i found is the one with the crashes. I learned that i need to save my work every little while just to be sure that everything is gonna be fine. **Recommendations to others considering CA Gen:** Its a good program that makes you complete the work depending of the project you work. It has some bugs but all the programs have those. **What problems is CA Gen solving and how is that benefiting you?** I code banking systems with CA Gen. Its easy to create the front end of the program. Not many experts available to support 3. Plug in to connect with external API gateways needs more details on how to use and with real examples in forums. **What problems is CA Gen solving and how is that benefiting you?** 1.Building new screens based on product changes 2. Addition of new features to existing CA Gen screens to handle new requirements from customers . Main benefits realized: 1. Addition of new options in dropdown or functions to trigger once we click on button is easy to do 2. Easy to segregate functions based on when its triggered. 3. Handling of error messages and display is nice to do. ### 4. All the complexity is left to the compiler and not to the coder. In new age skills, Cloude, DevOps, Low Code/No Code etc are being talked about but in reality this all have been achieved in past with Mainframe + CA GEN based development, with some variations. Mainframe itself can be considered as cloud based solution where we pay as per use. **What do you dislike about CA Gen?** Dont see any downside of CA GEN apart from software licencing cost. Organisations are moving from CA GEN to other open source technologies mainly for cost savings. Another drawback is to generate standalone systems code which need to deploy on each client system using it. **What problems is CA Gen solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have been using CAGEN since last 2 decades. What I like most is to write complex batch programs in a much simpler way. Its moduler way of coding works like micro-services based architecture. Huge data processing can be done in a much simpler way as all the complexity, including database structure, is hidden from developer. ### 5. CA gen support object oriented programing and reusability of programs. It allows to generate the program in multiple programming language e.g. Java, C, Cobol etc. **What do you dislike about CA Gen?** It would be really useful if debugging feature can be integrated into CAgen studio. **What problems is CA Gen solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using CA gen programs for online screen designing, data capture and for reporting. the CA Gen allows error free programing and enables us to focus on logic rather than syntax and faster development. ### 6. Also, CA support of the product has been luke-warm since they purchased it from Sterling Software (who purchased it from Texas Instruments , the original developer of the product under the name IEF). **What problems is CA Gen solving and how is that benefiting you?** The benefits are improved productivity. It is faster to code an application in CA-GEN than in a traditional language such as COBOL, C++ or even Java. Plus, the flexibility to move the code between operating systems, languages and database without a loss of functionality or accuracy of the code is a huge benefit for organizations with multiple platforms and databases. The major problem solved by the software is the communications between different programmer teams using separate languages and databases. With CA-GEN you have one team writing the entire application then porting specific parts of the application to different environments.
