Akismet stops comment spam from bots and abusive humans to wordpress powered sites.

It is not 100% effective all the time but it does reduce our load of checking spam comments to just a few seconds as Akismet already stops most spam comments.

I combine Akismet with Google Captcha to further prevent other spam that Akismet could not determine, especially those manual human comment spam.

Akismet stops comment spam excellently. A few passes through, maybe because it is not yet added to their database, but it is manageable compared to when Akismet is not being used.

After a few days of starting a new WordPress blog, you will eventually start getting spam from countless bots. That's just the start of it. It will turn into a maelstrom of spam bots that become unbearable -- at least for me. But as soon as I implemented Akismet, my spam all but disappeared. I can breathe again. In the words of Steve Jobs, "It just works." Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What I don't like about this service is the licensing service, which is muddy for me in operating a non-profit with zero finances available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like the “set it and forget it” nature of Akismet. It is quite simple to use and setup, there is good documentation available on the Akismet website. It works pretty well to filter out spam most of the time, and I’ve never had an ounce of trouble with it. Akismet pricing has a basic plan that let you decide what Akismet is worth and then pay that amount. The Enterprise plan is affordable, consider that you can use it with large number of checks and unlimited sites. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There are cases where Akismet alone is not enough to stop spam. A large number of spam submissions is generated by automated spam bots. But manually submitted spam submissions are also in huge numbers. So you might need to setup another layer of protection. Akismet can reduce spam to a tolerable level but it will not totally eliminate it. Also, while it is great at filtering spam submission, sometimes a legit lead can get caught in the filter.
