Unfortunately I had one instance where the backup was corrupted and could not be used, and now their service has completely stopped creating any backups for all sites and databases for over 10 days with no communication from them about the issue. We lost access and got terrible support, and then they stopped replying all together. BacupSheep has been a complete waste of time and money for us. The owner is completely unreliable and does not offer support, and they still have our data. We would, unfortunately, recommend you avoid this company. **What problems is BackupSheep solving and how is that benefiting you?** BackupSheep is not sovling anything for us at all, as we lost access to the account. And although the owner "tried" to help us a few times, it got all quite from them and they stopped replying. So now, we have no access to the service we paid for, and they have our data. ### 3. It took me about 15 minutes to setup 3 backups. I could't find 1 thing but got personal support right away who showed me where to find the feature. After that it has been a set and forget tool and each night I am happy to receive an email that my backup was a success again :) **What do you dislike about BackupSheep?** Nothing I can think off. They are still a small team and this means that sometimes it takes some hours to reply, but at least the replies are good and helpful, unlike some apps where you first have to get through 10 bots before you can talk to someone that can help. **What problems is BackupSheep solving and how is that benefiting you?** I wanted a backup tool next to our hosts backup - one that I could reach without needing the host, preferably without the need of 3rd party storage. Backupsheep is exactly this.... also since they started the app has greatly improved, adding more features and making things as easy as possible. ### 5. You can either create a backup manually or set a schedule. They offer a decent amount of storage on their own infrastructure as well, which is a huge surplus. **What do you dislike about BackupSheep?** To get all your backups configured correctly there is a learning curve, as the documentation is not always clear or even missing. The UI and documentation could be improved. Most suitable for people with some IT technical background. **What problems is BackupSheep solving and how is that benefiting you?** The extra storage allows for other backup copies at a different location than your own cloud storage. They offer a few storage points across the globe. Once all is set up as intended, you can schedule the backup(s) with the interval(s) you like. ### 9. They were decent for a while, but then their entire platform crashed in July for a week and all their sites went down. There was nothing I could do because I didn't have any recent backups, and neither did they. Doing backups by hand is laborious, so I tend to forget about them or put them off. So I was held hostage until Rootpal restored my sites. This motivated me to find a backup solution, and I remembered BackupSheep. I bought a tier-1 code and scheduled it for weekly backups of my database and all the files on my FTP. Wouldn't you know it, but Rootpal got hacked on August 18 and all of their servers were deleted. Every single site was destroyed. My sites are still not up, as of August 31! And most people who do have their site restored are furious about how old the backups are, from June and July. Months of work, email archives, you name it, all gone! Thankfully, I had my BackupSheep backups. I gave Rootpal more than a week to restore my site, and they've failed to communicate. As we speak I'm transferring my hosting to a VPS and importing the files and database. Should have done it sooner. Also should have done daily backups. Lesson learned. I'm just glad that I have the option to restore them somewhere else. Thanks, BackupSheep! **What do you dislike about BackupSheep?** The first time you set up a connection in BackupSheep it can be a bit tricky. I was also confused by the scheduling clock. But I wrote to their chat for support. It took a week for a reply, but when they did, they answered my question. They also added some handy scheduling buttons that make it easier for everyone on the site to schedule daily, weekly, and monthly backups. So the founder had a good response and is actively making their software better. I want them to add pCloud support. It's on their roadmap. **What problems is BackupSheep solving and how is that benefiting you?** BackupSheep saves my website and work from being lost when a server crashes. It allows me to have peace of mind that my work won't be lost forever. ### 10. I use updraft plus but I needed a second backup and backup sheep is exactly what I needed, ftp login lets me backup the whole account and store it on the cloud. Simple and good product. If you have Updraft plus, it allows you to backup your site off server, like google drive. It did save me as the whole server got wiped. But my backup was safe in GDrive. Dont expect it to be a full solution replacing Updraft, its complimentary, and extra step of guarantee that your backup wont be lost. **What do you dislike about BackupSheep?** Not a full solution. Needs Updraft but its fine as you can use the free tier of Updraft and it works perfectly **What problems is BackupSheep solving and how is that benefiting you?** If your WP server crahses your Updraft backups get lost as they are stored on site. WIth backupsheep I put the backups in GDrive so they are safe. ### 17. I do believe the backup program is a good one, but the reason I had purchased was because of the unique offering of this particular plan. Backups are agnostic of the application, be it WP or a custom application. **What do you dislike about BackupSheep?** I do not write reviews but I am so frustrated at this moment that I have to so that people are aware of what they are getting into. My backups are failing since the 2nd of August. Today, it's the 16th. They were working fine before that since the time I had set it up(months). There are no error messages(proof https://d.pr/i/1dQtMH), nothing in the log(proof https://d.pr/i/63IS48) The backups started failing since the time they moved to the EU region completely and deprecated multi-region support. I did contact support and they said things like the backups should be complete in 6 hours else they will fail. This is not true(proof https://d.pr/i/J2fiRm). A backup was completed even when it took more than 6 hours to complete. And that too after the backups started failing which is even weirder. The founder doesn't understand the importance of backups and why it is so crucial for them to work reliably. I am frustrated as I have clients to whom I have "promised" daily backups. I have whitelisted the IP and tried countless other things. Apart from failing at what it's supposed to do(backups), the founder told me months before that the feature of having backups of different websites(nodes) inside their folder would be launched very soon(a week or a few days, don't remember exactly). I have even stopped asking. The founder was very active in support when the AppSumo deal was ongoing. But it seems like he doesn't care much. The support takes forever to reply. The replies do not always help. At this stage, I am not sure what should I do. One thing I am sure about is that they do not care much about backup failures and what reliability means. **What problems is BackupSheep solving and how is that benefiting you?** Actually, they are creating problems for me at this stage as their service has stopped working and I have to urgently set up an alternative. **Official Response from Bilal Ahmed:** > Hi. Going from hundreds of users to thousands in a few weeks was a very challenging task for us. Since then we have spent a lot of time improving the quality of service than pushing new features. One of the important changes we have done is that our scheduling is managed by AWS. The overall quality of our infrastructure is a lot better and we have learned a lot of lessons with this growth. The live chat option is shown there but it's just an empty link with no redirect. No support is there. even my email gets unanswered. hate its service. it's not even renowned and with my first impression, I am scared that I provided ssh access to my servers. **Recommendations to others considering BackupSheep:** don't buy it, you won't be getting any support from them. We on-boarded ~1500 new users since the launch of our AppSumo deal(2 weeks), and as you know, we are a small team right now, so we did our best to keep up with answering questions on the AppSumo page(160+), live chat(587 sessions), support tickets(100+) and making enhancements to code. Some new accounts had issues setting up backups, and nodes were not working as expected. We investigated this issue and fixed it a few days ago. The live chat button works, but I think it doesn't work when we are offline. I'm going to update it immediately. Anyway, I take full responsibility for this unfortunate experience. Since our site is a WordPress site, the MySQL Database option in BackupSheep is very helpful. We also enjoy how BackupSheep gives $10 for each referral, without any limit! This helps our business make a side-profit. We like how BackupSheep has Backup Log, Backup Scheduling, and Compression features. **What do you dislike about BackupSheep?** I dislike how BackupSheep does not have continuous backup. It also does not have certain fundamental features *on its own*, such as continuous backup, encryption, incremental backup, local server options, multiple system support, remote server options, secure data storage, and web access / restoration. It uses Amazon S3, and BackupSheep also has a complicated IP process for calls and other features. **Recommendations to others considering BackupSheep:** Make sure that you know what BackupSheep is capable of, and what it is not capable of. Although BackupSheep has many options, it does not have vital features such as incremental backups and multiple system support options. **What problems is BackupSheep solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm solving the business problems of creating site backups, among commercial backups, image backups, and inventory backups from our website to our Amazon S3 servers. We have realized that all WordPress websites need a MySQL Database backup, and not *just* a filesystem backup, which is why we now use BackupSheet to help us with this process. ### 23.
