**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zainab P. | Computer Scientist, Research, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Orange?**

I think Orange has served me well for the front-end of ML as compared to some of the other GUI tools available out there. It has a good selection of test data which does not require acute supervision. The widgets are well developed and I have never had any issues with them either.

**What do you dislike about Orange?**

Two major issues. The file loading feature does not seem to work for me, and I'm not sure if that is just my installation of it or a general problem with Orange. The other thing is that it does not have any cloud or web support, nor is it platform compatible. So you are pretty restricted in the choice of platforms you are using it on.

**Recommendations to others considering Orange:**

I think Orange is a good tool to understand data workflows and play around with the widgets.

**What problems is Orange solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The dashboards and reporting tools are what I use the most in Orange, as a part of the anaconda toolset. The visual features and the widgets make it easy to analyze concepts and data, which is hard to understand just by looking at it.

  ### 27. Intuitive Data Science

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kay W. | Founder and president, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Orange?**

Orange sports an easy to pickup interface that allows even none data experts to get a handle on things fast, without having to go through many manuals and tutorials.
It is also very extensible, adding a manifold of analytic features through its rich plug-in library. Adding to all of that the fact that Orange is completely open source, this software simply can not be ignored by any data professional in the field!

**What do you dislike about Orange?**

Theres not much to dislike when it comes to Orange. Things that could be improved upon are desktop application size (it currently clocks in at 422 MB), especially when it comes to version updates where you have to completely download everything from scratch and reinstall the entire suite.
Loading times at the beginning can also a bit long (1 to 2 mins, depending on your PC or server).
When creating data modelling and analytic workflows auto-save and "undo" features may be helpful when working on more complex processes.

**Recommendations to others considering Orange:**

Learning by doing: Orange is VERY rich on guidelines, tutorials and templates. However, in my experience, its easy enough to be mastered by simply using it.

**What problems is Orange solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Orange especially for its strength in none structured data/text mining features, using its dedicated text mining plugin. There we analyze sentiments for Twitter (through its API) and LinkedIN (using the text import tool) and correlating that data with sales results for our customers.
In addition to that, I use Orange also at Universities where I teach to introduce Data Science as one of the key fields for achieving Digital Transformation.

  ### 28. Orange Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abhi D. | PHP Developer and Software Tester, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2019

**What do you like best about Orange?**

It is open source and has a very interactive data visualization. It is for everyone for a beginner as well as professional level. Orange supports visual programming and it executes a simple as well as complex data analysis. It is used to create beautiful and interesting graphics. Orange supports extend functionality. It supports cross platform GUI. Advanced functions for expert level are included. But it will take lots of patience and practice to reach that level. The training, contact support and implementation can be easily monitored.

Above all, the GUI is very attractive and simple to access. It helps neophyte students to study it perfectly and implement on will.

**What do you dislike about Orange?**

The install is big since you need to install QT. Machine learning is not handled uniformly between the different libraries.

Orange is weak in classical statistics; although it can compute basic statistical properties of the data, it provides no widgets for statistical testing

Reporting capabilities are limited to exporting visual representations of data models.

Problematic if your algorithm is super advanced because few of the special data mining techniques might not be supported by Orange tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Orange:**

Easy and user friendly to use.

**What problems is Orange solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it for learning purpose in the last year. For now, I am working on the algorithm to optimize the already built HRMS system. I am trying to activate auto allocation of the admin and trainer for which I have created an algorithm. I am analyzing the same using the Orange tool.

  ### 29. Sagacious use of Orange Software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shivam R. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2018

**What do you like best about Orange?**

This software provides a myriad number of predefined options that can be applied on a data-set. It provides options for data visualisation, machine learning and data mining. The thing which I admired the most of this software that it has widgets available for different classification algorithm like naive bayes, decision tree, neural networks and many others. There is no need of writing a single line of code, we have to just load the data-set and pass it to one of the predefined widgets and we can get the output. It should be noted that we can also modify the parameters in a particular widget, for example : In neural network widget we can change the number of neurons and add customised hidden layers in order to build a suitable neural network for a definite purpose.

**What do you dislike about Orange?**

The software is of great use to the newcomers in the field of data mining and machine learning, they can experiment with different algorithms and learn from it. However, there are some minor flaws in the software which I dislike. Some of the widgets available in the software only takes a specific kind of input that has been an output of another widget. This inputs are not explicitly mentioned and so thats why sometimes it is difficult to figure out the error of why the widget is not accepting the input. Instead it should be mentioned in each widget about the inputs and outputs in a detailed way.

**Recommendations to others considering Orange:**

It is marvellous tool to explore for data visualisation and machine learning. Many projects can be easily implemented using this free software which is straightforward to handle.

**What problems is Orange solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Currently, I have been working on a project of face recognition in Orange Software, and it has been remarkably useful to me. I have collected the data-set and stored it in by converting the images into array of pixel values. This data-set is loaded into the Orange software and I have trained a neural network to identify the faces of the people. The most important benefit I have realised about this software is I do not need to write code for my neural network, I can just drag and drop the neural network widget and change the parameters like loss function, activation function and number of neurons.
