"Rich Features, Steep Learning Curve with GIMP"
What do you like best about GIMP?

I use GIMP primarily for photo editing, graphic design, and creating digital art. I really like its wide range of tools like layers, masks, filters, and customizable brushes, which make complex editing and creative projects possible without expensive software. I appreciate its open-source nature and flexibility, which allow me to experiment freely and efficiently. The incredible versatility and depth of GIMP, especially for a free program, is impressive. Features like layers, masks, customizable brushes, advanced selection tools, and extensive plugins make complex photo edits and creative projects achievable. I especially value its open-source nature, which allows constant updates, community support, and endless customization to fit my workflow perfectly. Layers and masks let me edit images non-destructively, keeping changes flexible. Customizable brushes and advanced selection tools speed up detailed work, while plugins expand functionality for specific tasks. Together, these features streamline complex edits, enhance creative control, and make GIMP a powerful, efficient, and adaptable tool for any project. The initial setup of GIMP was straightforward, with a simple download and installation process across multiple operating systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GIMP?

GIMP can feel unintuitive compared to commercial software, with a steeper learning curve for beginners. Some tools are slower or less polished, and interface inconsistencies can disrupt workflow. Improved performance, smoother navigation, and more streamlined tool options would make editing faster, easier, and more user-friendly without sacrificing its powerful features. "A Powerful Free Alternative to Photoshop"
What do you like best about GIMP?

The good thing about GIMP is that it is completely free and open-source yet it is endowed with many of those powerful features that you would expect to see in costly professional software. I appreciate that I do not have to worry about subscription charges or licenses GIMP enables me to access sophisticated edit tools without costing a cent. For freelancers, students, or those that must cut costs, it is a good deal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GIMP?

GIMP's largest problem is that its user interface is older than that of paid programs like Photoshop. It could look clumsy and sometimes illegible to new users. Some of its higher-end features are more difficult to access, and some processes require more steps. Furthermore, as an open-source program, updates and plug-ins sometimes come less smoothly and less well-designed than paid programs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Professional-Grade Editing Power, Completely Free"
What do you like best about GIMP?

GIMP delivers a professional‑grade image editor without the price tag, combining robust layer‑based tools, powerful retouching, and extensive plug‑in support. Cross‑platform, fast, and highly customizable, it’s a versatile choice for photo cleanup, design work, and batch workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GIMP?

GIMP is a powerful, free alternative for photo editing and design, with flexible layers, solid retouching tools, and lots of plug-ins. Its downsides are a steeper learning curve and weaker non-destructive and print (CMYK) workflows compared to pro suites. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy but quite basic"
What do you like best about GIMP?

It is free and available to everyone. It offers basic tools that can be sufficient for basic image editing. The interface is quite simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GIMP?

It is less professional and performant compared to other programs such as Photoshop. I don’t like color management (white balance, curves correction, selective color correction). It doesn’t have the native option to save files for the web (you need to add an old plugin available online – the latest version of Gimp didn’t support it, so I had to reinstall an earlier version of the software). It does not allow converting images to CMYK mode for printing. You need to use other software to do it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"It's free yet offers a variety of features, including background transparency and correction of distorted images."
What do you like best about GIMP?

GIMP is packed with features not found in other free software, and the following two features are particularly recommended. First, you can load a GIF file into GIMP, use the selection tool to choose the color of the area you want to make transparent, and delete it to easily make that area transparent. Second, by selecting the perspective tool in the transform tools and simply moving the corner handles, you can perform trapezoidal correction. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GIMP?

I think it's great that GIMP allows you to rearrange the interface to suit your preferences. However, the fact that you have to change modes (single or multi) from the window menu and change themes from the edit settings means that the locations for making changes differ depending on what you want to modify. It would be better if all these changes could be consolidated into one place, like a "screen layout" section, where you could make any adjustments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"GIMP the challenging image editor"
What do you like best about GIMP?

What I love most about the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) is its incredible combination of power and accessibility. As a completely free, open-source tool, it demolishes the idea that professional-grade software must come with a subscription fee.

For my image editing and creative projects, GIMP is more than sufficient. I particularly appreciate its robust support for layers, masks, and extensive third-party plugins (like G’MIC), which allow for sophisticated photo retouching and digital art creation. It works flawlessly on every operating system, offering a huge, customizable feature set without ever asking for a cent. It truly is the definitive alternative to proprietary graphic software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GIMP?

What I find most frustrating about the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) is its steep learning curve and lack of polish. While it's a completely free, open-source tool that saves money, the user interface often feels unintuitive and can be challenging for anyone transitioning from proprietary software.

For professional creative projects, GIMP sometimes falls short despite its robust core features like layers and masks. The absence of native CMYK color support makes it unsuitable for many serious print workflows, and features like non-destructive adjustments are less refined than in competitors. Although it offers a huge, customizable feature set, navigating it can be frustrating, often slowing down the workflow compared to proprietary graphic software. "GIMP: Powerful and Simple for Image Processing"
What do you like best about GIMP?

I like first and foremost the simplicity in using GIMP, the completeness of the tools, and the organization of the tools on the workspace. I appreciate the fact that, despite being software that doesn't have much to envy from the more renowned ones, it is still open source. Even for a self-taught beginner like me, it is possible to produce a sufficiently presentable work. Moreover, the initial setup of GIMP was very simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GIMP?

I would like to have a more immediate SAT, some guides in Italian that are easier to consult, and video tutorials in Italian. I use GIMP along with other tools because it does not have artificial intelligence. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about GIMP?

GIMP offers a user-friendly interface that is accessible even to beginners. Its open-source nature makes it an excellent choice for anyone looking for graphic design software. I also appreciate the ability to import brushes from other programs and use them in GIMP, which is one of the main reasons I continue to rely on it for my graphic design work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GIMP?

So far, I haven't found anything to dislike about GIMP, as it has proven to be a great platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
