## Desmos Reviews
  ### 1. The website is smooth and has many good features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ethan P. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2022

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

The many calculators and the graphing parts were very helpful. The way that some parts automatically fit what you are trying to write. Unlike its competitors, it does not have ads and can be accessed very easily.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

Not much that I don't like, everything works fine without problems. However, I kind of wish that there were brief explanations on how to use the tools provided, other than that I think it's good.

**Recommendations to others considering Desmos:**

Just get used to using the different calculators, then it will be very easy and very helpful.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Desmos is including Mathematical Curriculums such that I can get coursework with explanations that helps me be more productive than finding my own work and then doing it.

  ### 2. One of the best ways to teach math!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

Desmos is one of the best and most unique ways to support students as they learn math. The activity builder allows teachers to teach both synchronously and asynchronously and scaffold student learning through investigation. The ability to include graphs, tables, activities, and videos in the same activity truly supports student learning. Additionally, teachers can create custom self-checking activities that are both engaging for students and provide essentially unlimited practice on a given skill. Finally, teachers in the Desmos community are amazing at helping fellow community members and are always available and willing to share ideas and resources!

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

While this is not a true dislike, more intuitive computation layer would be helpful as teachers learn to build their own activities. However, Desmos provides training and support in computation layer, so it is fully supported. Further, the Desmos community is extremely helpful as well! Desmos is truly the best!

**Recommendations to others considering Desmos:**

When you first start using Desmos, I would recommend searching pre-built activities to use as a starting point--this will allow you to see the various options and ways to use and integrate Desmos into the curriculum.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Desmos can be used across disciplines (particularly the ability to customize card sorts), but it is particularly beneficial for teaching mathematics. Desmos allows students to investigate and explore complex mathematical concepts--it is a great tool for students to use to construct their own understanding and provides a platform where students can see and discuss mathematics.

  ### 3. Great Graphs; Terrible Teaching Tools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

Desmos is primarily a graphing calculator. Yes, it can be used as a platform for instruction, but it is intended as a free online graphing calculator, which is what it does best.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

Though it is listed as one, functionally, Desmos is not a good platform for instruction; it is nothing like Kahn Academy or Canvas. It is just a calculator. I would advise against using it as your classroom.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Desmos is capable of graphing many types of functions and nonfunctions very quickly and with a fair bit of customization. It makes it much easier to determine loci's properties and significant points.

  ### 4. Best tool for a learning purpose

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deva S. | Freelance WordPress Web Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

Desmos helps a lot in making the learning and understanding of complex concepts easier. The visualisation of the concepts is well done. If you are a maths teacher, this is such a powerful tool for you to teach the students.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

The ease of use is not there, for a new user it takes a time to get used to the tool which can be a downside from the perspective of a student. So the UX can me mde better.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for understanding how certain math concepts work and to visualize what's happening in the logic. This is of great help for me in my field of data analytics and machine learning.

  ### 5. I never realized Desmos would be so helpful for myself and my students!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

I used to be the old-fashioned type of person who only likes physical calculators. I felt that they helped me learn and understand more. That is until I began using Desmos for myself and my students. Not only does Desmos have a graphing calculator function, but there are many other types of math tools and resources that improve student learning and success. I used Desmos as a student and continue to do so as a substitute teacher. Students of all ages now use Desmos, so I have become very familiar with the application and administering it to students of all ages since I have been substitute teaching. The students even have the app downloaded on their computers/iPads. I have also downloaded the app to help with student learning as well as the times that I need to solve or assist with math problems. The part I like most about Desmos is that it is accessible and applicable for both students of all ages and teachers.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

Desmos is so easy to use! It is exceptionally user-friendly and my students enjoy using it. I do too! There is honestly nothing I dislike about Desmos or its services. It's great!

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Math!! Desmos is incredibly helpful in solving all types of math problems. For my students using both the app and online platform, Desmos helps them solve problems and even saves their work, which is really helpful! For myself, I am able to access a variety of classroom activities that benefit student learning.

  ### 6. Desmos for Teachers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jan W. | Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2022

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

Desmos is very user-friendly for students. Students are able to interact with Desmos more than a standard graphing calculator.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

The Desmos "Classroom" activities are difficult to construct.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to have students learning through discovery with Desmos activities.

  ### 7. Clean, Functional, Easy, with lots of hidden features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristen R. | Educator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

Desmos is the perfect tool for creating graphs of both simple and complicated formulas, and relaying data. Honestly, it's basic, but the best feature is the color coding scheme it uses to differentiate between different equations or data sets. I also enjoy that it is very simple to learn and use, that you can make an account and save projects, and that it can produce any mathematical equation (and let you quickly change and tweak the formulas).

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

The only feature I dislike is that it is cumbersome to give a name label to an equation directly on the graph. For a table of data, I believe this is easier.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Desmos is terrific for working "backwards" on a formula. For instance, in trying to find the equation of a parabola (or similar shape) that would fit on the St. Louis Arch, I was able to insert a jpeg image of the arch, create a basic parabolic function to overlay the picture, and then tweak the function until it fit the arch. Great for quick calculations!

  ### 8. Swamps is engaging

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aly B. | 2nd Grade Teacher, Education Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

It is a great way to organize lessons during hybrid teaching.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

It can be tricky for youngest learners to navigate. I wish it were more friendly for early elementary.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped solve how to instruct students both in person and remotely at the same time.

  ### 9. Universal Calculator Software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Spencer B. | Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

As an AVID tutor, the thing I found most helpful about Desmos is that anyone with a computer can use it. Instead of explaining how to do a function or formula on whichever calculator each individual student has or uses in class, I was able to use Desmos as the standardized calculator in my tutor groups.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

The only thing that I dislike about Desmos is that it can be slow to type symbols into the interface with a laptop.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main benefit of Desmos is its standardization. I can more effectively and quickly tutor students on whatever they need help on instead of spending time overcoming differences in calculators and technology.

  ### 10. Desmos as a quick and easy scientific calculator at your fingertips

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

The fact that i can used the graphing and calculating tool whenever needed, even with the online version is a pretty good adnatage. I used to depend on my physical calculator way back and now have shifted mostly to Desmos for most of my quick scientific calcs and plotting.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

Most of the part is satsfactory and this comment is more of an open area for improvement. The export tool allows to export the graphs, but the flexibility in editing the graph for a presentation-ready format could be much more useful and i hope its available in the future.

**Recommendations to others considering Desmos:**

The best application that I have found is a quick calculator and grapher in a single place. If you are into research you should definitely try it out on a regular basis and you would appreciate the experience.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

in scientifc research, you stumble upon a lot of equations and I have benefited from understanding the graph variation with parametric changes. its just a matter of adding the equation and sliders when compared to employing it in other complex software environments.

  ### 11. My Go-To Tool for Math Education

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Susan C. | Math Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2021

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

This is a FREE software that can be used to engage, explain, explore, demonstrate and works well in a distance learning environment. I use this to create graphs, equations, drawings and to demonstrate techniques and applications to students. Desmos is the best free calculator tool available anywhere (at any price). This calculator can be accessed on a desktop, laptop, tablet or phone. The applications are endless. The @desmos twitter account has a large, active following who regularly post tips and strategies. There is a weekly program (Thursday evenings) on YouTube live where you can find out all about the latest new features and how those can be implemented.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

It would be nice to have this software produce equations that could be embedded or used in other applications, but screenshots work almost as well, so that is more of a wish than a 'dislike'.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am engaging reluctant learners, creating quality lessons and assessments and the activity builder at Desmos.com provides quality, effective tools to engage kids in studying complex concepts with an inquiry approach. I am discovering alternative means of assessment, engagement and empowerment from the @desmos community on Twitter.

  ### 12. Graphing made easy

Desmos is an absolutely amazing tool to graph functions. They have a website that I use to teach graphing on the smart board to my high school students. They also have an app that I use myself on my phone as a graphing calculator.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

I really can not think of anything I dislike about Desmos.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am teaching graphing and showing various transformations on the projector using desmos. The color coding on the graph really helps students to compare graphs and see the transformations. They also have pre-made lessons on various mathematical concepts involving graphs that I use in my lessons.

  ### 13. Great Exploratory Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebecca S. | teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

I like the graphing calculator feature best. When introducing a new function family in my Algebra class, I use it to explore characteristics of the new function. Students can explore the function, and then we formalize their findings with notes and practice problems.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

There is not much I dislike. It has so many useful features.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Desmos, I am able to give my virtual students "hands-on" experiences and labs. My students enjoy manipulating functions and discovering rules, like those for transformations, on their own.

  ### 14. Desmos is Great!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sera T. | Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

I love the lesson activities that Desmos offers! You can either use ones that are ready-made or design your own!

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

Sometimes I dislike the feature in the activities that calculations are made automatically rather than the user (students in my case) doing the calculations on their own. However, at other times this feature is nice. I wish there was an option to allow or not allow automatic calculations.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Desmos was really helpful with distance learning during Covid.

  ### 15. Desmos-- a very convenient graph plotting program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

Desmos provides a very convenient and accurate online graph plotting calculator. My students and I have been using it and my students even used their graph in their thesis.

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

Until now, I don't see many disadvantages about desmos.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When my students are doing research with me, we will need to plot some graph to test or visualize the concept we are researching. In the past, I asked them using mathematica or matlab, which takes time and there is no online version. The benefit of desmos is online and students can use it very conveniently anywhere.

  ### 16. More than just a graphing calculator!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

Desmos Activities are awesome! They are engaging and get the students thinking. I also love how easy it is to use the graphing calculator as opposed to the physical TI calculators

**What do you like best about Desmos?**

It is very easy to use and student friendly. It helps support visual learners and I am able to show why an answer is correct or not by using the graphs to show it. I always use this when teaching systems of equations and kids get it!

**What do you dislike about Desmos?**

Sometimes, allowing kids to have access to this program too soon allows them time to cheat instead of learn. Some students who get frustrated will just use this to give them answers instead of using it to check their answers.

**What problems is Desmos solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Systems of equations, Graphing
