What do you like best about AWS Fargate?

What I like most about AWS Fargate is that it removes the need to manage servers for containerized applications. This lets teams stay focused on building and deploying containers while AWS takes care of infrastructure provisioning, patching, scaling, and availability in the background. I especially appreciate the serverless operational model.

For example, when processing incoming files from S3, EventBridge can trigger workflows that launch Fargate tasks on demand. Those tasks run the required processing and then automatically terminate once the work is complete. As a result, there’s no idle infrastructure sitting around, and the overall operational effort is significantly reduced.

For long-running workloads with predictable utilization, EC2-backed containers can sometimes be more cost-effective. What do you like best about AWS Fargate?

What I like most about Fargate is that it completely eliminates cluster management. Before Fargate, a significant chunk of engineering time went into managing EC2 instances, patching AMIs, right-sizing node groups, and dealing with cluster scaling. With Fargate, all of that goes away: we define the task, set CPU and memory, and AWS handles the rest. That shift alone freed up meaningful engineering bandwidth for actual product work.

Per-task resource isolation is another practical benefit that’s easy to overlook. Each task gets its own dedicated compute, so the noisy-neighbor problems that used to plague our shared EC2 clusters simply don’t exist anymore.

The UI/UX has also improved noticeably with the ECS console redesign. Viewing running tasks, checking container logs directly from the console, and navigating service configurations feels intuitive enough for day-to-day operations. CloudWatch integration puts logs essentially one click away from the task detail view, which speeds up debugging considerably compared to SSHing into EC2 instances. For more complex deployments, though, most teams naturally move toward Infrastructure as Code via CDK or Terraform, where Fargate’s clean abstractions make container infrastructure easy to express concisely.

On the AI/Intelligence side, Fargate has become our go-to runtime for ML inference workloads and AI pipeline tasks. Being able to run GPU-enabled Fargate tasks means we can deploy containerized model inference endpoints without managing GPU instances directly. It also integrates cleanly with SageMaker pipelines and Step Functions for orchestrating multi-stage AI workflows, turning Fargate into a flexible execution layer for intelligent workloads rather than just a container runtime.

Support and onboarding is another area where AWS generally delivers well. The Fargate documentation is thorough, and the getting-started guides are practical enough that our team went from zero to a running production service within a day. AWS re:Post and the broader community have answers for most common Fargate issues, which reduces reliance on formal support tickets. For teams on Business or Enterprise support plans, response times are solid, and the technical depth of support engineers is generally strong. One unexpected benefit was the availability of AWS workshops and hands-on labs specifically for ECS and Fargate, which accelerated our team’s onboarding considerably and reduced the usual ramp-up friction that comes with adopting a new infrastructure paradigm.

Integration with the broader AWS ecosystem feels seamless. ECS task definitions connect naturally with IAM roles, CloudWatch, ALB, and Secrets Manager. Performance scales predictably, and Fargate Spot has cut our batch-processing costs considerably for fault-tolerant workloads. From a pricing perspective, the pay-per-use model with no idle capacity makes the ROI case straightforward, especially for variable or spiky workloads. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AWS Fargate?

My biggest frustration with Fargate is cold-start latency. Task startup times can range from 30 seconds to over a minute depending on image size, which makes it a poor fit for latency-sensitive or rapidly scaling workloads. Unlike EC2, where instances are already warm, each new Fargate task has to pull the image and bootstrap from scratch, and that overhead really adds up during traffic spikes.

Networking configuration is another major pain point. VPC networking, security groups, and ENI attachment for Fargate tasks come with a steeper learning curve than they should. ENI trunking limits on how many tasks can run per instance type have caught us off guard during scaling events, and troubleshooting networking issues without direct host access is genuinely difficult.

The debugging experience, while improved, still has room to grow. ECS Exec now provides shell access into running containers, which is a welcome addition, but the setup requires specific IAM permissions and SSM agent configuration that adds friction. It works, but it’s not as seamless as simply SSHing into an EC2 instance, and it still falls short when a container has already crashed and you need post-mortem access.

On pricing, Fargate can get expensive for steady-state, always-on workloads. The per-task compute pricing often ends up costlier than equivalent reserved EC2 capacity at sustained usage, so teams running predictable baseline loads may find EC2 or Graviton instances more economical. Cost visibility in the console also isn’t granular enough out of the box, which means you need additional tagging discipline and Cost Explorer queries to understand spend at the service level.

UI-wise, the ECS console still lags behind what I’d expect for a mature service. Bulk operations, task filtering, and cross-region visibility feel underdeveloped, and those gaps often push teams toward third-party tooling sooner than necessary. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is AWS Fargate solving and how is that benefiting you?

Fargate addresses the core issue of infrastructure overhead for containerized workloads. When we managed EC2 clusters, we had to constantly stay on top of capacity planning, node patching, scaling policies, and overall cluster health, work that didn’t directly add product value. Fargate removed that entire layer (and the engineering time that came with it), so the team can focus on application logic instead of infrastructure plumbing.

It also solves the problem of inconsistent resource utilization. With EC2 clusters, we were almost always either over-provisioning to cover peak load or scrambling when unexpected spikes hit. Fargate’s task-level resource model lets us pay for what each workload actually needs, and scaling happens at the task level rather than the instance level, which has been both more efficient and more predictable.

For our AI and ML workloads in particular, Fargate has made it much easier to spin up isolated, reproducible compute environments for inference and batch processing. Each pipeline stage runs in its own container with dedicated resources, which has eliminated the environment inconsistency issues that previously led to hard-to-reproduce failures in our data workflows.

Our security posture has improved as well. Per-task IAM roles and network isolation reduce the blast radius if a container is compromised, especially compared to a shared EC2 environment where containers could potentially reach instance-level credentials.

Overall, the result has been faster delivery cycles, less operational toil, and a smaller infrastructure team footprint. We’ve been able to scale our containerized services significantly without having to scale the team managing them at the same rate, which is the clearest measure of the ROI Fargate has delivered for us. What do you like best about AWS Fargate?

The platform integrates with both Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), which provides critical flexibility for our different development teams and their preferred orchestration tools.

The core functionality operates around a few key components that streamline our deployment processes:

• Task Definitions: The system relies on Task Definitions, which act as blueprints for our applications. Within these definitions, we specify the container image, networking settings, and precise resource allocations like CPU and memory. Fargate uses this blueprint to provision and run our containers without us needing to select or manage EC2 instances.

• Serverless Operation: The defining feature is its serverless nature. Fargate automatically provisions the necessary on-demand compute resources for our containers to run, effectively eliminating tasks like server patching, cluster capacity planning, and scaling of the underlying virtual machines.

• Granular Resource Allocation: We have fine-grained control over the resources allocated to each task. Fargate allows for specific CPU and memory configurations, which enables us to tune performance and optimize costs for different workloads, from simple web APIs to more intensive data processing jobs that can scale up to 16 vCPU and 120 GB of memory.

• Automated Scaling: The platform integrates natively with ECS and EKS auto-scaling policies. This allows our applications to scale the number of running tasks up or down automatically based on defined metrics such as CPU utilization or network traffic. This ensures our services remain responsive during traffic spikes while minimizing costs during quiet periods.

• Security and Isolation: Security is improved through its design, as each Fargate task or pod runs in its own isolated compute environment with a dedicated kernel. This prevents workloads from sharing underlying resources. We further secure our applications by using AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles for granular permissions, security groups, and network ACLs within our Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC).

• Integrated Tooling: Fargate works seamlessly with other AWS services. It integrates with Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) to distribute traffic across healthy containers, enhancing application availability. For observability, it provides built-in integration with Amazon CloudWatch, which gives us real-time access to logs and performance metrics like CPU and memory usage. While the abstraction of infrastructure is Fargate’s main advantage, it also introduces certain limitations. The primary aspect we find challenging is the lack of direct control over the underlying compute environment. For most of our applications, this is not an issue. However, for workloads that require specific OS-level configurations, custom kernel parameters, or access to specialized hardware not available through Fargate’s launch configurations, we cannot use it. The most significant problem AWS Fargate has solved for us is the elimination of operational overhead associated with managing container infrastructure. Before Fargate, our teams spent considerable time provisioning, configuring, scaling, and patching server clusters to run our containers. Fargate has completely removed these responsibilities, allowing our developers and DevOps engineers to shift their focus from infrastructure maintenance to building and improving our applications.

This shift has directly resulted in accelerated development and deployment cycles. "My Experience Using AWS Fargate"

What do you like best about AWS Fargate?

Best thing about AWS Fargate is there is no hassle to set up any Ec2 instance all the manual configuration hassle. Fargate abstracts all the server configuration and users do not need to provision or manage any servers.

Users just need to specify the CPU and memory requirements for their containers, and AWS automatically provisions the necessary compute resources to meet those requirements.

On running servers that requires no down time aws fargate is the best choice for it.

What do you dislike about AWS Fargate?

Pricing part of aws fargate is a little complex you can check thier document for more info.
