Been using GIMP for a while and it is the best open source image editor out there which is a tough competitor to paid photo editor.

Gimp is an open source project so has pros and cons related to that and the features can't match up to paid counterparts but it still gets the podium .

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GIMP is very easy to use and has lots of learning material out there which makes it easy to use and navigate and makes image manipulation a piece of cake.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abhishek G. | Guyana In-Country Offshore Installation Coordinator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Best thing about GIMP is that it is a Free and open source alternative to photoshop. With this I was able to edit images to a extent that it is not possible to do with any free software.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

The interface is a little clunky and old fashioned. Someone needs to take gimp as the base and make it easier for newbies.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used it for editing images that I had put in my Master's thesis.

  ### 4. Creativity at it's finest, GIMP is here to stay

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2022

Gimp is free and easy to use for even someone with no experience. I have been using Gimp at work for many years to create different visuals for my responsibilities at the office.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Gimp seems not to be commonly used. None of my coworkers had heard of this program, so I think it has not gained much traction yet. On the other hand, I think it is lovely to use and work with.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

Gimp is an excellent choice for all skill levels. Highly recommend.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gimp helps me solve the problem of needing creative visuals that can not be done in simple MS paint or similar free and simple programs. Gimp allows much more control over colors, textures and more.

  ### 5. Really good and cheap alternative

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Subrata S. | VR Developer , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Gimp caters to all the needs of a designer no matter it is a professional or a beginner designer. It provides all the features and functionalities that is provided by its competitors but the best part about GIMP is that it is a open source software that makes it free to use.gimp even though free has a really good community behind it that helps in solving all kind of minor problems faced by the user.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Though GIMP is one of the best image editing tools out there it still has some minor cons that can make a user not prefer this, especially the UI since it is an open source software the ui elements are not very clean and feels a little cluttered that decreas the overall experience of using it, apart from that some minors bugs are also present but are usually fixed through regular updates.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

For anyone who is looking for a simple easy and quick to use image editing tool

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GIMP has been an essential tool for us in terms of image editting its simple and quick to use and overall its an open source free application that helps in cost cutting and avoiding buying expensive image editing applications even if the use is to open some basic images and provide slight modification or manipulation in it.Its wide variety of support for different image files also makes it very convenient to use.

  ### 6. If you don't have Photoshop, use this.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyler T. | IT Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

GIMP is the most intuitive image application I've ever used outside of Photoshop. I had access to layers and all the essential retouching tools I usually enjoy in Photoshop. Airbrushing, gaussian blur, hue, and saturation adjustments are all there. All I had to do was ask, "what would I do next in Photoshop?" Then I just found the GIMP equivalent or reach out to the vast community that supports this application and quickly find a solution.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Well, let's be clear: it's not Photoshop. It does a great job mimicking many basic retouching tasks, but it lacks Photoshop's precision. It also lacks Photoshop's extensive color palette library and tight integration with Adobe's brethren. While I have used it for several web and on-screen graphics, I don't see GIMP as something I'd use for retouching a magazine display ad.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it for retouching web and on-screen graphics. If I need to crop a picture while only equipped with a laptop, GIMP comes in handy. As an IT manager, my graphical needs aren't very intense, so using GIMP saves our organization from purchasing another expensive Adobe license. It's also convenient to access a reasonably powerful image editing application while in the Linux environment.

  ### 7. Best Image Manipulation Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nitin B. | System Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 11, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

GIMP is simply the best Image Manipulation Software available for free, and it is entirely open-source. It is pretty easy to use and is my go-to software for image editing.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

There is nothing to dislike once you get friendly with the interface, but it might come as a very overwhelming tool for absolute beginners, given that there is too much to explore.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

Do try this before making any bias towards it.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the name suggests, GIMP is for image editing. It provides various tools within the software, which come in handy in situations like merging and stacking multiple images. If you are a photographer and need to blur/sharpen something, flatten the image, manipulate hue/saturation, and whatnot, you can do it all with this.

  ### 8. GIMP - A great image editing utility

It's open-source, available for various platforms like Windows, RHEL, CentOS etc. An individual can perform many types of image editing features at various layers.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Nothing as of now. Although GIMP offers various image editing features but most industrial professionals use Adobe Photoshop. So advertising GIMP more can make a better reach of it.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

A useful utility for editing images at various layers.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing & creating photos/icons used in software applications. Customising image features like Transparency, HSV, RGB components pixel-wise at various layers of an image.

  ### 9. Great image editing tool for education

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

The photoshop tools are great for the editing of images.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing images that can be used in the classroom. The features on the platform are great to obtain the right width and height for my diagrams

  ### 10. Gimp is a good option for those who want a very good photo editor and use it for free.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Md Minhajuddin K. | Javascript Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

It is very easy to learn and start using. A very beginner can use it without any hastle. It takes very less time to become acquainted with its user interface.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Some advance features of photoshop is not there

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can create thumnails, tweak photos and edit them for my personal usage.

  ### 11. GIMP has all what you usually look for when searching for popular software alternatives

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kfir M. | Journalist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Every feature, either simple or complicated has perfect documentation and many tutorials, both official and by users. Also, it feels like it perfoms better than the highly priced software.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

The menus may get lost between multiple monitors, and the constant disconnection between the main window and the toolbars is somewhat misleading and hard to get used to, especially if you close one of them.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for any graphical edition I need to perform - in my case - removing the background and creating transparent PNGs. Also, I use it for making some funny photo editions for personal use.

  ### 12. Imagen editor

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aurelio R. | Ad Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I like the options and functions of editing images, removing backgrounds and moving logos and labels to other products.
Work with multiple windows and tabs for different editing projects simultaneously.
Compatible with Linux and Windows, share projects between users with different operating systems.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

It lacks a better vision of options, GUI and improves the code for greater fluidity in multiple work sections.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Image editing, creation of custom brand logos and free code to save money on the private software license.

  ### 13. A cheap alternative to photoshop!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Graphic Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I downloaded Gimp when I was just playing around with design and not sure if it was something I wanted to pursue. It's not as high quality as Photoshop, but it got the job done. I've now been designing for years and use photoshop primarily, but still use Gimp for some features that photoshop doesn't have!

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

It is just a little glitchy, and would sometimes crash my old computer. It's lacking some features that Photoshop has as well. But hey, you get what you pay for!

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

Just look up Youtube videos to figure out how to use it. Its' not too complicated though and pretty straightforward! I would just download it and start playing around with it. It's pretty intuitive

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating PNGs, editing images, designing, editing flyers. It's budget-friendly and allows you to design without the commitment of purchasing an Adobe subscription.

  ### 14. Awesome Photo editor tool for Designers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sandeep v. | Business Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I used this tool for designing it have features like bucket fill, pencil, paintbrush, eraser, Airbrush many more similar features like the photoshop the only difference is its available for free

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

I don't dislike anything about this software its great software with great features

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

I will share this software with every designer

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a regular user of photoshop but I have to pay money for the features then I found this great software its available for free

  ### 15. Gimp image editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael J. | Line Technician, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

It's a full feature image editing software that's free and it's as powerful if not more so than Photoshop

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

It's a little difficult to understand all the tools and options however they do offer a manual online just not alot of tutorials that I know of

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

Get the documentation and read it. Also I do not have a screenshot of me logged in as I'm at work doing this review and my computer is at Home

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a great program if you're a photographer or web designer

  ### 16. Good but not great freeware

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2017

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I like that it has a lot of additional functionality compared to Paint, etc. It has a lot of features for free software. There are also some good tutorials out there to learn how to use.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

I’ve found it challenging to use and often had to utilize other software in combination to achieve desired results. The UI is overly complex. I currently rely on software other than GIMP.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

For freeware, it can help with some design/photo editing, but the learning curve is high and there are some other free programs that accomplish similar results with less difficulty. If you go with GIMP seek out tutorials online to help figure the features out.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I’ve used it to touch up and edit graphics. It is compatible with a lot of different file types and functions well when needing to view or convert different file types. The biggest benefit is that it's free.

  ### 17. Effective but clunky user interface

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mary N. | Freelance Writer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Given its development from an open-source model, GIMP has always had a surprisingly broad range of functionalities. It's powerful even when it comes to raw image generating. The reality is that GIMP has tools to do practically anything— if you can find those tools. Because of the way it developed, with functions added to fit user's needs over time, the capabilities match the needs of a broad range of users.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

The fact that GIMP is open-source is both a blessing and a curse. Letting people add their own features over time means that it has become a sprawling program, often with organizational challenges and a non-intuitive user interface. It's easy to get lost when looking for a tool. It's easy to fall down a navigational rabbit hole and struggle to figure out how to get back to where you were. There is very little clear guidance for the user on how to use tools. For this reason, there is a very steep learning curve when using GIMP, unless you've used multiple other photo editing softwares in the past. As it's become more cumbersome, load times have also at times been extraordinarily long. This is a slightly more minor note, however, it's worth commenting on the fact that the interface is really inelegant for a design software. There is something slightly offputting about a really clunky, visually displeasing design when the application's purpose is to create visual pieces.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

If you need a playground to learn image manipulation before investing in another tool, GIMP could be helpful for you. Consider it more a short-term solution than a long-term resource. Especially if you want to learn the nuts and bolts of image editing before using a more streamlined software that does a lot of the navigating and auto-correcting for you, GIMP is a great place to start.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the past, GIMP has been the perfect solution for a free, functional photo editing tool when I could not afford Adobe products. It's not pretty, but it's effective, and that efficacy has been a great resource when the budget is low (or nonexistent). It's also been a helpful introductory tool to teach others about how to photo edit.

  ### 18. A great alternative tool for Photo Editing!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cherry Ann O. | Customer Service Representative, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

It contains all of the tools that you are accustomed to seeing in other picture editing applications like Photoshop. It does an excellent job of keeping up with the times and incorporating new tools. The program's animation add-on is also quite cool. You may also discover what you need to make your photographs ideal; I'm still quite pleased with the filter. It's fantastic because it's free and may be used for quick and easy picture editing. Simply open the image, load it, and begin editing vector graphics with the use of various authoring resources. The clean interface and, notably, the ease of usage. Working with development teams is also made easier owing to the conversion into matrices.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Although it has many user instructions and videos on its usability, it still needs guidelines on various filters, effects, and color management. While the full-screen mode is inactive, its GUI lacks a solid backdrop and borders, which may be distracting and distinguishing for a user.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can edit, fix, combine, and trim various images for our social media platforms, as well as restore old photos. I also don't have to pay a membership fee to utilize it. It is also a good alternative for the newbies having a hard time learning photoshop and the storage needed is quite small than the other editing tool.

  ### 19. The Perfect Start for Beginners

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Treyanna B. | Certified Pharmacy Technician, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I love the full suite of painting tools such as brush, pencil, and airbrush as I am a crafter who designs logos and svgs for customers. It makes life easy!

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

It does become complicated to edit photos that are big and require more than two layers. Creating a good clean presentation can be challenging as well

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using fewer tools to design doesn't make it hard to create and bring out new ideas. It has helped me with learning within a short time frame.

  ### 20. Best open source image editing tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Diksha T. | Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

The best thing about GIMP is it is open source and lots of tools are available to edit graphics. Very easy to use, light weight and cross platform availability.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

There are no such big things to dislike this awesome product but there are dew things which can be improved like the tools are not properly approachable under the toolbox. We have to go to the category.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use this software for the image editing for various web applications, removal of background of the image, logo designing etc,. It is very lightweight and machine friendly.

  ### 21. Works extremely well as a Photoshop alternative

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I've used GIMP for years and it makes it easy to quickly edit and format graphics for web content.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

The UI takes a little bit of getting used to, but once you learn where things are located, it works well.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use GIMP to easily resize and format images.

  ### 22. Open-Source Image Software That Does It All!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott K. | Senior Agency Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

GIMP is a hugely powerful, modular-extensible image system that can tackle the toughest retouch jobs, but also creates images and animations and allows for an almost limitless translation between formats. I've used it for years, I greatly prefer it to its Adobe competitor, and it just keeps getting better, thanks to open-source development.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

GIMP has a bit of a learning curve, particularly if you're going to install any of the huge selection of plug-ins and filters that are available. It rewards your patience in spades, but it's not something you're going to be productive on in 10 minutes.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have done hundreds of photo retouch jobs with GIMP, and it's done everything I asked. It saves hundreds of dollars over professional retouching, and best of all, it's free! What I really love, though, is using its image manipulation tools to turn photographs into works of art.

  ### 23. Image editting software with many features

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civic & Social Organization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Gimp is an excellent alternative to Photoshop, providing many of the same tools and features. Gimp is my choice of free software when I need to create or edit an image for a project.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Gimp isn't always intuitive, and adding simple things like an outline to an object or layer can involve multiple steps. I wish there were more easy tools when working with text.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gimp allows me to create banners, flyers, logos and edit photos for online and print uses. Gimp is great for free image editing software.

  ### 24. Powerful Open Source Tool With Steep Learning Curve

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carissa B. | Novelist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I like having access to an abundance of digital tools with which to edit photos (occasionally) and create digital art (more often, either for recreation or professional graphic design purposes) without dropping a lot of money that I can't afford to spend.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

While I think GIMP has become a little more user-friendly over the years, it's still a complex program with a lot of tools I still haven't figured out how to properly use. I think it would definitely be overpowered/too complicated for the average person just looking to do minor tweaks on a photograph or create simple digital easily. (I sometimes use SmoothDraw 4 to draw and then go to GIMP to fine-tune what I've created there. Smoothdraw is a much simpler program designed for digital drawing/painting ONLY, and while this means it had a lot fewer tools, it's more user-friendly for the layman and sometimes the brushstrokes look a little more natural to me.) It can also be a bit crash-y on older/slower machines, so I'd recommend saving often just in case (though I would also recommend that with any other program).

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used to rely on PicMonkey to create and edit my book covers, until they stopped offering a free version and I couldn't afford the subscription. While GIMP was more frustrating to learn how to use effectively, at this point I've figured out how to use it to do almost everything I used to do with PicMonkey. And it's free. And offline. I'm a big fan of having offline options that I can use regardless of what my internet connection is doing.

  ### 25. Gets work done 70% of the time

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

It's free and open-source and setup is straightforward.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

The app is buggy and experience is laggy. The UI is cluttered too.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides decent albeit buddy photo-editing features at no cost.

  ### 26. A free image editing tool

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

If your needs are relatively straightforward and limited to digital/scanned images, the odds are that GIMP will suffice - and do a rather good job. The fact that it's free, open-sourced, and has the vast majority of image manipulation features that you'd expect all make this a very viable tool.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

The interface/UX can sometimes feel a bit busy, and even though there are several quick-codes or commands, I often find that I still have to search through the menu structure. I would love for the menus to be a bit more intuitive and easier to navigate.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GIMP is very well suited for deployment as a lightweight tool on workstations where the end-user is not expected to do heavy lifting within image editing but needs a simple yet powerful tool that is more than capable of basic-and-beyond image editing.

  ### 27. The free photoshop alternative

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2020

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

The fact that it is free. There is no way around it: you get a lot of features for zero payments. For beginners still learning their way around graphical design and photo editing this is a great starting point.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

If you switch from Adobe Photoshop, there will be a lot of features you miss. GIMP is not as easy to use and takes a while to get used to. But what did you expect when comparing a free tool to a very expensive one?

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

If you know how to navigate with open source software and communities, GIMP definitely is an option you want to consider. But be aware that not everything will be documented as precisely compared to licensed software suites such as Adobe Photoshop.

  ### 35. GIMP functions as a basic photo editing tool

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Posy Lou D. | Associate Marketing Coordinator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

GIMP is great because it's free. It has in-app purchases available, but you don't have to purchase anything to get started. It is similar to PhotoShop when it comes to some of its features and functionality.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

GIMP is not supported on iOS platforms which makes it difficult for Apple users to access. The desktop version is the most complex and is available to download for free.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

As mentioned, I think GIMP is a wonderful tool when it comes to basic photo editing needs; however, if you are using iOS devices, it may not be the best option for you. I also recommend adopting it via mobile browser extension rather than trying to navigate the app.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GIMP is a useful free alternative to PhotoShop. It can be used to edit and manipulate photos. If you need to transition to a low-cost option from PhotoShop, it serves as great tool to pivot.

  ### 36. Powerful open source software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bailey N. | Embroidery Manager - Embroidery Machine Operator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

You can do a lot of the basic functions you might be used to using in photoshop without paying a steep subscription fee.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

If you're used to the adobe suite, you might find the user interface a little awkward abd clunky. Doing things like resizing and rotating images, adding text, and making selections can feel like they take longer.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GIMP is great for putting together quick mockups, adjusting the levelsbon images, cropping, and adding text.

  ### 37. Best free Photoshop-like image editor out there

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taylor T. | Designer/developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Gimp has all the functionality that you'd require when it comes to a non-vector image editor. After learning all the necessary keyboard shortcuts for tools, editing has never been easier.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Configuring the interface when starting up my workflow proved to be a bit difficult. It seems like the scaling of the icons on the lefthand side of the interface was somewhat challenging to adjust. The documentation for the application can be a bit spotty, and the presentation feels a bit outdated, making education on the various tools feel challenging. Also, the animation tools provided feel a bit underbaked.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Downloading a free image editor that checks most of the boxes as Photoshop makes editing on the fly incredibly easy.

  ### 38. Well made Software

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2022

  ### 39. Easy entry level software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dave O. | Project engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Free, simple, and there were plenty of youtube videos to help with basics, how-to's etc, which enabled me to get started very quickly. Did i mention it is free!!? I definitely would recommend it!

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

There was no particular thing that i disliked about it. As long as you are patient and can follow instructions, then it does what it needs to do. It is a free photoshop alternative.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it for removing the background of photos, creating logos and general editing of images etc. I am still fairly new to using GIMP but I am finding my way around easily.

  ### 40. GREAT free alternative to more expensive editing software, even as complementary!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Broadcast Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2019

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

GIMP is really useful if you are starting out in photo editing, design, or creation of other projects. It's useful, thanks to many different capabilities that include those found in more advanced, purchasable softwares, while also keeping it user friendly for anyone in a business (such as our small radio company) to utilize.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Its still not a grand, expensive program for art creation, photo editing or logo/brand creation, and that comes with limitations. Its not perfect, but for the whopping price of FREE, how can you beat the customization, accessibility, etc.? You can't beat it.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

Do it. But watch some youtube videos about it first. Make sure to educate yourself on what you need GIMP for, and how to appropriately use it. It can be a bit overwhelming for newer photo editors/content creators, and it takes some time to get used to
However, when you DO get used to it, you'll find it AMAZINGLY helpful.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating art for advertisements, editing photos for the radio station and creating brand logos for the company itself. GIMP has solved the problem of us not needing/being able to purchase higher-end, more expensive software, while giving us EVERYTHING we need.

  ### 41. Easy and free photo editing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephi W. | Copywriter and Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I like that it makes it easy and free to edit photos using features usually found on paid platforms

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

There is definitely a learning curve at times and i've had to look on youtube to find solutions on how to do specific tasks that are unclear in the software itself.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have solved the need for advanced photo editing without paying for a software like photoshop. This has benefitted myself and others greatly as we've been able to save money without skimping on necessary tools.

  ### 42. A Good Linux Tool for editing Images/Photos

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andres R. | Programmer Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I like that the tool is free and open-source. That if you want to do a quick edit, the application does its job.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

The user experience. In the last version, the user experience improved on my taste, however, it's difficult for me to understand the advanced functions. For those, I prefer to use Paint.NET or Photoshop. I understand as it's an open-source tool but it has a long way to go in order to be an amazing tool. I hope in the next releases they improve the way it interacts with the users. In the versions before 2.10 I did not understand how to use the tool.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

Give it a try. Especially on free and open-source deserve a change to be tried and reviewed. If you don't like it so much, the best thing to can do it's to provide your feedback as all these kind of applications improve on the user based experience.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Image Editing

  ### 43. Good if you are on a budget

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Graphic Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2017

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I like that it's a free alternative to Photoshop. Many of the tools appear to be the same, which is helpful.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Since it's not an Adobe product, it doesn't work with the Adobe Creative Cloud. This hinders me a little, especially since I can easily put PSD files into my other programs. It's also clunky compared to Photoshop, but it's free, so I can't complain.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

If you have a small budget and small design needs, use Gimp. Otherwise, I recommend upgrading to Photoshop.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used this before I could afford to pay the monthly subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud. It worked good enough to edit photos and create the graphics that I needed to

  ### 44. Great free software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

This is simple to use and it is FREE! It has more advanced tools that I've not used yet.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

So far there's been no downside, I've been able to find what I need in help.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm not a graphic artist and I needed a way to manipulate some pictures for documentation.

  ### 45. Easy to use product

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nate S. | Systems administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Gimp is extremely easy to use for photo editing. I have little to no experience in this field and it is a breeze.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Logo designing. The ease of using this product is supprising. I have tried using photoshop in the past and have had a horrible time.

  ### 46. A great open-source alternative for photo and image editing.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis F. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

It's free. That, for starters, is a valuable point in its favor. When you aren't doing this all the time, it doesn't make sense to invest in a solution like Photoshop. The software works very well on my MS Surface 4. At times it can get slow but I think it's more my machine than the software itself. The amount of information on online forums and videos is great. The community is also a very valuable asset.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

The interface isn't gorgeous but functional. That would essentially be it in terms of dislikes considering it's a free tool.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

Though the program is free, it isn't necessarily easy to use. There are many resources online, but it isn't a program if you want something very simple. You are better off using Paint or Paint3D, or even Canva if you need something to use right off the bat or basic editing. Applying some effects may take a long time depending on your machine, so use a relatively strong rig.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for basic image editing and manipulation for work. The financial benefits are great and I've managed to do everything I've needed, so a few effects.

  ### 47. GIMP Review

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rob R. | Paid & Social Media Manager , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I think Gimp has a lot of great tools and features, similar to Photoshop for free or at a lower price. If you are not working in the advertising or marketing industry where everything has to be pictures perfect to the last dot, Gimp is for sure a software that has everything you possibly need to create graphics. For private use, Gimp is great , also because of the lower costs compared to other graphic design programs.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Gimp is a graphic design program that offers you a large variety of features and tools, but the quality is nowhere close to Photoshop. Sometimes I wished it would have had some more options and features - even just for my private images, nothing work related.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

Gimp is a good graphic design program, but don't expect it to be Photoshop.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used Gimp personally just for my own graphics at home. It was fun to use it, easy to handle, and did not take me too long to get it going. Creating images has always been something I enjoyed, and with gimp, a not too expensive program I was finally making the first steps into it. Even to I know to use Photoshop I still recommend Gimp for anyone starting with graphics. If you like what you are doing with Gimp, you may be ready to get to a more costly, effective program such as PH. Otherwise, you can do your graphics totally fine with just Gimp. I would almost say that Gimp is a great Entry-Level Graphic Design Program.

  ### 48. Depth and skill for free

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Corrine S. | Children's specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Accessible tools, plenty of plugins, and high-quality photo editing for free.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Coming from Adobe, it has a different interface that took some getting used to. But it was easy to get there.

**Recommendations to others considering GIMP:**

If you're looking for simple, straightforward editing, GIMP is impressive. It is not the Adobe sandbox, so there is a barrier to learning outside what most people are used to, but watch some tutorials, and you'll get photo editing with almost all the usage of Adobe without the costs.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GIMP helps eliminate the cost barrier to Adobe and helps create amazing graphics free of charge. It's a perfect fix.

  ### 49. Great, FREE Alternative to Photoshop

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Becky M. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 28, 2021

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

I love that it costs nothing and that it has so many tools available! The brushes, colors, etc., are numerous, and the software is easy to operate.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

The only thing I dislike about GIMP is that there are fewer tutorials on how to use the software than there are with other applications such as CLIP STUDIO or Photoshop.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My hobby is art, so I use it to create pictures. I have realized that it's a great tool to use that is entirely accessible to me and that it has a lot of technical components that place it against other competitors.

  ### 50. Great image edotor for small businesses

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Online Media | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2022

**What do you like best about GIMP?**

Loads quickly. Basic things for cropping and overlaying are easily available. You don't have to put too much time or buy a high end computer to use it. And the biggest thing is that it's free.

**What do you dislike about GIMP?**

Not as great as photoshop. But if you are ok with missing features or have lot of time to edit, then go for it. Also, the documentation is lengthy and you may not get quick help videos.

**What problems is GIMP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Image background editing, overlaying, these are the regular production issues for cataloguing that are best solved by this free software. Saves licensing cost.
