  ### 10. Great IDE for programming ATmel chips and Arduino boards for IoT applications

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arturo D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Arduino IDE?**

I really like the Arduino IDE because it is a very user-friendly and easy-to-understand interface. It has several basic programming examples in C language by default, which greatly helps the user when programming peripherals on the Arduino board. Arduino IDE has excellent tools where we can choose the serial port and the speed at which we want to work. When programming, the program tells you which lines of code are wrong, which can help us a lot in very long programs. The color system in the lines of code is very understandable for the user. A very useful tool is the serial monitor, where we can see on our screen the digital and analog inputs and outputs of the program we are making; it is very useful to have real data on our programming. Another great point is including libraries in the Arduino IDE.

**What do you dislike about Arduino IDE?**

I don't like the fact that Arduino IDE doesn't have online adaptations, it would be nice to program from the cloud. Sometimes during the compilation of a very extensive program, it is difficult to find the error because Arduino IDE does not specifically search for the error. The software has some flaws when it comes to connecting with the physical Arduino board, and this causes problems during the program compilation.

**Recommendations to others considering Arduino IDE:**

With this software, I have created many programs for my studies and my work. With this platform, I have been able to create programs that work only virtually and/or physically. Since it operates on C language programming, it is very simple, and this has helped me create numerous projects in a short time.

**What problems is Arduino IDE solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I advise all Arduino IDE users that when the program does not load their Arduino board, they should connect and disconnect the cable from the serial port. They can also change the internal port configuration from Windows in Device Manager. This program is excellent for creating small robotics projects, so I recommend using it for these cases. Arduino IDE is an excellent compiler for this type of project.

  ### 25. Arduino to program robots in secondary education

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alfonso M. | diego freelance, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Arduino IDE?**

The best thing is the versatility it offers students to develop their own programs to implement on the board and microcontroller Arduino Uno or similar. Multiple projects can be made adapted to the skills of each of the levels of secondary education.
We have made a greenhouse with an Arduino 1 board, a light sensor, and a motor that operated a fan. From Arduino, we have programmed the sensors and actuators. The program allows for pre-compilation to detect syntax errors. Once there are no errors, the object code obtained from the source is transferred to the Arduino ONE board via USB.

**What do you dislike about Arduino IDE?**

It is quite difficult to use for younger children who have never had contact with programming. Fortunately, there are add-ons like Scratch 4 Arduino that make this task easier through very simple graphical interfaces for the little ones. You need to have quite a bit of Arduino hardware to be able to test the programs, which is somewhat expensive.

**Recommendations to others considering Arduino IDE:**

For the little ones, combine with S4ARDUINO as it will greatly facilitate the learning of students with less exposure to software development.

**What problems is Arduino IDE solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The beginning in programming for people who have never had contact with it and the creation of different intelligent and moving models. For example, light sensors that activate a motor to lower a blind, heat detectors to start a fan, motors for elevators, cars that move by detecting objects and changing gears... Etc.

  ### 40. Arduino

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Arduino IDE?**

Arduino IDE is a very lightweight, cross-platform application that introduces programming for beginners. This application is accessible from the cloud. Arduino IDE comes with a board management module, where users can select the board they want to work with at the moment. If they want to change it, they can do so easily.

With Arduino IDE, users can create programs with a text editor.

Arduino IDE works on the three most popular operating systems: Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. This IDE has more than 700 built-in libraries. This makes the use of the application more extensive than limited to proprietary boards.

**What do you dislike about Arduino IDE?**

The learning curve is steep and requires extensive knowledge of programming languages to develop decent programs. There are better options for more novice users, such as Scratch for Arduino. Other aspects I didn't like were that sometimes it is too slow when loading codes and needs to be restarted frequently. Loading code onto the hardware of Arduino Uno boards is a tedious task.

**Recommendations to others considering Arduino IDE:**

Highly recommended for users with knowledge in programming languages and syntax. Not so much for young users or beginners in computing.

**What problems is Arduino IDE solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I recommend users working with Arduino to use this IDE. It is capable of performing complex processes without straining computer resources such as RAM, processor, etc. With Arduino IDE, you can easily access contributed libraries and receive updated support for the latest Arduino boards.

  ### 41. Arduino

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elvira S. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2018

**What do you like best about Arduino IDE?**

What I like most about this program, whose name is Arduino, is how useful it is for programming boards with Arduino microcontrollers. Arduino IDE is a free development environment that, through a high-level programming language based on C, allows us to develop code to implement programs that will control the Arduino controllers so they can perform the desired commands. The best thing about Arduino boards is that we can connect sensors like light detectors, microphones, temperature sensors, motion sensors, sound sensors, position sensors, limit switches, etc. The program decides which actuators will come into play according to the signals received, and these can be rotors, AC motors, DC motors, speakers, colored LEDs, etc. In summary, with ARDUINO IDE, robots that react to their environment can be programmed. Additionally, the program is free and cross-platform. It is very lightweight and available online from the official website.

**What do you dislike about Arduino IDE?**

The worst thing about Arduino IDE is that although it is designed to help learn how to develop code for robots, the programming language used is very complex for novice users who have never seen a programming language. Fortunately, there are other options based on Arduino IDE for beginners, like Scratch For Arduino, with a much simpler interface. There are no more complaints about this program, because it works very well and provides great moments.

**Recommendations to others considering Arduino IDE:**

Arduino IDE is a very useful programming environment if you want to have fun creating software for the microprocessors of a robot or any system that requires microcontroller boards to react to environmental events.

**What problems is Arduino IDE solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Arduino IDE is used in our organization in the educational robotics modules. Numerous projects are carried out throughout a school year using Arduino IDE, such as a guardian robot that is in constant circulation (rolling around a room) and has an intruder detector and an alarm that activates alarms upon detecting movement in that room. It should be emphasized that it is free and does not require budget investment.

  ### 43. arduino

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Arduino IDE?**

Arduino is a development environment that will allow us to program the control boards of Arduino UNO and other similar boards using a programming language similar to C. We will be able to create real moving robots that, with the appropriate sensors, react to external stimuli through their actuators. There is a wide variety of Arduino elements for sale, and we can do everything with our development environment, which is not only versatile but also free.

**What do you dislike about Arduino IDE?**

If you use it in teaching with young students, it can be very difficult for them to start in a development environment like Arduino. But there are very attractive graphical options (S4A) with which Arduino can be complemented thanks to its compatibility. So this problem would be solved. Another disadvantage is that the Arduino software is of little use if it is not followed by a strong investment in boards, cards, sensors, and actuators. Other than that, I have no complaints, as I am delighted with Arduino.

**Recommendations to others considering Arduino IDE:**

I recommend Arduino for creating robotic projects easily and simply with students. There is even a module called S4A that makes the programmer's task easier.

**What problems is Arduino IDE solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have used Arduino with students ranging from 11 to 15 years old and they love it. We have made cars that avoid obstacles, fans that turn on when it's hot, alarms that detect movement, etc. We have installed Scratch For Arduino (S4A) which helped them a lot in creating the programs, as it is not with a written language but with puzzle-like pieces that they place.

  ### 44. Easy to learn and use

It is not hard to learn and there are lots of libraries that you can use

**What do you dislike about Arduino IDE?**

Most of the libraries that I use, I added them myself and it did not include them

**What problems is Arduino IDE solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to run a stepper motor (for 3D printing )

  ### 45. Arduino in the school

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vanesa H. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2018

**What do you like best about Arduino IDE?**

Arduino is an excellent software development environment that will allow you to program Arduino ONE boards and, with the necessary components, create fantastic dynamic automatons. Arduino also allows integration with another software called Scratch for Arduino, which, with a very simple interface, will enable you to program the boards with the Arduino microcontroller and carry out amazing projects. You will be able to read the information collected by the sensors (light, motion, proximity, sound, there are a thousand types!!), process it thanks to the program you develop with Arduino IDE, and obtain outputs that will activate the actuators (motion, sound,). It is ideal for working with children, they will love the robots that can be created, and they might even be encouraged to program themselves.

**What do you dislike about Arduino IDE?**

Sometimes it hangs and takes a long time to load the program from the PC via USB to the Arduino ONE board. If you have never programmed before or want to encourage younger ones to program robots, they will encounter an interface that is neither modern nor user-friendly. That is why S4Arduino should be installed on top to facilitate programming through blocks instead of the typical syntax of a conventional programming language. You need an extra expense on electronic components for the board we are going to program.

**Recommendations to others considering Arduino IDE:**

It will allow you to program Arduino ONE boards and create very eye-catching, almost intelligent projects, as long as you have the necessary physical components for your project. So keep in mind that you need not only software but also hardware.

**What problems is Arduino IDE solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Arduino to load the programs onto the Arduino ONE base boards. Then, with the proper configuration of sensors and actuators, cables, and the breadboard, we achieve different functionalities. We have programmed with Arduino IDE the necessary programs so that the lights in a house turn on automatically at night, a traffic light detects when a pedestrian presses the button to turn green, a thermal sensor that turns on a fan... And all in just a few hours.

  ### 46. Good IDE for Arduino
