What I like most about AWS CodeDeploy is how it automates application deployments across different compute platforms while keeping downtime to a minimum. It makes release management easier and supports multiple deployment strategies, including rolling updates, blue-green deployments, and canary releases.
Its integration with the broader AWS ecosystem also helps streamline CI/CD pipelines and cuts down on manual deployment work. In particular, I find the blue-green deployment capability especially valuable.
For example, when deploying a new application version, CodeDeploy can gradually shift traffic to the new environment while monitoring health metrics. Complex deployment workflows that span multiple environments and services often require careful, detailed configuration. For new users, it can take time to understand lifecycle hooks and to troubleshoot deployment failures effectively. The initial setup may feel somewhat complicated, particularly when you’re configuring deployment groups, lifecycle hooks, and rollback strategies.
