The kind of database related services that AWS provides are nothing short of a miracle and the same goes for RDS whether. The best thing that you dont need to worry about the existing infrastructure and initially you don't have to worry about high costs of hardware procurement, RDS provides you with the pay as you go feature which has made the process of scaling much easier and user friendly. What amazed me was its compatibility with different db instances which made the process of its integration with my existing setup almost completely seamless. Amazon Aurora and RDS combined are I guess the best db management services out there and you have to worry about the backup as well as you get to decide the time period for which you want to keep the backup and incase of data loss when to recover it. Firstly, a caution to new users, initially navigating through the RDS interface can be a litlle tricky but once you get used to it, hopefully it won't be a problem to most. The only thing that I think needs improvement is the customer support and I am not talking about the advanced plan, it has outrightly good support, I am talking about the basic plan because at starting sometimes I felt that the I had more technical assistance from amazon it could have saved me some time. It helped majorly in solving my scalability problems and cost management as well as its pay as you go feature allowed me to avoid the features I wasn't initially requiring to use, also it's faster deployment capabilities gave me the scope for experimentation as well, so that's a plus point as well. Amazon manages the databases for you. There are many choices, from mySQL, to MariaDB, Postgres, and Amazon's own Aurora. There are built-in automated restarts and failovers, monitoring dashboards, logs and events, and upgrades. It saves a lot of devops management related to hosting databases. Ability to scale up and scale down seamlessly 2. The fact that it's managed and we don't need to maintain the infrusctucure. We only concentrate on business logic and database schema 3. It supports both SQL Server and Posgres technologies that we use 4. It's very easy to implement and pilot different solutions that we need 5. the fact we can use it on-demand making it OPEX. We have several different type of databases in our products - SQL Server, Postgres different versions. We use RDS to simplify the management, improve scalability, availability and reliability. Signing up with Amazon RDS is relatively easy and there are so many features that are offered. The backup is automated while the architecture can be scaled and replication is managed automating the complexity of the database out of the user’s way. Amazon RDS is a friendly user but its underlying infrastructure is not accessible in advanced configuration. But at the same time, the extensive feature set is a positive, but ties in with a negative — cost, especially for large workloads. RDS is a great answer for the large majority of your needs, however, it may be limited in its flexibility should you need to create something more complicated.
