On regular basis we see at least few records coming in as duplicate. To avoid duplicate record processing we had to write ourown login and cache the records in redis. We use KCL to consume the data and some of the default confuration can lead to data loss. We had to checkpoint every record and it seems by default checkpoint also connects with Kinesis that results in more than 5 connection to Kinsis within seconds resulting in error. We eneded up lossing data in production because of this issue **Recommendations to others considering Amazon Kinesis Data Streams:** I think Kinesis should have way to achive exactly-one reocrd delivery option. **What problems is Amazon Kinesis Data Streams solving and how is that benefiting you?** We push records to Kinesis coming from varioud souces and after consuming those using they result into emails. Its the SaaS version of Apache kafka. With very high throughput distributed. I run a Lambda function that takes data from my raw kinesis stream, process it and save it in to database for direct fetch anytime. The simplicity of not having to manage the overhead of service discovery and administering Kafka will speed up your development. It ties simply and easily into other data architecture features that AWS provides, and so it is a natural choice for a lot of different data problems. **What do you dislike about Amazon Kinesis Data Streams?** The Ruby APIs and documentation are pretty rough.
