**What do you like best about AWS Cloud9?**

The best part of AWS Cloud9 is that I don’t need to setup big local env on my laptop. I just open browser and start coding from anywhere. It already come with many tools pre installed so I save time on configuration. For team work it’s good because we can share env and see each other changes, like pair programming. Also it connect easy with other AWS service so deploy is more simple. Sometimes it feel little slow on heavy project, but overall I like the flexibility it give.

  ### 15. Convenient Cloud-Based IDE with Strong AWS Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Cloud9?**

AWS Cloud9 makes it incredibly easy to start coding immediately without having to set up or maintain a local environment. The built-in terminal, code editor, and debugger feel seamless, and the environment spins up quickly. I also love that projects run inside an EC2 instance, so the compute environment mirrors production. Real-time collaboration and the ability to share environments with teammates are big advantages. It integrates well with AWS services, and switching between IAM roles, Lambda functions, and the CLI inside the IDE saves a lot of time. It is really easy to use once it is set up, and i use it quite frequently

**What do you dislike about AWS Cloud9?**

The performance can be inconsistent, especially for larger workspaces, and the IDE can lag compared to local desktop IDEs. Pricing can also become confusing because you pay for the EC2 instance behind the environment. Some features feel dated, especially compared to VS Code extensions and UI responsiveness. Offline usage is impossible, and Cloud9 sometimes disconnects if the network quality drops. Integration with modern dev tools could be deeper. Intial set up is little hard mainly for people with less technical background.

**What problems is AWS Cloud9 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it when I need to quickly spin up a clean environment to test Python or C++ scripts without worrying about local dependencies. For example, when I was debugging a data-processing script that needed specific AWS CLI permissions, Cloud9 let me run everything inside an EC2 instance with the right IAM role—no manual configuration on my laptop. It also helps when I switch between machines; my workspace is always ready, and I can pick up exactly where I left off.

  ### 16. Seamless IDE

It's Not "Free," It's "Free-ish": While the IDE software itself has no cost, you pay for the underlying EC2 instance and EBS storage 24/7.
The "Stop vs. Terminate" Confusion: This is a critical and often costly distinction.
Risk of Unexpected Bills: Forgetting to stop an environment running a powerful instance can lead to a surprisingly high monthly bill.
Vendor Lock-In and Limited Customization

**What problems is AWS Cloud9 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problem 1: "My development environment is a unique, fragile snowflake."
Benefits:
Faster Onboarding: New developers can be coding in minutes, not days.
Eliminates "Works on My Machine": Code behaves the same in every environment, from development to production.
Focus on Code, Not Setup: You spend time developing features, not fighting with dependency hell.

Problem 2: "I need powerful tools to work with AWS, but the setup is clunky."
Benefits:
Zero-Config AWS Power: You can interact with AWS services immediately and securely without managing keys.
Ideal for Serverless Development: It is arguably the best platform for building, testing, and debugging serverless applications on AWS.
