BioSonic Reviews & Product Details

BioSonic is a Swedish cloud-based AI platform that automates bat acoustic analysis for ecology consultancies, bat surveyors, and conservation researchers across Europe. The platform replaces the manual review of detector recordings, a process that traditionally takes days or weeks per survey, with automated species classification that runs in minutes. Built specifically for bioacoustic analysis, BioSonic uses image recognition technology to identify bat species directly from spectrograms. This approach differs from traditional AutoID systems and delivers 98.9% F1 accuracy on an independent benchmark, making it one of the most accurate AI classifiers currently available for European bat species. How BioSonic works: users upload WAV files from any standard bat detector to the cloud platform. The AI processes tens of thousands of recordings, automatically separates noise files from bat calls, identifies species, and isolates feeding buzzes and social calls. Results land in a browser-based review interface where surveyors can verify classifications, mark files for QA, comment, and collaborate with team members on the same project. The platform integrates with the full range of professional bat detector hardware: Song Meter, Pettersson, Batlogger, Echometer, AudioMoth, Anabat, Avisoft, and twelve additional brands. BioSonic automatically extracts date, time, and GPS coordinates from file metadata. Where metadata is missing, the system resolves it on upload. Confidence scoring is fully customizable. Surveyors can set species-specific thresholds so that high-confidence identifications process automatically while uncertain calls are flagged for manual review. This balance between automation and expert oversight makes BioSonic suitable for regulatory work, including protected species assessments, environmental impact assessments, wind farm bat surveys, and long-term biodiversity monitoring projects. BioSonic operates on a pay-per-project model based on data volume uploaded, with no software to install and no hardware lock-in. Projects, files, and colleagues are organized centrally, supporting both small consultancies and larger ecology firms running parallel surveys. The platform is used by leading ecology consultancies and biodiversity teams across the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, and Sweden. Independent users have reported analysis time reductions of 66% or more, with workloads of 100,000 files moving from two weeks of manual review to two days. BioSonic was founded in Stockholm by Josef and Jonathan Carlson with the goal of giving bat workers the tools to survey longer, detect rare species more reliably, and deliver protected species reports faster. The platform is built for the realities of professional bat surveying: large recording volumes, varied detector hardware, regulatory requirements, and the need for traceable, verifiable species identification.
